NFT- Road to Commando 0004
SIGH* i’m in so much fuccim debt yo.
I didn’t comprehend the weight of my debt until this very morning. I got scammed a while back by a lady claiming to be a real sugar momma(i couldn’t believe it). LITTLE DID I KNOW. IT WAS A SCAM.
I LOST $7000...
I feel so stupid.
                         How
                                   Did this happen to
                                                                    ...me
Fall Semester of 2021 was a series of terrible mistakes. Absolutely horrendous. Absolutely treacherous. My intellect was not activated. I mean come on bro. This hoe gave me chlamydia!!! My fault. “should've known than to trust lifestyle condoms.” I crashed my 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander car. Poof. Gone. Dissappeared. I got SCAMMED BY A SUGAR MOMMMA WITH FRAUD CHECKS. LIKE what the HELLLLLLLLL was I thinking.  Sugar mommas don’t give money away like that. They just don’t. and if they did, they want you to suck their toes or something. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. restore MY INTellECT PLEASE.
I went to Europe with my sister that was fun :)
2022 im started off rough yo. If you made it this far please donate to my venmo:Andres-Carrillo-16

NFT- Road to Commando 0003
It has been a long time since I updated my blog, but I was in ROME. Yes, folks, the city where all roads lead to. Statues on top of figures. Fountains on top of fountains. It was the epitome of Western culture for centuries, and its influence cascades worldwide. I absolutely loved that city and everything it had to offer. I enjoyed going to the Vatican and feasting my eyes on all the masterpieces. I did not have much time to look at how the NFT market is moving, but I heard it's going pretty good so far. I don’t think my bank account is ready for the NFT space, but nevertheless, I want to pursue it.
Recently I have been thinking about cash flow and how I don’t have any...lol
So I’ve been thinking of some solutions. I have come to the realization that I am a boss. Plain and Simple. I am a boss and I need to start acting like one. So whatever I say goes and I need to make moves. None of my dreams are going to be accomplished if I don’t put my will and intellect to good use.
There has been a lot of research being done on: Drop Servicing, Marketing Agencies, Outsourcing, and Dirty Jobs. My research began with drop servicing and ended with dirty jobs. I realized that there is so much potential here that it’s not even funny. There are tons of companies that renovate, inspect, clean apartments but they need something else. I have been thinking big recently and making a business that does it all. IDK its a start.

NFT- Road to Commando 0002
Today has been a very studious day. I got into the nooks and crannies of a lot within the new digital space. I mean, we’re talking: Ethereum, blockchain basics, how miners get rewards, crypto-wallets, and a lot more. This field is absurdly huge. It is ridiculously huge. It would take about a year to develop a decent understanding of all things crypto, but the truth is I need to jump in NOW! NFT’s, web3 communities, and DeFi are all interesting matters I want to get into. I realized that I needed to get some kind of blockchain certification and java programming in my toolset, but that’s later down the road. I need to see which wallets I should get (especially for NFTs) for the time being.
I recently watched a youtube video under the channel “The Bitcoin Express,” Homeboy explained how NFT’s are more than just awesome profile pictures or social status...they are the next generation of entertainment and media companies. That completely changed the way I see this market! In all honesty, it makes sense now why Nike would jump on board. Soon, we’ll have Netflix, Disney, HBO, and other big corporations jumping into the NFT space. The craziest part is that it’s still in the early early stages of development, but I have a feeling it can only go up from here. Of course, it can’t go “straight-up”...nothing in this world goes up without a few bumps in the making. Who knows how the legislation will affect digital assets in the future.
I would like to take the time to see what my next steps are. For one, I need cash(lol), but more importantly, I want to jump into the NFT community. I am just not sure where to start. I researched the tools, but I would rather get acquainted with what’s popping, where everyone is setting their eyes toward. What’s funny, what’s interesting, what’s mundane. This is where I want to be. There is a couple of youtube channels that I currently follow, but everyone says you need to look at Twitter. Twitter is fast, youtube is slow but condenses information that is pretty. Maybe I need to research how Twitter works and how I can make it enjoyable because, as of right now...it’s the most f’n boring platform I have ever come across. It’s talking out loud into a void and hoping someone says something??? Where is the joy in that?
Oh, now that I think about it. You know what’s fucked up...NFT TOOLS. For the love of God almighty, they are so powerful!!!! They are costly, but the amount of decision-making leverage is absurd. I wonder if people worry about how they can compete. Then again, I should only worry if I were a whale, but that is just my hot take. Whenever I think of whales, I remember that little “.io” games people used to play where you start as a blob and eat your way to become the most enormous blob in the game...good game.

