I don't have any Halloween albums from 1967 and decided to go for Boogaloo instead - just because it's great dance music. A short lived boom from 66-69 (roughly) mixing latin with r&b and soul that even got the former surf band The Lively Ones off their boards to shake their hips dancing on the street. Les McCann couldn't resist neither and recorded his "Bucket O'Grease" including a great boogalized version of "Bang Bang". The rest is the real deal from genre finding labels like Fania, Cotique and others. Happy Halloween and shake them bones! #vinyl #recordcollector #recordcollection #vinyljunkie #1967 #boogaloo #lesmccann #thelivelyones #peteterrace #earlcoleman #elgrancombo #johnnycolon #thelebronbrothers #johhnyzamot #larryharlow

A nice audio journey to the middle east by Herbie Mann from 1967. The perfect album to escape the rainy Fall in Germany. Featuring many middle eastern guest musicians on percussion and Oud. And also Roy Ayers on vibes and Attila Zoller on guitar. #vinyl #recordcollector #recordcollection #vinyljunkie #1967 #herbiemann #royayers #attilazoller

The curse of the one-hit-wonder. Belfast born singer-songwriter David McWilliams had much more to offer than his 1967 hit "Days Of Pearly Spencer" from this second album. BBC refused to play it because David's manager was involved in pirate radio but it became a huge single hit everywhere else in Europe. Unfortunately people weren't interested in the rest of his superb work and David ended up playing local pubs in his home country. Marc Almond covered the song in 1992 and finally it went high in the UK charts. But it still reduced him to that one song. David died 10 years later in 2002 at the age of 56. Check out "Redundancy Blues" from his debut album (also from 67) and you will understand that he's highly underrated. #vinyl #recordcollector #recordcollection #vinyljunkie #1967 #davidmcwilliams

Older repost to celebrate the 50th anniversary release date of "Forever Changes". In my opinion we can change Nov. 1st to "Forever Changes Day". "All Saints Day" is kind of silly. There are no saints - just sinners who try to sin less. But one thing is for sure: forever changes! #vinyl #recordcollector #recordcollection #vinyljunkie #1967 #love #arthurlee #foreverchanges

Something non-1967 related: I was always looking to find this 1969 Little Walter compilation on Chess Records since I saw Keith Richards in the "Under The Influence" docu putting it on his turntable and play "Blue and Lonesome". It's really the essence of blues! Originally recorded in 1959. Keith got taste. Little Walter the blues. And I'm just happy that I found an album at a record store and didn't have to buy it on Discogs - which is just not the same. Or to quote songs from the record: "I got to find my Baby". And yes, "I had my Fun" ;-) Cheers! #vinyl #recordcollector #recordcollection #vinyljunkie #littlewalter #chessrecords #keithrichards #blues

The Netherlands in 1967. Good weed and dope music. This one goes out to my Dutch friend and journalist Robert Haagsma who has an amazing record collection and is currently working on the second edition of his book @passionforvinyl. Check out the first book if you don't have it! It's exactly what the title promises: Passion for Vinyl! #vinyl #recordcollector #recordcollection #vinyljunkie #1967 #motions #goldenearing #robhoeke #wallytax #boudewijndegroot #lesbaroques #cubyandtheblizzards #demaskers #outsiders #jbeusson #rodys #thesubterraneans #passionforvinyl

A soul Sunday with James Brown from 1967. Raw Soul! Bought this one earlier this year in LA. Good memories of a sunny afternoon on a farmers market next to the recordshop. #vinyl #recordcollector #recordcollection #vinyljunkie #1967 #jamesbrown #soul

