here i wanna serve you some insights and descriptions of npcs that are significant in my canon, in the canon of ace's island and the connection to him and rouge. they're important figures in the family sense for ace and can be often seen in the town.
they're avaiable as npc characters on my blog for rp purposes upon request and plotting.
jude is the main law enforcement officer who enforces authorities and keeps criminal activity to a minimum in tanmesa. he is a sheriff who has held this position for several decades by being firm and having a good sense of justice even in the worst cases. the people feel safe despite pirates and outlaws being allowed in the town thanks to the sheriff operating. he's more than 70 years old but no one really knows his exact age for some reason.
name: jude west
age: more than 70
faceclaim: micah bell ( rdr2 )
occupation: tanmesa town's sheriff
jude is a person whose personality is characterized by firmness, strictness, and a perpetually grumpy disposition. at the age of 70, he carries himself with a sense of authority and experience that demands respect, though his demeanor often makes him unapproachable.
whether it's about the weather, the state of the world, or the incompetence of others, jude always finds something to grumble about. his complaints are as constant as they are varied. though he'd never complain about a good drink.
often can be found in the outpost but also very frequently stays around zed's saloon. most of the outsiders, outlaws and pirates spend their time here and jude would have a very hard time to sit somewhere away when people like that roam around the town.
he's not the nicest to outsiders. he is cold and unwelcoming, causing many to shy away from interaction with him.
jude is zed's friend and years back a member of their posse that suddenly broke off because many members have died either in duels with the law. they were considered outlaws before gaining civilian statuses.
once roger came to the island and lived here for few years with rouge before taking sail the pirate left a remakable impression on him that inspired jude to become a law enforcement officer.
when rouge came back while escorted by garp to hide her presence from the world government once news about roger's execution and rouge being pregnant with his child reached him jude kept silently patroling the portgas' ranch to ensure her and ace's safety. it was his own way for thanking roger for everything he's done for the town and people in here.
him and zed were rouge's friends and grew up with her. both of them were like brothers to her and uncles to ace. however jude never really spent much time with roger's child he left this duty to his friend.
zed is a beloved figure in the small town of tanmesa, where his saloon serves as the heart of the community, pirates and outlaws. with his weathered face, decorated with a full head of grey hair and a bushy beard that seems to have a life of its own, zed is a striking figure behind the bar. despite his gruff personality, his warm smile and twinkling eyes betray a heart of gold.
name: zed
age: 74
faceclaim: reinhardt wilhelm ( ow2 )
occupation: saloon owner and bartender
at first glance, zed may appear grumpy and unapproachable, with a voice that rumbles like thunder. he's not one to suffer fools gladly, and he has little patience for rowdy behavior in his establishment.
despite his gruffness, zed possesses a deep well of empathy and understanding. he listens patiently to ace's troubles, offering sage advice and a sympathetic ear to the pirate prince.
zed's saloon isn't just a place to drink; it's a home away from home for many in tanmesa. he treats his friends like family, welcoming them with open arms and providing a sense of belonging that is hard to find elsewhere.
childhood friend of portgas d. rouge and jude west. zed always kept taking care of rouge even if their beginnings on dryville were hard. she was like a little sister to him and when roger came to live with her here zed kept coming after closing his saloon to help them mantain their ranch. he grew on roger very quickly.
after rouge came back pregnant zed was the first person who took care of her and her upcoming child. he made sure rouge had everything she needed, even if it costed a lot of beri. he bought new cows and chickens for her to always ensure the pregnant woman had everything she needed.
once ace was born and was about 3 years old zed often took care of the boy upstairs the saloon while rouge worked as a barmaid and help to mantain the clients. despite zed seeing rouge's health drop and wither he still tried to make it better for her. but she insisted to keep working for him.
zed was the one who reached out to garp via a letter, telling him about rouge's status and the fact that she may pass away soon. leaving ace here would be too much of a heavy burden for such a young boy and he had no idea how to even raise a child. he hoped garp would find ace a suitable place he could call a home.

MEMORY OF ROUGE (TWO)
tanmesa , march. ace is currently 4 years old.
the wooden spindles that encircled the entire upper floor of the saloon were clutched by little hands. in silence, huge brown eyes wandered around. staying in one area for barely a split second, observing the environment, people conversing and drinking. the boy was unconcerned at the sound of heavy footsteps thumping up the stairs. he didn't even flinch at the quiet rasp of the planks. nothing could take his attention away from the blond-haired woman with the broom in her hands. her sleepy expression, the faint whispers of sweeping. it practically made his hold firmer, and his lip shook.
the old man came to a halt, his gaze drawn to the child. curious, noticing how the sadness and frustration rested upon the freckled darling's face. he sighed, a strong breath of smoke from the cigar passing between his cracked lips, wrinkled hands removing it.