NFT- Road to Commando - day off
Today was an interesting day. You might not know this but, I am currently in Italy with my uncle for the Holidays. Southern Italy is absolutely beautiful. I guess the aesthetics and nature nourishes my soul in.
If Italy were a color it would be bronze.
Olive trees and Window XP hills just pump serotonin into my brain like a mofo.
We went to a little town called Merdas.
Tumblr media
As you can see...it looks hella old. For the first time in my life, I actually sat down and enjoyed my food (SOBER)  with the company of my beautiful family. Im joking of course... We shared jokes, family stories, and had arguments about religion and what have you... Apparently my sister is really big into “New Age.” I think it’s her way of coping for the lack of magic she states, “was stolen away from her at an early age.” Do not get me wrong, that is a detriment to any kid, but like damn who gives a rats-*** if Santa, Tooth Fairy, Easter Rabbit, don’t exist per se. They’re technically real in our collective consciousness as some kind of capitalistic commercial incentive but that is about it... Bore me to death will you. That’s cheap magic.
Today I found out that there are more young billionaires than ever before. Thanks to crypto-currency and the emergence of blockchain, we’ve been able to increase wealth substantially. This hypes me up because...damn I wanna be a billionaire so fucking bad. Bruno Mars pun intended
“Andres, you would never become a billionaire and even if you did what would you do with all that money.”
Thank you diablo, for that little shit of a statement... and it’s none of your damn business. Just know that I am going to spread seas like Moses in this bitch.

NFT- Road to Commando_0001
Ladies and Gentlemen. I had to hit the books today. I feel like I’m taking an accelerated crash course into NFT’s and I have barely scratched the surface.
What I studied in a nutshells
1. What twitter accounts to follow
2. Crypto terms
3. NFT’s that have crashed
4. NFT tools that you “basically” need
5. What are whales and how they affect the market.
I’ve yet to go into discord. I feel like this is going to be really important. I also need to check on getting a wallet and gaining access on open sea. The market is extremely volatile and NFT sales have dropped every month for the past few months. From my understanding, a lot of these projects are scams (fml) and they’re just quick flips with no substance, so you need to be careful with what you’re working with.
Personal note: The past few weeks have not been easy for me. I’ve gotten into a car accident, I got sick (smh), spent lots of money on things, and lost my bank account to a fraud scam...so yeah
Last night I was thinking how it would be neat to start some sort of e-service. The idea then expanded to some kind of Art and Technology company and finally I dreamed big on some kind of Enterprise. With the help of blockchain, cryptocurrency, and web3.0, this is highly possible. I know there is a service I can provide to this world and I know its through art. I don’t think it matters how you start as long as you just start and HEY I am starting!!! woo-hoo so coo.
I even had a name in mind, but I don’t wanna disclose it ;) hehehe. you don’t have to look too far... BUT THIS ENTERPRISE
It will compete with the likes of big names such as FB, Google, Apple, Governments, etc. Its going to be a little giant...kinda...maybe an actual giant who knows. but it will take art and technology to a whole new level. One where the average consumer will be the protagonist and have a say in art. One where art meets the way we structure cities, relationships, work, love, war. One where art is what HUMANS DO.
HUMANS...such an abstract idea. kinda like “Man”. I cant really picture “Man” per se, but I can picture “a man”. That is what I want to get at. this keeps coming to mind whenever I ponder art because the abstract concepts don’t have form in themselves rather it is always in the particular. AND THAT IS WHERE WE MUST LOOK TO AND LOVE.
I am rambling at this point. Please excuse the grammar errors. My grammarly add-in doesn’t work on Tumblr for some reason. Phewee.