OK, here's the last one of the white covers from 1967. Highlight: the Swedish "Popligan" charity compilation for refugees that I got from a Swedish collector friend. It's neither rare nor expensive or musically exciting but it's a great historic document of musicians collecting money for people who need our help. And unfortunately it's still today a relevant topic. And there is the Young Rascals album which is underrated as bubblegum pop. But it's actually really good and the fantastic track "It's Love" features the jazz flutist Hubert Laws. Check it out if you can. #vinyl #recordcollector #recordcollection #vinyljunkie #themonkees #thepaupers #themesmerizingeye #blossomtoes #thecandymen #theesquires #theyoungrascals #hubertlaws #1967 #beatclub

Had quick stop at my favourite local @black_plastic_records in Dortmund, Germany. Found nothing for my 1967 collection but was super happy to find the amazing Bennie Maupin on ECM from 1974 feat. Herbie Hancock (it's a 1977 repress but anyway), Nina Simone from 1971, Dexter Gordon on Blue Note from 1966 feat. Bobby Hutcherson (my favourite vibraphone player!) and the Gary Burton Quartet from 1968 (another great man on the vibes). Going to be jazzy evening! PS: even if this blog is mainly about 1967, please keep in mind that it doesn't matter when, where and how an album was released. It's all about the music ;-) #vinyl #recordcollector #recordcollection #vinyljunkie #ninasimone #garyburton #benniemaupin #herbiehancock #ecm #ecomrecords #dextergordon #bobbyhutcherson #bluenoterecords #bluenote (hier: Black Plastic in Concert)

More white covers from 1967 (yes, even more to follow ;-). The innocence of experimental sounds from folk to electronica. Very proud about the rare Austrian Jack's Angels that I found a year ago at a record store in Madrid and the rather obscure black folk singer Len Chandler who sounds a bit like Richie Havens. The Electronic Music III is as far out as the Ammmusic which influenced Pink Floyd. Just the partly orchestrated Eric Burdon wasn't really a creative high point. Lucky enough Eric went on to explore new ground with War. The rest is great anyway. #vinyl #recordcollector #recordcollection #vinyljunkie #bertjansch #lucianoberio #cathyberberian #ilhanmimaroglu #ammmusic #ericburdon #thevelvetunderground #velvetunderground #andywarhol #jacksangels #lenchandler #johnmartyn #captainbeefheart #1967

More white covers from 1967. The jazz edition. Including one of my favourite 67 albums "Riedaiglia" by the Swedish bass player Georg Riedel feat. the young Jan Garbarek. Also interesting: the German/Swizz "From Sticksland With Love - Drums And Folklore" by George Gruntz with Mani Neumeier of later Guru Guru krautrock fame. Rob Franken is a Dutch souljazz organist. The rest are well known Americans. The 3 Blue Note albums are the last few records that Reid Miles designed before the label got sold and changed the iconic look of the label. And I would love to find out which records Roland Kirk had in his shelf. I see ar least 4 Impulse albums on the cover. The lady on the cover seemed to be more interested in Roland Kirk. #vinyl #recordcollector #recordcollection #vinyljunkie #1967 #jazz #georgriedel #jangarbarek #georgegruntz #manineumeier #mpsrecords #ramseylewis #wesmontgomery #robfranken

Continuing the "white cover" series with 9 soundtracks from 1967. Hurry Sundown and Cool Hand Luke win with the best artwork. The Thunder Alley got some cool garage fuzz produced by Mike Curb who also worked on some killer biker movie soundtracks with Davie Allen And The Arrows and became the 42nd Lieutenant Governor of California in 1979. Still haven't seen the movie. Have a nice Saturday at the cinema, club or just at home with your turntable. #vinyl #recordcollector #recordcollection #vinyljunkie #1967 #soundtrack #ost #devol #trinilopez #yulbrynner #hugomontenegro #thelovinspoonful #laloschifrin #paulnewman #henrymancini #petergunn #quincyjones #mikecurb

