It’s still the funniest thing to me that Skadi took one look at Specter and immediately could tell she was under the influence of something and that madness had overtaken her, and for two years, the theory was that Skadi, who clearly knew Specter from before Rhodes Island, saw how insane and violent she was nowadays and could tell instantly that she was not the same Specter she knew.

2 years later, we get Under Tides and we learn that the reason Skadi instantly knew something was off about Specter was not in fact any of that, but rather, it was because Specter was being polite, pleasant, and demure. The moment Specter’s brainwashing is undone and she regains her sanity, she starts cursing at Quintus and bantering with Gladiia and Skadi, and became even more violent than when she was crazy.

Skadi took one look at Specter the first time she saw her in Rhodes Island, saw her being polite, and said “this is deeply wrong, this must be the work of enemy forces…”. Not the violence, though, she was always violent, that was the normal part and what likely kept Skadi’s hope alive.
