I'm inclined to agree Dark Fred is shame or something of the like.

I don't think Bright Fred is supposed to be sympathy or compassion, actually, I think it's more like... "virtuousness" - it is a kind impulse that he has, but it's still a self interested one. The wiki describes him as naive for saying that he just wants everyone to get along, but also thanking the player for helping him when there's no other way to do it without clearing out the other Freds.

They can see and hear each other remotely, I don't think he's completely clueless about what happened. Maybe "fawning" is the better term for it. It's not insincere that he wants to help Sam or that he wants everyone to get along, but he equally wants relief. If you choose to fight him, instead of getting angry it's a hurt "what did I do wrong?".

He's passive, he's more focused on behaving well than he is on challenging anyone, "good" in a very childish sense.

I think Divine Fred... he's partially self-aggrandisement, partially cynicism. If you think about it, it is still self-elevating to some degree to think that you're better by rejecting authenticity at all. He's understandably not that happy with the original Fred for painting him, but he also would rather have the lot of them gone. He's a bit caustic.

He's the artist who thinks he's better than everyone else because he can see what a farce all of this is and he wears his self-interest on his sleeve.