In a white room 1967. The rabbit is missing. A Pot Of Flowers is worth mentioning because there weren't many compilations with garage punk / psych bands in 1967. At least not compared to the Nuggets, Pebbles, etc. years when thousands of obscure bands were rediscovered. Back in 1967 nobody called it garage punk. It was only rock'n'roll and I like it. Roy Ayers and Bruno Carr also play on the Herbie Mann album. And Herbie also produced the Roy Ayers album. The American jazz scene knew each other. Both albums came out on Atlantic and even share the same illustrator, Dick Luppi. The Modern Jazz Quartet is the only album in this picture that was recorded in 67 but came out in 68 on the Beatles' Apple Records. And they've been the only jazz band on Apple. And a very good one! The Jim Kweskin Jug Band looks better than it sounds - don't buy it if you expect a psychedelic rock album. It's a silly jug band. The Monkees is German cover. The rest you probably know and love ;-) #vinyl #recordcollector #recordcollection #vinyljunkie #1967 #bar-kays #themonkees #royayers #love #arthurlee #herbiemann #dickluppi #themodernjazzquartet #thejimkweskinjugband #janisjoplin #bigbrotherandtheholdingcompany

Them in 1967 is a confusing story that was anyway leading to 3 great albums. The story started in 1964 in Belfast, Northern Ireland where they wrote history with the immortal "Gloria" and more great songs that influenced thousands of American garage punk bands. The classic line-up broke up in 1966. Part of the band returned to Belfast to record an album that only came out in Sweden in 1967 when they also already broke up. Van Morrison also toured under the name Them in the Netherlands with the Dutch band Cuby + Blizzards (great band by the way) and then released his first solo album with the hit single "Brown Eyed Girl" - that he actually hated. He was happier with the following "Astral Weeks". Another part of the band went back to the US where the extensive touring killed the earlier line-up with Van and recorded "Now - and Them" in late 1967 (released in early 1968). It was followed by the equally good and obscure garage/psych album "Time Out! Time In For Them". Van Morrison survived with a long running career and is still performing at the age of 72! #vinyl #recordcollector #recordcollection #vinyljunkie #1967 #them #vanmorrison

Last 7 days haul. Today I found at the local Dortmund record fair two more for my 1967 collection: Joe Harriot & John Mayer "Indo-Jazz Fusions" and the "Now - And Them" that Them recorded without Van Morrison. And some more good stuff! The Olatunji featers Yusef Lateef, Ray Barreto and more. Biggest suprise: The Latin Dimension from 1968 with some killer Latin, Soul, R&B grooves to dance the autumn leaves away. Life treats me well. #vinyl #recordcollector #recordcollection #vinyljunkie #1967 #joeharriot #johnmayer #them #davepike #thedavepikeset #robinkenyatta #robertaflack #archieshepp #freeorbit #udolindenberg #peterherbolzheimer #thelatindimension #olatunji #yuseflateef #raybarretto #mpsrecords #bygrecords #bygactuel

The Rolling Stones in 1967. Two albums and one compilation. Not bad. I don't think they are playing any song from this experimental and psychedelic phase on their current tour. But as much as I like these albums, I also prefer the earlier years and the following 5 albums. Was one of you at any shows? Even back then? #vinyl #recordcollector #recordcollection #vinyljunkie #therollingstones #rollingstones #1967

Don't want to start a discussion about sexism or feminism but Hugh Hefner is dead and of course the Playboy played a role in my teenage years. I was probably more influenced by MAD comics and felt closer to Alfred E. Neuman than to Hugh Hefner but that's a different story. Here's my tribute to Hugh: Verve Records in Germany put together this compilation Strictly For Playboys to present their 1967 releases from Herbie Hancock, Willie Bobo, Cal Tjader, Wes Montgomery, Jimmy Smith and more. A nice jazzy soul & latin mix for playboys and playgirls - no matter what, just play. #vinyl #recordcollection #vinyljunkie #recordcollector #jazz #hughhefner #playboy #herbiehancock #williebobo #caltjader #wesmontgomery #jimmysmith #ververecords #1967