NFT- Road to Commando
NFT’s ARE SO DOPE YOOOO!!!! I just found out about this new tech, and it’s as if God took everything I love about trading cards, art, communities, money, social media, hype, all into one cohesive conjunction...and...BOOM! NFTsssss
On the real, I stayed up all day looking into NFTs on “opensea.io” and other markets. It is absolutely incredible what people come up with on these platforms! In my head, I kept receiving insights as to how this is going to change the way we consume art, appreciate art, share art, connect with art. Just wow...wow...wow... wo o  o   o     o     w.
I really enjoy the exclusivity and rarity aspect to NFTs. It reminded of how back in the day, Yu-Gi-Oh! used to make cards with different rarities (super rare, ultra-rare, ghost-rare) and mark up the values to cards. It was such a flex to see the guy with a holo’d out deck. “SHEEEEESH”. I think NFT are going to be like that, but 10x better.
I have ideas as to what I want to create. I think it would be cool to make my own exclusive profile pictures. I don’t want to say too much because it is all in the works. hehehe, but just know it’s going to take the world by storm.

Week 3 Final Blog
Wow...this was a quick class. If only I had the opportunity to take this class for a semester. Nonetheless, I had an amazing time. With the skills and coaching that I have gotten from this class, I am certain to apply for that design internship in the near future. My confidence has really boosted and I believe my portfolio is better than it was last semester. I want to thank my professor, Stephanie Nace, for taking the time out of her summer mornings to teach us a little bit more about design. Her criticism is sincere and her keen judgement shines upon my projects’ lackluster. She kept our class pushing forward and for that I am truly grateful. This week we are working on our final project which is to make a book front/back cover. Below is the quick sketch I had in mind.
Tumblr media
I hope that you can see the main focus which is the female and the male intermingling. Hopefully by the end of the day I should have a clean drawing filled with the vision that I have in mind. I have a whole day to play around with colors so we will see where it goes.
Chapter 14, Interactive Multimedia Installations and Interface, is an extension of the chapter I read yesterday. It is interesting to see the blend between marketing/branding and pure creativity and design. The two need to go together to create something unique. The chapter distinguished between Digital Developers and Digital Designers, both I thought were synonymous.  Digital developers create and program creative content for websites and all types of user interface. While Digital Designers are responsible for supporting web development and creating other digital media. Notice Web designers are subordinate to developers and support developers in making websites. All in all, this chapter is chocked full of interviews from designers at Google, Apple, and other graphically intense companies. It is safe to say that art is rapidly advancing into the digital realm.

Week 3 Blog 1
“I can’t believe that this is the final week of this class. I am not going to lie it has been very insightful. I was humbled by all the amazing designers in my class. Each person is absolutely unique and creative. The critiques in our class broke me down and made me want to continuously improve. Before I act like it is the last blog I will ever write, I need to talk about our last project. We are making on a cover for a book we really enjoyed. This book is not like any other book I’ve ever read. It was a total life changer. I am also going to revise my poster because I believe I can do much better.
Tumblr media
The chapter for today was all about branding and packaging. I was immediately taken back to my first Marketing class in Darla Moore. Our teacher reinforced this idea of product mixes; Basically, it is the idea that a company has a product tailored to a certain niche in a market. It is the job of the product marketing team to produce the best product possible. In theory it sounds nice and ideal, but in reality it is utterly messy. I liked this chapter because interviewed designers  reinforced the introductory page claim, “ Branding is storytelling.” This is a clear way to put it. In order to capture the attention of your customer, you have to entice them with an experience. If you can’t do this more than 51% of the time, then I believe you have a failing product. On page 168, Mirko Ilic is asked, “ Is this field for specialist or generalist?” He claims that a specialist will do well whether or not the economy is flourishing, but an up and coming designer should make the best of with what they got . either case, it is important to keep pushing for specialization in your field.

