I don't really care if someone uses the term "autism awareness" instead of "autism acceptance" and I honestly think both are important
a lot of people, including myself in the past, say that people are now aware of autism and we just need acceptance but I disagree.
me and my mom were having a conversation a while back and she was talking about the fact that people know the word "autism" but don't know what autism actually looks like. when my mom was raising me people were very aware that autism existed but would constantly chastise her about how she was being a bad parent when my autism was visible. multiple people suggested that my "behavior problems" could be solved with a belt.
those people knew about autism but they didn't see my autism. my autism was visible but they saw it as "behavior problems" and "defiance" and "disruption" not autism. they didn't know what autism actually entails.
being any level of visibly autistic will put you in this situation even today. people might be aware of autism but not aware enough of autism to know that the way I'm acting is just autism.
we do need autism awareness. people need to know what autism actually looks like. people need to know more than just the word.

$122,000. And the thing is so shodily designed that the accelerator can become that easily stuck. It isn't even all one piece.
$122,000. That's more than my entire household income, and we're 3 adults with full-time jobs.
If you gave that $122,000 to Feeding America, that would provide over 1 million meals.
That's $122,000 more than Tesla paid in taxes.

"I invoke my right to an attorney. I invoke my right to remain silent."
Exactly those words. Nothing more, nothing else. Then shut up.
in light of police across the country cracking down on pro palestine protests with brutal force, it feels like a great time to remind everyone to shut the fuck up around cops. don't make small talk, dont act friendly, don't fucking engage with them!! if you are arrested DO NOT speak without a lawyer present. protest organizers, get into contact with local pro bono lawyers who can be there for your arrested comrades. no matter what, if cops are there, shut the fuck up unless you are actively doing a protest chant. dont tell cops why you were there, dont tell them if you're affiliated with the school you may be protesting at, dont tell them if you came there with anyone, dont tell them anything!!!

young artist posting your work online, heed my warning. im holding your face so gently in my hands, you have to stop caring about numbers right now and start caring about making the weirdest and most self-indulgent art you possibly can

Yeah, it is one of those things that seem a lot older than they are!
Long story short, it really was a mangy coyote, but scared people in the dark will see all sorts of weird stuff and create lore out of them.
you know what really gets my goat?

Don’t look at things you know will make you angry. Don’t read the comment sections. Don’t look at the blogs of people who add dumb comments to posts to confirm that they’re dumb all the time. Don’t read old conversations you had with people you don’t talk to anymore. Go look at pictures of kittens or something instead. Protect yourself from negativity in every way you can.

I did this for a school project in Mexico. We did empty egg shells because the school didn't want a mess in case an egg broke.
One of our classmates opened a daycare where she kept people's egg shell 'kids' in her locker for a small fee.
One kid broke his egg shell and tried to counterfeit a new one. The teacher noticed.
It was... weird.
okay americans i gotta ask because as an European i grew up with lots of american shows and cartoons and in a lot of them there was an episode where they give the protags a doll or an egg or a bag of flour or whatever and told them pretend to be its parents or something

Being a young adult is so strange. You enter a coffee shop. The 20 year old girl waiting behind you cried all night because she just came to a new city for university and she feels so alone. That 27 year old guy over there works a job he is overqualified for, he lives with his parents and wants to move out but doesn't know what to do about it. That one 24 year old dude already has a car, a house, and a job waiting for him once he graduates thanks to his dad's connections. The 26 year old barista couldn't complete his higher education because he has to work and take care of his family. The 28 year old girl sitting next to you has no friends to go out with so she is texting her mother. That couple (both 25 years old) are married and the girl is pregnant. The 29 year old writing something on her laptop has realized that she chose the wrong major so she is trying to start all over. We are not alone in this, but we are actually so alone. Do you feel me

USE YOUR LIBRARY'S SERVICES
This is the best way to ensure that they will get funding.
If you can, go and check books out.
If you can't go, then use Libby.
If you don't want to read, use it for a club (crochet / knitting and libraries just go together like PB and J).
If you don't have enough people for a club, go do your homework there (the internet is usually free there!)
If you no longer have homework, go write there. Go draw there. As soon as you keep it clean, librarians don't really mind you being there. They actually love it!
Sometimes they have free passes to local museums. Or archives and references to look up your family tree. Or subscriptions to newspapers and magazines on any topic you can think of.
Use your library's services, please. It is one of the last bastions of free places to hang out in.
"Don't use Libby because it costs libraries too much, pirate instead" is such a weird, anti-patron, anti-author take that somehow manages to also be anti-library, in my professional librarian-ass opinion.
It's well documented that pirating books negatively affects authors directly* in a way that pirating movies or TV shows doesn't affect actors or writers, so I will likely always be anti-book piracy unless there's absolutely, positively no other option (i.e. the book simply doesn't exist outside of online archives at all, or in a particular language).
Also, yeah, Libby and Hoopla licenses are really expensive, but libraries buy them SO THAT PATRONS CAN USE THEM. If you're gonna be pissed at anybody about this shitty state of affairs, be pissed at publishing companies and continue to use Libby or Hoopla at your library so we can continue to justify having it to our funding bodies.
One of the best ways to support your library having services you like is to USE THOSE SERVICES. Yes, even if they are expensive.
*Yes, this is a blog post, but it's a blog post filled with links to news articles. If you can click one link, you can click another.

As with the horse poll, please regard these options as sliders. The extent to which each one deviates from 1/6th of the total will determine the amount that canine aspect deviates from the "average."
I will draw the dog we make. :)
