MasterClass

I started an online learning course called Master Class that I became interested in recently. Learning is not a rigid feeling and various people such as famous overseas artists, actors, writers, etc. will conduct lessons with videos. It costs about 20,000 yen a year, but it's worth the money!

To my delight, I had learnt that Alicia Keys gave lessons within this course.

I've adored her for a long time, and I still listen to her music. During the course, she talks about how to create songs and how to arrange them in detail, so there's no reason why fans shouldn't watch the videos!

Moreover, if you listen to the song after seeing this, the context will be known and it is superb! Each sound has a meaning, and I like the song more.

In the future, I want to cover No one or Fallin' on the accordion.

By the way, I was shocked to realise that Fallin ’is made up of only two chords!

Monet

When I was a university student, I stayed in London for a month. On weekends, I visited the National Gallery. Up until that moment I had never enjoyed going to the museum. But when I saw the painting by Monet, I became intrigued by his work. It was like I was back in the 19th century. Nice scenery, greenery, snowing, every view was excellent! Afterward, I told this story to my teacher, and she said "Me too, Ikumi! I love Monet too! Which one did you like the most?" I uttered, "I love the painting of the beautiful train with snow." This experience made Monet special for me.

Self-promotion

I'm not good at self-promotion. I don't know why but ever since I was a child I have never been good at this. For my type of personality, introverted and shy, it can be difficult to work in an organization where the boss doesn’t recognize your contribution. Luckily I’m working in a nice team right now so it's alright, but how do people deal with this problem on a daily basis? I imagine that is quite tough.

Today I had an accordion lesson for the first time in a long time. Despite the fact that I haven’t been practicing I have been praised a lot, which has left me a bit confused.

Why accordion?

In 2017 I went to a concert to watch a band called Mr.Children. The supporting artist was called Koharu, an accordionist who took my breath away. After the concert, I wanted to know more about her and the style of music she played. It inspired me to pick up the accordion myself and I have been playing ever since.