Week 2 Blog 4
Tumblr media
GEEEZ I can’t believe I didn’t write my blog on time!!!! I am such a loser sometimes. I just got back from work and realized that something was missing and then BAM my brain reminded me of my blog. Today’s critique on my poster illustration was incredibly enlightening. I have so many ideas rolling through my head, but the most important thing that comes to mind is “message.” I am definitely going to work on it tomorrow morning. I am not so sure about the book essay assignment, but even if I did know... I am going to keep it a secret “duh.” Above me is a a rough draft sketch of the bum for my poster. I think he looks very homeless, what do you think?
Today’s chapter tackled a big question that always revolves around my head when I think about my career,” Work for someone or work for yourself?” Such a tough decision, but both have its risks. I tend to see many graphic designers work for another person first and then become business owners. When interviewing Lydia Decker, she was asked, “ What do you look for in hiring a designer?” In summary, she looks for a terrific portfolio that is diverse and good communication skills. I tend to gravitate towards these types of questions because I always put myself in that “intern” position. As a student I am always trying to absorb more knowledge, hopefully to maximize the joy out of each opportunity.

Week 2 Blog 3
Tumblr media
Last night was incredibly perplexing. I had to choose between bar hopping with buddies and working on my poster ideas. I thank God, I chose working on poster ideas. There is something fulfilling about freely choosing the virtuous decision. Don’t get me wrong, it was an incredibly hard choice (woe is me). The ideas started flowing, and my brain started churning. Luckily I have managed to save enough time to play with all these ideas and make a clean final product. I took bits and pieces from my mood board and brainstormed ways that I can incorporate them in a cohesive way. The point is to only retain someone's attention but also quickly.
I don’t really get why we’re just NOW reading chapter 1, but you know what they say...don’t question the professor. Chapter 1 is very insightful in the sense that it’s a unique introduction to graphic design from the lenses of actual professional designers. Stefan Sagmeister is outright bold and in your face with his work. I found it interesting when he was asked, “What qualities do you seek for when you hire a new intern?” he responded with, “Good ideas well executed.” I wonder if he is this vague in person or was he just in a bad mood. lol
I have fallen deeper in love with graphic design. It is a young field of art,  but there is so much potential that it almost seems like it about to burst. It is daunting yet exciting and the career field only seems to grow at an exponential rate nowadays. It is becoming increasingly apparent that the world is in high demand for creative jobs and this has me on the edge of my seat. ngl

Week 2 Blog 2
Tumblr media
New week means new project!!! I am very excited about this project. I have made sure to push all other assignments for my history class out of the way, so that I have enough time dedicated to this project. I have decided to go focus on the problem of homelessness here in Columbia. Ever since I was a freshman, I noticed a huge population of homeless people roaming around the streets of our capital and to be honest I am not sure why. I feel a mix of disappointment and frustration every time I see homeless people begging on the streets. Why does it have to be this way... I am not sure, BUT, we were instructed by the LORD to attend to the poor, outcasts, less fortunate, etc... And it makes sense. Why else would I be blessed with so much abundance in this life if it weren’t to give back to those that have less than me.
Chapter 8 deals with Social Innovation, and how many graphic designers make designs to promote social innovation. We are introduced to a graphic designer, Mark Randall. Mark is a citizen designer that owns Worldstudio, Inc. The company is split into  non-profit and for profit organizations each generating projects and programs revolving around big social issues. Mark believes that pro-bono isn’t a sustainable way to work for the average ambitious graphic designer.

