Somehow, in my 132k story, I feel like I don’t have enough detail.
I have never, ever, experienced this before IN MY LIFE. I’ve been writing for so long for fun and I’ve never written like this.
New genre. New fandom. New pairing. New POV. New everything. And it JUST. KEEPS. GOING.
HOLY HELL MAN.

@captainjimothycarter asked: How dark is dark? 👀
Well, friend, here is the current story summary and warnings…. This is the FIRST time I’ve EVER used the “Dead Dove: Do Not Eat” warning on a fic.
Story Summary: Jackson is less idyllic than it seems, as is everything post-infection. He doesn't want to see you tossed out, and can’t take the way you flinch when the men come sniffing around, so he does the only thing he and Ellie can think of to keep you around.
Dark fic in a less than idyllic Jackson. Themes concern medical assault, SA, infant and pregnancy loss, and medical experimentation as well as PTSD. The majority of these situations are not portrayed in the story, only recounted by the “reader” character. Chapters will have sufficient warnings. Still some fluff to be had. Protective!Joel, Soft!Joel. Fem!Reader, little to no description otherwise. No use of Y/N. No/slight age difference. Hurt/Comfort (Reader gets a whomping, Joel is there…)
Dead Dove: Do Not Eat.
Story A/N: Born out of the forced marriage/fake marriage trope and musings on what a post apocalypse world might actually look like.
So, yeah. It’s fucking dark.
My JoelxReader TLOU story is now 115K, 75% of it takes place over about 4 months, and the entire story is supposed to span a YEAR.
It’ll get posted. I just need to decide when I’m going to start that… when I have a good enough head start or once the whole thing is finished.
This story might kill me, but I love it.
God, I hope other people love it, too.

It’s offically officially 124.5K. it’s now the LONGEST SINGLE FIC I’ve ever written.
And it’s still not even close to being done.
Next milestone to beat is 131K.
I’m still ALL OVER THE PLACE in this story so I’m SOOOO hesitant to post.
But I’m also really fucking proud of it. Even if it is dark as fuck.

Trigger warnings: weight loss and body image.
I’ve created a side blog to talk about my health journey. It’s been going on for a while now, but while I’ve been able to change a lot over the last year with diet and exercise, my weight and my A1C are not going anywhere.
My doctor’s put me on a GLP-1. I have many feeling about it.
DM me if you want to follow along, I’ll share the name of my other blog with you.

thinking about that post of people assuming ao3 has an algorithm and also about how bonkers persistent the view is that ao3 is social media lite. like with startling regularity I get comments saying something along the lines of "it's probably weird to comment on a fic this old--" no it isn't!!!! this is an archive I am literally just assuming you searched for a selection of specific tags or sorted by kudos or looked back on my pseud or any other number of completely normal ways to use an archive site ?? kill the tiktok ghost in your brain and comment on old stuff it's NOT weird

It’s now 120K and I started writing it July 31 (ONLY 6 MONTHS). It’s 4k away from my longest fic (that took me 6 years to write) and 11K from my longest series. (Both of which are Innocence and Beauty in the GSR Fandom).
I’m pretty sure I have a title: Tender Payment for Our Sins.
I’m soooo tempted to post some, but I keep bouncing all over the story as I change things…
Dipping my toe in a new fandom always makes me nervous…

You ever re-read a story you’re writing and get mad there aren’t new scenes magically written?
You ever get mad there isn’t a plot twist you weren’t prepared for?
Yeah. me neither.
Never.

I noticed that an amazing fic I read with over 60k words and over 900 kudos...didn't receive a single comment in 2022.
There were some comments in 2021, then a gap, then a few comments from this year. That is insane.
Ao3 is not built like Wattpad, it is not meant to be treated like the 'latest hits' page where you only read the new works, or where you only click on sort by number of kudos. It doesn't matter if the fic you like is not wip anymore - if you really like the story, comment. A simple heart will do. The author won't think you're annoying, in fact they'll probably be incredibly happy.
Fic authors don't deserve to have their work just disappear with no engament after few weeks pass. The fics don't deserve it either

kudos and hits do not indicate the quality of the fic, by the way.
I’ve read so many fics, that aren’t as popular, that are so professionally written that I immediately know the authors even know the characters better than their original creators, respectfully. and so many of those fics made me cry and I’ve always come back to reread them because they’re that good, even if they don’t reach many people. they’re literally in my heart and I even think about them during the day because they’re that special to me.
the bottom line: the number of kudos and hits do not represent whether the work is good or bad.
and if you’re an author, don’t let it discourage you if you think your works don’t get enough hits or kudos.
sometimes the best fics that have ever been written are like a rare treasure, not many people will find them, but I promise you, those who do will cherish them very dearly ♡

my dream as a fanfic writer is to write a story which people want to talk to me about and send asks about afterwards and discuss things the characters did and the symbolism and meanings behind certain lines and I'll be all "hehe thanks" but irl I'll be in literal tears because I wrote something that means something to someone

DONT BE AFRAID TO COMMENT ON OLD FICS DONT BE AFRAID TO COMMENT ON FICS IN A FANDOM THE AUTHOR MAY NO LONGER BE ACTIVE IN. IF THE STORY IS STILL UP LET THEM KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS IT MIGHT JUST BE THE REMINDER THAT MAKES THEIR DAY.
SINCERELY SOMEONE WHO JUST GOT A REPLY THAT MADE ME WANNA MAKE THIS POST
