My style varies slightly each time I draw Johann, but I think I've still managed to stay true to his character... Johann looks sad here. Lost? Confused?? I read fanfic which explores his thoughts when he wakes up after the coma..

What are the chances that johan was vegeterian?
There is no reason for him to refuse to eat meat. If you allude to Hitler and that fact various people say he followed a vegetarian diet because a) he harboured affection towards animals, and b) he believed in Richard Wagner’s historical theories – none of these things fits Johan.

“There’s nothing special about being born. Not a thing. Most of the universe is just death, nothing more. In this universe of ours, the birth of a new life on some corner of our planet is nothing but a tiny, insignificant flash. Death is a normal thing.”
If a human life is insignificant, what’s so different about that of an animal?
At the same time, there is another question one should ask himself – does Johan ever eat? Of course, he does; still it is never shown except one episode where the twins burn down the Three Frogs and run away, directionless with no destination in mind. Sometime later, they meet a middle-aged couple who give them sandwiches and contemplate taking them into their care. While playing in a field of grass in front of the couple, Johan tells Anna that he has a plan. We know what happens next.
Every time we see him sitting at a cafe or visiting his acquaintances as an adult, he only drinks. Moreover, he seems reluctant to do it.

@erichspringer that post is getting too long and ugly so i’ll start a new one
you said johan wanted to “die as a monster”. why? you’re telling me he actively wanted to be a monster and be forever known as such? that makes no sense and seems like an oddly childish goal for johan. i urge you to understand that what may seem like an excuse to you is a very much valid reason to other people. tenma wasnt getting ice cream or anything trivial, he was killing a young man he saved himself, as a person with very strong morals. in order to shoot him he needed full concentration and both in the library and in ruhenheim he was on the verge of pulling the trigger. THAT until someone came along and ruined his moment. so no, its not “just excuses”.

Door, 11 Rue Larrey (1927), the door in the studio on Rue Larrey in Paris, where Marcel Duchamp lived from 1927 to 1942. Since his studio was too narrow, the artist created a corner door which served two doorways (between the studio and the bedroom, and the studio and the bathroom). The door could be both open and closed at the same time, thus providing Duchamp with a household paradox as well as a practical space-saving device.
