Unfortunately, I do not write for commissions. However, I'm very touched that you're interested enough to ask regardless.

There's a few reasons why, but one of the biggest is that I can barely hold a proper writing schedule for myself, and I know myself way too well. I would not be able to get anything out in a reasonable time frame to anyone willing to pay me.

I haven't asked them about it yet, as it hasn't come up naturally and account deactivation is a huge decision to make.

It's always super sad seeing someone whose work you've enjoyed so much deactivate without warning. Feels like a piece of the community fizzling out.

That's some good fucking lore right there.

Firstly, Mer!Illumi simply being a freak for a Mer sounds like him. I just realized it was a monsterfucking on both sides, reader getting railed by mythical mermen, but Illumi otoh had a rare encounter with a definitely not aquatic, not tailed or scaled yet resembled another mer, creature... and his first decision is to check if it was a female he could have sex with. And then drag her back home when she was. I love him so much. How did he even know they could have viable offspring?

Secondly, Hisoka swimming up, refusing to leave, and insisting on also trying out this whole hybrid children things is awful and funny to think about.

I now assume that it went kinda like this: Hisoka wonders why Illumi no longer showed up anywhere (having settled down to raise a family) -> went looking and found a lot of Illumi-looking merkids, with legs, of all things -> found reader -> getting initially driven out by an enraged Illumi -> then got curious how reader had the solitary mer!Illumi tied down with so many kids -> wanted to experience why, enough to go against predatory instinct + pissing off Illumi as a bonus -> then spent about a year(?) making his case given the gap between Honey and Illumi's youngest. Was hooked the first time he got to breed her, never left after, alas poor reader. Neither seem inclined to keep their hands off, the amount of kids she's had to push out is at least equal to the years she spent with them.

Also, the kids. No wonder Sissy dislikes Hisoka: he showed up one day, tried to creep on her mother, got into a fight with her father, and then refused to leave, a weirdo bothering her family for a long time. Illumi later agreeing to let Hisoka join must have been one of his decisions she disagrees with. Bless her though, she seems to be trying to make life easier for reader in what ways she's able to. It's not a pretty picture when both the youngest and the eldest can tell their mother being left alone with their fathers means a Bad Time for her.

(Speaking of, what kind of sea creature does Hisoka resemble? Illumi's explicitly an eel, but I don't know what kind of fish has the coloration he and Honey have. He's got a tail, but is it more classical fish-like or some other?)

Firstly, Illumi had no idea.

Secondly, Hisoka is terrible and I love him for it.

You're nearly 100% right on that timeline with Hisoka joining the relationship. I do know there were a few things that went differently, though again, details were years ago and buried in the chat log.

One thing that's very clear though, and I'm glad you recognize, that no matter how much Sissy is like her father, she still loves her mother. All the children do, each show it differently, but while Sissy is the most like Illumi in terms of appearance and personality, she does not agree with all the treatment her mother receives. She's far from stupid and even though she's very young, she knows the bruises and scratches her mother gets after being with Illumi and/or Hisoka are far more painful than her mother would ever let her or her siblings believe.

As for what Hisoka's Mer form, from what I remember I pictured it after a tiger shark, but pink going into white with gold fleks. Honey's skin kind of gave the colouration away, since she has the same skin tone as his tail does, but you're right, I didn't put much detail on what it looked like as much as Illumi's.

I have not read the book yet, but I saw the film and have seen some quotes from the book.

Do I see the yandere potential in Coriolanus Snow? Absolutely I do.

Anon still in Merfic Solitude hell... if you're open to talking about old fics, then could I ask about the mer-folk lore/worldbuilding you had in mind writing? If it's okay with you. Whenever I reread it, I always want to know: wtf is/was going on in the mermen's (mostly Illumi's, honestly) minds.

The misery inflicted upon the reader is viscerally felt, in her perspective, but there is so much going on in the background that she/we can't see because of how limited her understanding is.

I am almost embarassed with the stupid long comment (filled with 3am questions) I left in the AO3 fic. Almost but not quite. Because I have so many questions; like mer!Illumi's implied to be atypical decision to keep a human, how Hisoka joined the couple, and what's the situation with the kids and how cognizant they are of how weird the family unit must be.

I have legit contemplated about Illumi's possible thoughts about the mentioned first meeting, their time in The Caves, and Sissy's birth/childhood.

(Also I know deep in my bones that for all her obvious terror/aversion to them, Illumi absolutely looks back into those lightless times with something like fondness. Some part of him probably dislikes that he took her out of them because she'd never been beyond his reach/away from the water down there. Sissy and siblings probably know that he Hated it when reader flees to land after they have time together and he couldn't follow her past the shore.)

Never be (almost) embarrassed about leaving super long comments on fics, I can tell you with certainty that authors Love That Shit. If our works get you thinking, that's fantastic to hear - even if you believe it's just word vomit and 3am questions.

I'll be so honest, there is a LOT of lore for that fic. The world-building (discussed between myself and the friend I wrote the fic for) lasted for three days. That is not an exaggeration. The details you're looking for are so buried in chat history that I am not even going to attempt to look for them since it would be going back years.

That being said, I'll answer some of your questions based off what I can remember.

Mer!Illumi's atypical decision to keep a human is just simply because Plot. There wasn't any special reason behind that, monsterfucking was just happening.

2. Mer!Hisoka joined the family forcefully. He invaded the territory because he could, and finding Reader was an unexpected surprise, but a welcome one. Why he decided to take them as a mate specifically is left up to interpretation.

A lot of the mystery surrounding Reader's situation is done on purpose to make the confusion and horror more real. As a writer, I have some lore on why the men were behaving the way they did, but it did not make any sense at the time to put that into the fic itself because it either was not needed or would not make any sense.

It was also super early in the days of my blog and my writing was not as refined as it is now. Even rereading it, there is a lot I would change, but I won't for several reasons.

3. You're absolutely right that Mer!Illumi would prefer to keep Reader down in the Caves. It's more isolating and practically guarantees that Reader would have no reprieve or time to themselves, but that sort of lifestyle can and will eventually kill someone. He may have said that the island was a privilege, not a right, but it was also a necessity - even if he wouldn't say it outright.

As for the children themselves, I know my friend and I spent a lot of time discussing their personalities, but most of those details haven't survived in my memory. I do know that talking about them and creating their concepts was a lot of fun and Sissy was a far more complicated character in our chat history than portrayed in the fic itself.

But keep in mind those details weren't strictly meant to be said outright. It was written for my friend knowing that she knew all the lore and could fill in the blanks herself (which makes it personally more devastating) and a lot was left out in order to make an "x Reader" version.

Three days worth of conversation condensed down into 10k words was still leaving a lot out. That being said, I do like that because I love leaving things up to the interpretation of my readers.

Again, I'm so glad you love the fic so much. Now that it's MerMay again, maybe it'll stick with you even more.

I'm ruined,,, I just saw another post mention Oviposition for Easter and got full body blow'd, flashback'd, and mental chokeheld into the Mer!Illumi&Hisoka fic. I cannot not think about it anytime I come across anything mermaid-tangential... Anyway, ily, thank you so much for it even though I only discovered it long after you put it up.
