"There was a scandal about half a block of cheese that belonged to Dead and from which I, simply starving, ate a slice of, because unfortunately for me, our shared fridge was in my room.
A few days later, Euro and the boys come to my room in the evening to say that we are going to Sweden because there is a party with one of the Swedish bands.
We drove about 20 km beyond the Swedish border and the car stopped.
They tell me to get off, Euro announces that this is a court of law against me, that I turned out to be a dick and that they are leaving me here as a punishment. You know, in the middle of the night, somewhere in the middle of nowhere, in a foreign country. I was completely shocked by these people's behaviour. - Marcin W., interview published in "Najświętszy Napletek Chrystusa" zine #6, 2008 🦇

-I met Euronymous and Dead at an Anthrax concert in Oslo in 1989, when Øystein was selling his records at the entrance.
Were they how you imagined them to be?
-They looked exactly as I expected. Dead was almost as tall as me, only very, very thin. He had long hair and many symbols and band logos on his jacket. They behaved as I expected, they didn’t talk much, mostly about business, about records, but in general they were nice.
You were at the Mayhem concert in 1990, one of their rare public appearances?
- Yes, this was their first official concert. Dead cut himself very badly. Naturally, on purpose. He broke the bottle and cut himself, leaving a deep scar. He was supposed to go to the hospital, but it was too late to get stitches. I remember that after the concert he was very ill and in pain from heavy blood loss. - Lords of Chaos: The Bloody Rise of the Satanic Metal Underground 🦇
"Dead couldn't drink hard liquor. I don't think he was used to drinking anything but low-alcohol Swedish Folkel, the kids' drink"
"Whenever he tried something stronger, he was like a typical first-time drinker"
"That night [1989] he became stupid and out of control..... he knocked over a big table full of beer bottles in the living room and tried to break the big window overlooking the garden."
"Many of these (thrash and death) bands changed into worshipping death (although many had already here become false and had such lyrics only for “fun” (spit!)), before they rather quickly changed into life metal. If one calls every shitty band which “growls” and use much distortion on the guitar for death metal, your definition will be right, but I do NOT call them death metal. They suck, I hate them. Even CHRISTIAN bands are calling themselves death metal now! There are a couple here in Norway and we are going to make some action towards them soon. The corpse of hardcore is indeed rotting, but the spirit is still tormenting us.
The scene of the bands like Therion, Benediction etc has nothing to do with ours. It’s as different as the scene of Anthrax/Suicidal fans or even Madonna fans.
Just LOOK at the idiots who listen to it. Children with jogging suits all the way! I SPIT on them! OUR scene consists of dark, grim people who honour the ways and the looks of the ancient scene with black clothes and all the other gear which the HC people hate.” - Euronymous, letter undated, probably mid 1992 as it was sent with a flyer advertising Burz*m’s self titled album 🕯️
"She [girlfriend] is controlling everything he [Necro] does, and now she is trying to control us too. Soon he is going on holiday with her and we had to cancel a tour in Sweden because of that. We almost don't see him anymore because he is always with her. He doesn't spend any money on band at all, and me and Dead have to pay for everything - stamps etc, which is a lot of fucking money. This is because he spends everything on her. The band is not important to him at all anymore." - Excerpt of Øystein's letter to Jim Mutilator, mid 1990 🦇
Letter taken from @arcanearchivist FB page
(I think this letter shows nicely just how insignificant the band was to Jørn back then. Nearly a year before Pelle's death and before his girlfriend's pregnancy he was already on his way out (fact also confirmed by Metalion in Slayer mag book). He never bothered to organise anything, never bothered to answer letters, never bothered to do zine interviews, help Øystein, and as we can see from this, has even left Øystein and Pelle to pay for everything, and cancelled gigs too. Hellhammer wasn't any better. There is a certain narrative that only Pelle was taking the band seriously and everyone else didn't care in 1991, which I always found a bit ridiculous because anyone who knows anything about Øystein knows he was the main engine of the band, and this letter, along with handful of others, proves that Pelle AND Øystein were the ones who kept the band going)
