How to Create a Self-Study Schedule
Tumblr media
If you’re studying any foreign language on your own (or without a course) you’re going to need to be extra organized. Your language study is in your own hands and so is how much you learn. There is no one holding you accountable or motivated either. So it’s entirely up to you to make sure you’re organized and planning enough material that your learning at a comfortable pace. There are roughly two ways to learn languages on your own. There are roughly two ways to go about planning your language study: intensively or casually. Here are my tips for intensive studying and I’ll post about casual studying soon:

i’m juggling my time and workload between a fulltime job and online classes. thanks to a 14-hour time difference, i’m able to do both, but it’s also never been as stressful.

okay, so here in california precautionary measures against COVID-19 have become increasingly intense. most schools have closed and are preparing to make the transition to “distance learning” aka online classes. this is a big change for many of us – but don’t panic!
welcome to surviving online classes 101!
✐ self discipline
this is more of a warning than a tip. working from home means you will have to exercise a lot more self discipline. it can be a little bit boring or lonely at times. you cannot count on motivation from others (professors, classmates, friends, etc.), so you will have to learn some self discipline.
✐ create your own classroom
a good way to make the transition is to try and mimic the classroom setting as closely as possible. something that might be helpful is to set up a space designated for work. try to avoid the temptation to work in your bed or on the couch. that trains your brain to be alert in those places and makes it harder to relax/fall asleep. at least during online lectures, try and eliminate distractions that wouldn’t be present in a regular classroom (like tv or netflix playing in the background, or having your phone out)
✐ dress for success!
dress in the way that makes you feel most productive. if you’re one of those people who usually rolls into class wearing sweats and still kills it, good for you! if you’re one of those people who needs to put on a full face of makeup to feel alive and ready for the day, do that! even at home!! i personally never wear makeup but if i try to be productive in pjs… disaster. i’ve also found that cute workout gear makes me feel badass while still being comfy.
✐ create a schedule
now more than ever you need to figure out how to manage your time. you can use a planner, bujo, google calendar, the forest app, whatever. just make sure you keep track of things like
due dates and TIMES
exam dates
lecture times
hours spent studying
meals (pls eat 3 if possible)
water intake
sleep schedule
✐ pack your bag like you usually would
i know this probably sounds so dumb, but when you’re done working clean up after yourself. pack everything up like you would at school, to sort of signal to your brain that academic time is over for now. and then unpack and set up when you’re ready to get to work again. this is just another way to trick your brain into that school mindset while you’re stuck at home.
✐ don’t overwork yourself
break up your studying into chunks. being cooped up all day can make us feel like we’re wasting time, but be sure to schedule breaks and reward yourself after a solid study session. i’m a big fan of the pomodoro method, and it can be customized really easily to allow for more or less study/rest time.
✐ maintain a healthy sleep schedule
now is the time to develop that healthy sleep schedule we all dream about. staring at a computer all day is exhausting and hard on the eyes and brain, so make sure to give them enough rest and time to recover each night. also, consider investing in glasses that block blue light, even if you don’t usually use glasses. this will keep our eyes young lol.
✐ communicate with your teachers and classmates
most of us are making this transition to online learning together. any time you have questions, email your professor. reach out to your classmates at the beginning and exchange emails/phone numbers/social media so you can build a support system. if something goes wrong, screenshot it immediately and reach out to your professor. technology isn’t perfect, and mistakes can happen, just communicate them.
✐ turn things in early
this is my biggest tip. when you are relying on online submissions for assignments and digital lectures, you always want to allow extra time to fix any errors you might encounter. your professor will also be much more willing to help you fix a problem two days before a deadline rather than two minutes before a deadline. eliminate that uncertainty by playing it safe with online submissions.
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!! YOU GOT THIS!! WE GOT THIS!!

‘eat the frog' method
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hi all, it’s werelivingarts. I just stumbled across this method called ‘eat the frog’, which means you get the most difficult or important task out of your way first. I actually have been using this method for a long time, hope this post gives you a new way of managing your time and productivity! 😜 ❤️
“If it’s your job to eat a frog, it’s best to do it first thing in the morning. And if it’s your job to eat two frogs, it’s best to eat the biggest one first.” – Mark Twain

“Always start your day off on a good note. Put both feet on the floor, and tell yourself you’re ready for the day. Breathe. Remember that this day cannot be relived, and so you will live every second to its very best.”

“Give yourself a break. You don’t have to be productive every day to feel like you are enough. Make some time for afternoon naps, cloud watching and sunlight. Recall every compliment you’ve received lately and believe them. Be aware of moments when you can get out of your way to be kind to someone and realize that you’re capable of change. Take it to heart how life can be so simple and so idle and still be filled with much peace and much love. Remember, every now and then to be gentle with yourself and take some time to go outside and breathe in the beauty of calmly evolving. Your progress won’t be ruined if you take some time to be realigned with yourself. Take all the time you need.”

