As a diviner, the tarot system bugs me.

Why are these face cards here. The meaning of the king is so close to the meaning of the queen. And they represent character traits rather than experiences, which means that they often don't fit right in a reading that's asking about what's going to happen etc. Like, I know there's always a way to make them fit if you look at them sideways, but it just throws me every time. Why even have them if they're going to be such a pain?

Why are there so many repeated meanings? I mean, do you really NEED the Empress, the 9 of Pentacles, AND the Queen of Pentacles? Like yeah, I get it, they're all SLIGHTLY different, but there's SO much overlap.

Reverses. I refuse to read reverses. 'Cause like, what's the opposite of greedy? Is it NOT greedy (IE well-balanced desires) or is it TOO generous? What's the opposite of happy? Is it sad? Angry? Bored? Vaguely disappointed?

What are the staves. What is that.

If swords represent air and the mind/intelligence, why are there so many more inauspicious cards in the swords suit than in the others? Is being a deep thinker THAT BAD?? *flashes back to grad school* Never mind, I guess that's valid.

So if the three biggest subjects people come to fortune-tellers on are love, money, and health... Why do pentacles represent 2 of the 3? Like, okay, if the question itself limits the topic to, say, health then you know that the pentacles represent health and probably not money. But if you're just doing a general reading... why do the staves and swords mean so little and the pentacles mean so much?? It's hella lopsided.

I guess one of my major quibbles with tarot is that so much of it relates to mental states rather than physical, external occurrences. That's probably why I don't like staves. When you get a two of cups, it's like, "Ooo! There's a new relationship in your future!" And when you get a 9 of pentacles it's like, "Wow! Wealth and physical comfort are headed your way!" But when you get a page of wands, it's like, "...Well, I guess you're gonna start wanting to do something." "Do what?" "Dunno."

WHY ARE THERE 78 CARDS TO MEMORIZE OMFG. I guess I should just be grateful I'm using the Ride-Waite-Smith deck and not the Marseilles: If I just had to straight-up memorize that four curved lines meant "trust your gut", I'd probably shoot myself.

I mean, I'm learning it, and it's okay, and there's stuff about it I like, but... jfc. Half-tempted to remove all the face cards from my personal deck AT LEAST.

While differing greatly from traditional Tarocchi or tarot cards, this set earned its misleading name because of a few, unimportant similarities. Never a game, scholars generally agree that this set was an educational tool, used to visually describe a fifteenth-century philosophical model of the universe. It was believed that the universe was a ladder-like structure that began with the beggar and rose through the ranks of man, the muses, the liberal arts, the virtues, and the planets, until it finally reached the pinnacle, the dwelling place of God. Reflecting this order, these fifty engravings were divided into five groups of ten: the Conditions of Man; Apollo and the Muses; the Liberal Arts (with three added disciplines–Poetry, Philosophy, and Theology); the Virtues (with three personifications of cosmic principles called "genii"); and the Firmaments of the Universe.

Merseburger Spells

The Merseburg Spells or Incantations are two magic spells found in a Latin Sacramentarium and are written in Carolingian minuskel. The manuscript originates from the Abbey of Fulda, Germany and are dated around 800-900 AD, but only rediscovered in 1841.

The spells do not show any sign of Christian influence and are the only written proof of Germanic mythology in Old High German.

The first spell tells of prisoners of war which are freed by the Idisi. An unknown kind of god-like figures, possibly a Germanic version of Valkyries.

The second spell is a healing incantation. Wotan rides through the woods with Balder, until Balders horse named Phol gets hurt. Wotan, Friia (Freya), her sister Volla and Sinthgund and her sister Sunna sing to the horse; let your wounds be cured.

There are other version of the second spell known, but in different rhyming couplets and turned into a Christian motive.

English and Dutch speakers may identify most of the words without knowing the lyrics first.

Okay, the runes are saying, "Listen up!" Apparently they think you really need to hear what they're saying.

Both of you are going to spend some time building up your savings and getting yourself established in work/life first. Don't freak out if this takes longer than you expected, or even MUCH longer! The time always seems to go slowly when you're waiting.

I'm a bit old and I've been single for over a decade or two due to circumstances. However I do want to have a forever partner and get married to him, and have a life together. I'm also child free i.e. never had any children by choice. And even though I was very broody for just a couple of years, last year I came to the conclusion that I don't want any children and this decision has made me feel very liberated! And I'm glad that i didn't go through any kind of process in the previous years to get a child. I love babies, but that's quite literally the only stage that I love of having a kid, nothing beyond that, lol. So I wanted to know, whether in future will I have a husband for me and will he be happily childfree / childless as well? I don't want to be a step-parent btw, whether of younger or older kids, nor do I want to adopt. I just want me and my husband and a dog or two, and our happy, cozy retired life (maybe babysitting our friends' kids once a while, lol).

Someone recently posted about how Tumblr clout doesn't actually translate into anything in real life, it just means X amount of people read your post, so what's the point?

I mean besides the fact that some people actually use their posts for good, like activism and combating misinformation, there's just posting for the sake of posting which is its own reward.

But also, sometimes you'll make an impression with your fucked up posting that someone decides to send you a DM to talk to you about elves or a podcast or a podcast about elves or something and now you've made a new best friend :)
