Took advantage of the lovely day yesterday by driving out around Avondale, Harbour Main, Brigus, Chapels Cove, and Colliers - despite an insufferable hangover. 

We didn't really know where we were going, but once I saw the sign for Colliers I had wanted to stop in to the Oasis. I had been here previously on a round the bay pub crawl we did one night. Asked a few fellows where to get a bowl of pea soup, and they lead us down the road to Rumours Lounge for the best bowl of pea soup I've ever had. Johnny even picked up the tab for us.

Continued our drive and stumbled onto a farm in Chapel's Cove. Snuck a few pictures of this giant llama. Noticed a sign that mentioned knitted goods so we invited ourselves in. The woman inside was pulling apart some freshly dyed sheeps wool. She spun her own wool, knit her own products, and told us all about the family farm which has been there  for more than 200 years. She also makes her own jam! We were lucky enough to have a few extra dollars so myself and Rebecca split a jar of Arguta jam. (Arguta is a smaller version of a kiwi, about the size of a grape.) Everything in her shop was made right on the farm. Even the arguta was home grown. Definitely worth checking out if you happen to find yourself in the area.

We had planned to go to a rug hooking studio in Whitbourne, but decided it would be better to wait for another day. We did get to stop in and snap a few pictures at the old train station in Avondale on the way back to the highway.

Perfect Sunday on Bell Island.

Stopped in to the Royal Canadian Legion. Beer, VLTs, Firstimer ribbons and got to chat with a few of the veterans who showed us the legion room.

This picture sums it up. Beer bought with the money we won on the VLT, the ribbons and this lovely gentleman who told us all about the men in the photos that covered the walls. (we even found his picture!)
