i’ve got the ebook open in another window while the last episode has been going and it’s truly striking how easily this could have been very very good and how fullheartedly they’ve decided to make it unbelievably bad. i’m honestly flabbergasted. the additions are so bad. the dialogue changes are so bad. all you had to do was take the dialogue straight from the book. “but maybe that was too long,” NOPE, it couldn’t’ve been, because they added in SO MUCH EXTRA, UNNECESSARY, POORLY-WRITTEN DROSS that if they’d just stuck to the book it’d certainly fit. 

and be, like... good. 

the only writers credited on this are gaiman and pratchett and i’m just guessing here but i don’t think pratchett contributed beyond the book (RIP terry, i miss you). only one director listed for all six episodes, douglas mackinnon. i’m laying this blame SQUARELY at their feet. hey dudes, you fucked it. dudes, you fucked it up so bad. dudes. how. did you do this. it’s almost astounding. it had to have taken WORK to make it this bad. truly impressive. hope you weren’t paid for that work.

damn i’m only just starting episode 4 but the good omens adaptation is? awful? it gets the tone all weird, the pacing is. a mess. and there’s plenty of stuff visibly added in that wasn’t in the book and the writing is so vividly different and worse that it’s jarring. 

also why????????? would you decide to set it today????????????? and not in the 80s???????????????????????????? it doesn’t make sense in 2019!!!!!! it makes sense in the 80s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i’m annoyed

Queen cannot save this mess

damn i’m only just starting episode 4 but the good omens adaptation is? awful? it gets the tone all weird, the pacing is. a mess. and there’s plenty of stuff visibly added in that wasn’t in the book and the writing is so vividly different and worse that it’s jarring. 

also why????????? would you decide to set it today????????????? and not in the 80s???????????????????????????? it doesn’t make sense in 2019!!!!!! it makes sense in the 80s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i’m annoyed

it gets directly worse the longer it goes on the graph is a straight slide downward

ok the longer i watch this the more my petulant annoyance and “this sucks”ishness transforms into actual, like, confusion and bafflement that something that honestly should be unbelievably easy to do well (because the book is SO fuckin solid and tightly written) is being wasted so extravagantly

(and also features some truly cheap-looking vfx work, which, why?) 

and OK the bafflement is definitely underlaid by some petulant anger that i would never have been able to get myself into a position where my thoughts about this would have been heard or i would be able to work on this or something like it. i know you gotta NOT GIVE UP ON UR DREAMS!!!!!!!!!!!!! to get there but the film industry is so massively discouraging especially if you’re not an able-bodied man that i didn’t get far enough into not giving up on my dreams to get anywhere real before i uh, gave up on my dreams. 

but i promise, i could have improved this almost anywhere along the way. and i doubt i’m the only one.