❝ what's goin' on with you, brat ? ❞ he asked in his rough voice, the weight of smoking and years of running the saloon making his tone heavy.
❝ why does mom always leave me here ? she doesn't want to take care of me anymore ? ❞ enquired the youngster. the weight on his heart was most likely greater than the weight on the older man's voice. he couldn't move on after hearing anything like that. he appeared to understand why everything seemed to be worse than it was.
when his gaze went to the blond-haired waitress who was now wiping the bar top with a gray cloth, he shifted slightly in his position, approaching the kid and slowly lowering himself, resting a palm on top of the messy, raven black hair. ❝ see, ace. she works hard because she loves ya', not 'cause she ain't interested in you. sometimes people give their all for those they care about but neglect to look for themselves. ❞ his words were correct. this woman might work extra hours in his saloon all day. they had known each other since childhood, and no matter how many times he offered her to go home and relax, she insisted on staying, stubborn. apparently the apple doesn't fall far from the apple tree.
his large hand ruffled the child's hair and reinserted the cigar between his lips before deciding to rest on the child's shoulder this time. ❝ wash your war paint off, kid. give her a break and lend a helpin' hand. come. ❞ he straightened up and wiped his dirty apron before entering the upstairs hallway. ❝ y'can help me fix that damn sign outside that's fallin' off. i'll spare ya' some cash, so you can give it to your mama. it'll make her very happy that y'helped her. ❞

MEMORY OF ROUGE (ONE)
going to the general store aroused in him a childish excitement. miss jaina always had a lot of cool things there that immediately caught his eye as soon as he crossed the threshold. the door of the store opened with a quiet ringing of the bell, and ace immediately ran inside there. the blond-haired woman with a smile bring as the sun greeted the owner who not only delighted in the visit of her favorite customer, but also her son. even though he could mess up, knock things down in his chaos, still her loving heart could not be angry with him.
❝ welcome miss, what would ya' like me to give you today ? i have new yarns if yer' interested. and it ain't just any cheap yarn. ❞ the woman started, reaching for a box behind the counter. showing off her newest products much to rouge's interest.
meanwhile the little boy's brown eyes sparkled, seeing so much stuff around him. he didn't even know what to put his hands on, what to take and look at. on tippy toes, ace grabbed the edge of a counter filled with sundry, small equipment. grabbing a handle of a hunting knife and taking it off. he could clearly see his reflection in the blade. a slight hum stuck in his throat at the wonder of his newest find.
❝ ah, ace put it down. it's sharp and dangerous. ❞ his mother's voice reached his ears, making him squint slightly with a little bit of disappointment. he should have guessed that she wouldn't take something like that for him. with a small mumble ace put the knife down. idly wandering around the store to find something else.
his gaze rested on a couple of vases filled with various flowers. the kind he had never seen before. after all, many things were brought here from various other islands. ace was not a child interested in flowers, or gardening in general but the way his eyes rested over a specific type of them stayed for way too long. it was a beautiful, red one. having a color just like his mother's eyes. he walked closer, small hard reaching to pull one out of the vase and broke off the stem which he threw on the ground.
' kid be more kind to your mother. she's trying her best to raise you. '
these words were stuck in his head for a long while after talking with zed. he really didn't want rouge to feel like she was carrying a burden. there was hesitation on his face, something weird. off, as if it wasn't suitable for him. his cheeks flared up slightly, painting the freckles with a warm shade stuck to his skin.
shyly, he approached the two women with eyes dropped and lips rolled into a thin line. a questioning look graced upon him, both of them wondering what's wrong before ace drew air into his mouth and extended his hands with a flower head toward his mother.
❝ it's ... it's for you mama ! 'cause it looks like your eyes. ❞ ace choked out. he felt really stupid saying something like that. both of the women blinked, almost shocked at the child's sudden, soft behavior. but even though ace destroyed the flower, stripping it of its stem. rouge couldn't stay angry with him, much less the store owner. her crimson eyes, glassy with tears slowly gathering on her long eyelashed pleading as she looked down at her son. lips forming a wide smile. ❝ ace that's ... so kind of you. ❞ she said, and accepted the flower into her own hands, putting it behind her ear.