Week 2 Blog 1
I finally finished project 1 which was an awesome project to start with. It was difficult being accurate and precise with each part of the project. Nonetheless, I was able to finish the project this weekend. The hardest part of the project was cutting out the figure of Selena Gomez for each individual contrast part. Overall, this project pushed me to make further improvement. Below is a picture of the final product.
Tumblr media
Chapter 5 in our textbook is incredibly valuable. It talks about the process of designing a trademark/logo. It is said that logos are cornerstone of graphic identity for a company. Without them, a customer/ client would not be able to recognize your company immediately. Terrible logo design, doesn’t cohere with your brand which results in non-recognizable design. A logo must appeal to the client’s cognitive and emotional levels. You will know that you have a good logo design when the forms are beautiful. They don’t simply identify but pull the eye’s attention.

ARTS 245-1st week
First week’s already moving so fast! The project critique is tomorrow and I just hope I don’t come disappointing or getting too many negative critiques. Actually negative critiques bring some good stuff out and improve the project but damn it hurts.  This week we focused on chapter 4 of our textbook, Becoming a Graphic Designer. This chapter focused on “Letters and Type.” What first caught my attention were the Q+A with large graphic designers such as Marian Bantjes. It struck me odd when she was asked about Simplicity and its relevance to her work. She seemed to love simplicity, especially in Modernism. Her ideal home would “be a modernist box.”(Bantje) You can see it in her work, but it was just odd to me because you can somewhat see a little hints of simplicity beneath the surface of her posters. So maybe she isn’t a true modernist.
Tumblr media
This is my weekly progress picture. By the end of the day I should have most of my contrast color 4x4 completed. The black and white is looking a little strange to me now that I’m looking at it. I might have to redo it. In any case I’m going to have a decent version of the project done by the end of the day. This project is really interesting and I enjoy working with precision. Something about that is very relaxing. 100% precision isn’t possible but I’m pretty darn close.

Final Cap
ITS OVERRRRR!!!! Im done with this semester. Im done with my lazy business school colleagues. Im done with process models. I just want to do art for the rest of my life. These business constraints are life draining.
DON’T GET ME WRONG
they have their place in society, but pleaseeeeee don’t make it your priority. Money in its essence is just a transactional means of acquiring something you need or want. It’s so much better to make things (ie. producing ART).
This semester has been the grind of my life. I’m hopefully getting excellent grades by the end of it. But it doesn’t stop there. I have summer classes which are critical for me to graduate on time. so yeah
Like always, art classes are my favorite. My passion and meditation. Without it, I would probably be engulfed in my existential dread with all these meaningless school work. NONETHELESS, WE MOVE FORWARD. As long as I stay in “zen” and pray to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, nonething can fricking stop me. and thats facts

Week 12
I finally got out of quarantine this week. It’s amazing what 10 days of social isolation can do for you. When you have so much time on your hands, you really need to take a step back and smell the roses. This week, I decided to put in some more effort into the design project. A lot of class projects are accumulating and I really don’t want to sacrifice quality in the course of the next few days. I’m just trying to be acutely aware of time management. Besides that, this week’s reading was phenomenal. Very interesting if I do say so myself.
Chapter 12: The creative process
The context of this chapter was very dense, but valuable. As a student of design I tend to notice how much I lack in structure. The entire process gets real blurry real fast. It seems like that there’s no logical sequence to the process.  Chapter 12 gave insight into what the overall design process looks like and what others have done in their own creative endeavors. It is important to mention that there is no clear cut method to producing an excellent graphic design. With that being said, the design process is somewhere in between intuition and logic. the overall process can be broken down into 5 overlapping steps: Defining, Gathering, Ideating, Synthesizing, Realizing. I say they overlap because they aren’t sequential. As a designer you can always go back and tweak one and jump to the others in no particular order. It sounds messy, but the creative process just isn’t clean by its very nature. There’s so much more to this chapter. It’s just full of great information and I would strongly encourage any artist to read into what others do within their creative process.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have taken a coupe screenshots of the rough draft for the process journal. It is still in the rough draft stages. I haven’t fully written the text boxes in each section and I have yet to place all the visual stimuli. Working with multiple pages is it bit of a challenge because I need to incorporate something that “brings it all together.” The best I have been able to come up with (but haven’t implemented) is a color scheme. Using this color scheme on each page brings a since of uniformity. Hierarch is also very important. I want to keep the process journal simple and not over the top. I am thinking of making the background a “grey-skin”. I just need something to offset the blatantly mind numbing whiteness in front of me.
Anyways, that’s what I have so far. Once again, I would love to get all this work done by the end of Sunday. Who knows.