Bullet Journal for language learners and students
Finally, after months of many tries, I figured out the best method for me to incorporate some useful spread for language learners and students.
Let’s see how I structure an entire month into my bullet journal
Cover: for each month I create a cover that is going to represent the main theme I chose
- disclaimer: the majority of the photos are from my May spreads and theme was “peachy colors”
Monthly log: a classic monthly log structured as a calendar and I added a little goals list in which I write what I want to accomplish during those 30/31 days
Tumblr media
Study Tracker: a monthly tracker in which I write how many hours I studied during that day and I use different colors based on a color coding for the different languages and subjects I study (photo from June’s theme)
Tumblr media
Blog, podcasts, Tumblr blogs, and masterposts log: a list of useful and interesting websites, podcasts, Tumblr blogs and masterposts in which I write the name, the category and languages discussed
Tumblr media
Resources log: for each language, I write in the title, what is that resource is about (ex.: grammar, vocab, textbook…) and I rate them after using it for a while
Tumblr media
Semester tracker: it is mainly based on my university semester (which is not a full semester idkwhy, but 4 months). This big calendar groups 4 months together and each month has its reference color and in the boxes, I write in exams, deadlines, appointments and stuff like that
Tumblr media
Daily logs: this is how my daily logs look like! I created an excel sheet that resembles the 10 minutes method of Korean/Japanese study planners for each day of the month, on one side I write a to-do list for the day, and last but not least I decorate it with different tools such as brush pens, stamps, and washi tapes
Tumblr media
Guys this is it! For next month I will use a new bullet journal because this lovely Leucchturm1917 is almost over. So maybe I’ll do an update if something is gonna change!

basic korean particles ✨
Tumblr media
there are a lot of particles used in korean and it can be a little overwhelming, especially for beginners, so i decided to put together a review sheet of sorts for all the essential particles you’ll need to know for some basic conversation!
~는/은/이/기: subject marker
는/은 is used to highlight the main subject doing the main action of a sentence. they’re also used to compare and state facts. in comparison, 이/가 are also used to highlight subjects, but they’re not the main subject. ex:
사과는 빨간색이에요. 바나나는 노란색이에요. apples are red. bananas are yellow. here, you’re stating facts, and the fruits are also doing the “main action” of being a colour so 는 is used.
저는 네가 말했던 걸 명심했어요.  i kept in mind the things you said. in this sentence, you are the main subject doing the main action of remembering the things the other person said, therefore 는 is used.
제가 좋아하는 사람은 엄청 똑똑해요. the person i like is really smart. in this sentence, you like someone but the main subject is the person you like, not you. they’re doing the main action of being smart.
~를/을: object marker
used to highlight objects you are acting on in a sentence. ex:
저는 피자를 먹었어요. i ate pizza.
새 가방을 샀어요. i bought a new bag.
~에: location marker
used to indicate that you’re going/went to somewhere.
친구의 집에 갈 거예요. i’m going to my friend’s house.
학교에 안 갈래요. i don’t want to go to school/i’m not going to school.
~에서: indicates something is done in a location
ex:
저는 도서관에서 공부했어요. i studied in the library.
저는 영국에서 살아요. i live in england.
~한테/에게: “to”
used when something is done or given to a person. ex:
저는 친구한테 선물을 줬어요. i gave a present to my friend.
저는 동생에게 한국어를 가르쳤어요. i taught korean to my sibling.
엄마한테 기쁜 소식을 알려줬어요 i told my mum the good news.
~한테서/에게서: “from”
used to indicate that something is received from someone. ex:
저는 친구에게서 편지를 받았어요. i received a letter from my friend.
~부터/까지: “to/from a time/place”
~부터 is used to mean “from _”, ~까지 is used to mean “to_” ex:
친구들이랑 아침부터 밤까지 얘기했어요. i talked with my friends from the morning to the night.
학교부터 집까지 걸면 10분 쯤 걸려요. if you walk from school to my home, it takes around 10 minutes.
머리부터 발끝까지 아름다워요. you’re beautiful from head to toe.
~만: “only”
used to mean only (noun). ex:
저는 아이돌 그룹들 중에 엑소만 좋아요. out of all the idol groups, i only like exo.
초밥만 먹고 싶어요. i only want to eat sushi.
~ㄹ/을 때: used to indicate a certain period of time or moment
ex:
저는 어렸을 때 정말 귀여웠어요. i was really cute when i was young.
공부할 때 집중하면 돼요. you should focus when you study.
심심할 때 뭐해요? what do you do when you’re bored?
