I know I'm a wimp but I've temporarily muted notifications on the five minute doodle of gul dukat. I'm very flattered and encouraged that you guys like it so much, I just find the constant notifications really stressful and overwhelming because i'm usually getting maybe 10 notes on a piece in a week, not almost 900.

and to those brave souls who i've tricked into thinking i draw more regular star trek than I do have graced me with a follow, hello and welcome!

Time to get a little personal: I have been in a pretty difficult period emotionally due to a recent death in my family and the end of my contract for work among other things. I'm trying to find joy in art again. It's taking me longer than I'd like (I've already lost track of half of world watercolour month) but I think I'm making progress :)

Anyway that said, if you trekkies have a screenshot redraw for a particular episode you'd like to see, I might be up for it as painting practice so shoot me a reply/ask if you like. Please keep in mind that I'd like to avoid spoilers and have only watched TOS-TNG-DS9 through to maybe the first three seasons of VOY and the first couple of seasons of ENT (with a random spattering of some newer trek here and there and most of the TOS movies)

Happy Stampede Again (and also world watercolour month!). It sounds like the electorate has spoken and demand some worm poutine for Calvin! (Ed has an ube ice scramble off the KDays menu)

also, apologies for the typo - I meant to write Southern African (as mopane worms are eaten in more countries than South Africa!)

This took me most of the day to draw (I've been struggling to get painting due to being distracted by a lot of "haven't been home in 6 months" chores, the temperature going up, and the general mental miasma that comes with finishing two major projects and feeling burnt out over it... but finishing this is a good sign and I'm excited to do some more painting, even if I can't corral my brain into attempting the prompts.

It still feels sooo messed up to draw blue!Calvin but I must persist. (anyone want to take a stab at coordinating more outfits for him...?)

anyway, maybe the runners up on the poll will show up for dessert, we will see.

silly ableg comic I've had in my head for days and only now have time to sit down and start drawing stupid things again. It's always nice drawing Bertie in tourism mode rather than how I usually like to torture him, what a treat :)

for some reason we aren't allowed to table objects in the legislature as evidence anymore. clearly this is western alienation or something.

And yes I finally got to see the burger irl for Canada Day after years of hearing about it :)

we're not going to talk about how the two main federal political party leaders are "from" edmonton and calgary (weird times man)

if calvin had a nickel for every time this type of "me and calgary go way back yes i definitely haven't accidentally worn a cowboy hat backwards before" politicking happened well. he'd have a hell of a lot of nickels.

(believe it or not i was going to draw an entirely different comic about the stephen avenue revitalization but this happened instead)

happy belated pride etc etc mwah mwah

i have read a lot of things about us-centric pride celebrations and this kind of tension between stonewall being a world watershed moment and also overshadowing queer histories of places outside the us so this is my little gesture here on my little alberta blog to that nuance

here in Edmonton, we have traditionally celebrated Pride in accordance with Stonewall in June (although we did do May for a few years. It wasn't actually to coincide with our own major police raid which was at May 31 at the very end of the month, it was actually for gay choir coordination reasons, hahaha). However, since 2018 we have sort of ended up spreading Pride throughout the summer rather than having the parade, so it's still evolving.

anyway. on that note, today is my last day formally studying queer history for work so... a little bittersweet. I may be involved in future projects but it's time for me to move on to other things. but i have a LOT in my head about alberta queer history and lots of resources for anyone interested so uh. hit me up if ever you are curious. I'm hoping a lot of the stuff I've written will get published online soon (and you'll soon be able to grab physical copies of the map in certain businesses on whyte!) you can also see some of the work i did at fort ed again this year.

World Watercolour Month 1

Kicking off World Watercolour Month with a bit of urban sketching at the Alberta Legislature on Canada Day. No prompt, and I didn't have any pens or pencil crayons on me to do the detailing, but that's ok, I'm just getting back into the practice!

like edward, i have forgotten how to draw anything other than hockey (and i haven't drawn in like a week due to these deadlines and burning the candle at both ends before my contract expires, and not drawing that long makes me physically itchy.)

but at least i was able to fix up my tablet driver and force myself to get used to drawing with my normal tablet again for the first time in 6 months! hooray! :)

sigh... when will i ever be able to draw klondyke mike...

oh well. edward can't have the precise gender bending he wants this year BUT in good news, today the court of qu- kings bench granted the injunction against the alberta government's ban on gender affirming care, which is a huge win for trans and gender diverse folks and especially youth across the province <3 it's far from the end of this fight but for now, happy pride berta

If you see Ed's jersey changing colour inconsistently uh no you didnt (in my defence i was watching game 2 last night and it was Stressful)

We've been getting support from coast to coast to coast (and I do mean that third coast because the North has long been part of the fanbase!) and it's so heartening to see :) the mood out here on the west coast is pretty sombre but you do see the oilers fans and bandwagoners coming out of the woodwork. Hoping to catch a flight home before the craziness is over!!

Obviously the unprecedented political situation has made getting our cup back after My Entire Lifetime very important but... Are the other NHL cities on board...?