Week 11 Blog 10
Woah time flies. But here we are on the 11th week of this semester. Very exciting... Indeed I have some goodnews. I made a perfect score on my exam!!!  I’m overwhelmed with joy. Hopefully my GPA can improve this semester, so that I can keep up with my senior requirements. Back to ARt!!! I read chapter 10 todays and it was basically a collection of cases where type design was implemented in a practical way. Typography is crucial in so many aspects of our society that we take it for granted. Basically if it has letters on it than you should learn some typography. Why you ask? Well, because you need to make it pleasing! We humans don’t like to look at things unless they grab our attention in so shape way or form. Otherwise what’s the point...lol. But it doesn’t always have to be “pleasing.” Take for example that Buenos Aires case where Train station signs were illegible. The city needed to make their train station signs easy to read, so that riders understood the routes they were taking. This is where typographic design saves the day. Not only did they solve the problem but also built a better system which is still in use today.
Tumblr media
This is my project picture...N O T  C U T E. I have no idea how I am going to make this project. I don’t even know what I am going to put in it. I first need to collect as many pictures of this semester’s projects together. Also I need to find my two favorite chapters in this book and add those into the mix. Finally I need a better front/ back cover idea. I am not sure if I’m going to make it simple or arTsY. But yeah, that’s where I am at right now. Hopefully future me knows what to do. lol

Week 9 Update 9 Chapter 9...
I FINALLY FINISHED MY ZINE!!! LETS GOOOOOOO. It was a lot of sweat, blood, and tears but we made it y’all. I can’t believe it. It came out really good. The last two blog updates have been a bit late, but hey I got them done.  I need a good grade in the class. I digress. This project was really cool. I learned a lot. InDesign is an awesome application and I hope that I use it more often in the next few years of my career. It truly is such an awesome app. A lot of my group members while we met for critique told me that they couldn’t stand InDesign, but I found it easy to use. Wayyyyy easier than Illustrator or Photoshop. But each application is unique. This week we are starting a new project, project 4, and we’re starting a new Chapter.
Chapter 9 is all about typography in motion through time and space. The idea first came about during the birth of film. Typography was an effective way of conveying meaning. Through the shots, scenes, sequences, and film; film makers were able to give words and sentences meaning through movement. It’s important to note that movement in typography isn’t like movement in an art piece; but rather it’s a extra dimensional layer of meaning to words. For example, a word slowly getting larger and larger gives the allusion of it getting closer and closer which brings the attention of the viewer. The chapter further elaborated on  rhythm, pace, timing, position, hierarchy, and many other facets to this complex subsection of typography. You can probably write a whole textbook on just this chapter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a sneak peak of my Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier Zine. This was my first Zine ever and it’s been my favorite project so far. A lot of true hard word went into this and frankly I think it came out nice. Is it perfect? No, not at all.  I would work a bit more on the front cover and maybe on the actual text itself, but other than that I really like how it turned out. If there was something more i would like to learn more it would be photoshop skill. I had to use photoshop just a little bit to tune up the pictures. I can’t wait to show this to my cousin. He’s going to flip.
