For the emotional support human thing, Sask has a nasty case of the flu, so he can’t run away, and Northwest is making sure he doesn’t suffer alone.

Ollie walking in on something he wasn’t supposed to, it’s up to your imaginations of who and what he walked in on. Regardless he gets traumatised and cries to Sask about it (because he’s bed ridden from the flu, and can’t run away)

Alberta also successfully scammed some rich dude in Toronto.

Unfortunately, this might be the last picture I might be able to draw for a while, because I may have broken my wrist, I will not know for certain until after I get an X-ray later today, and the doctor checks it out.

All I know is that I have a boney lump on my wrist and it hurts like a biatch!

IAMP Characters

A long overdue reference list for tumblr for ctcsherry's provinces and territories, around which we based the YouTube I Am Matthewian Project (2009-2013) and which subsequently inspired @project-canada (2013-2017).

Please note: not all the characters received human names while the project was active. Please see my post on human name explanations (and the notes for a couple of characters I missed), I have included the fanon names that I am aware of.)

While I did not create these characters, I was part of the cast/crew of IAMP from the fall of 2009 until the end, so I'm happy to clarify whatever I (or anyone else who was around!) can remember or dig up. I also just want everyone to keep in mind that the Hetalia fandom was a very different place in 2009, and a lot of characterizations do rely on tongue-in-cheek stereotypes. They have been interpreted a lot over the past 15+ years by different people. Take it with a grain of salt!

Rather than link to the IAMP wiki, which has been edited by non-cast/crew members and thus has dubious or non-canon information, I'll link to Sherry's (ctcsherry) original bios for each province. While the 2009 LJ post in Hetanada still exists, the images are not retrievable from there even with the WayBack machine.

You’d think for a city that was once the capital of the NWT; back when the Buffalo freely roamed the Earth, Regina wouldn’t be getting her news from a meme page.

Justbins really was voted as best online news by Prairie Dog Magazine back in 2023. CBS Saskatchewan and CTV Regina were ranked 2nd and 3rd. A lot of these news stories are shared via memes…

The reason for the murder queen nickname is because Regina was once a long-time holder of the murder capital of Canada title for several years.

She doesn’t get upset at the nickname because she knows it’s true, and she figures if she calls him Stabmonton or Deadmonton, he has all the rights to call her Murder Queen in return.

Edmonton belongs to @battle-of-alberta / @acetechne (sorry! I just needed something a little silly, plus I needed to practice drawing facial hair, and I didn’t know who else to choose ;w;)

Bike Lanes

A Rare BoAB and IAMP crossover, featuring ctcsherry's Alberta, Ralph Campbell.

To be honest I am trying to recall why I try to limit the provincial cameos in BoAB and I think part of it is because I wanted to develop the relationships between the cities more and part of it is just because anything about Bertie is going to become a bit of a rant 'n rave from a municipal perspective. There's just too much material and it could consume everything I do, and I can only do so many annoying straw man comics about the province making dumb decisions that, forgive my bias, disproportionately target Edmonton, before I lose my mind.

Also, I already spend so much time torturing Bertie, and BoAB gives me fewer opportunities to paint him in a more positive light than I'd like. I do love him even though he's a dumbass, I'm just bad at showing it.

Anyway, here's a dumb decision to meddle in municipal politics, or at least the echoes of one. The word was actually "encourage" and not "order", but the messaging to city council was still the same

Some notes about references and easter eggs and things

Take a Risk It's the Most Edmonton Thing You Can Edmonton is a bit of a layered joke but a direct reference to this video.

PRINCESS PROVINCE ACTIVATE. The result of me sketching that thing about not sure when to show Bertie as the raging redneck or the spoiled ohimesama.

This particular municipal-provincial infighting is just one of the latest in a long line of the province punishing us for existing. Also, it's not even a road that really connects to provincial roads, it's a collector road, and this particular section is like, about 3 blocks directly across from a school. Bert's parked in the residential zone, not on the main road. There's tons of space.

I can't take credit for Ed's hilarious lines, that goes to a city councillor

A city councillor who has been spending time taking petty photos comparing the province's latest tirade against the city bike lanes with their risky and expensive move to buy a bunch of unsafe children's medication during a shortage and then waste taxpayer money storing it since it can't be used.

Calvin is in a tough spot as the city that Bertie likes better, but also someone who doesn't realize he's the exact kind of latte sipping liberal he claims to be fighting. Poor guy.

If it's not clear from this comic i'm joining the war on bike lanes on the side of the bike lanes. i love not driving, i love multimodality, i love occasionally pissing motorists off at critical mass events like fancy lady bike ride. Bite me Dreeshen.

That's all I can think of, I'm trying to be better at citing my sources because I realize not everyone is as weird about municipal politics as I am or keeps up with my very local and specific news.

I drew him in a Hamilton Tiger Cats jersey, thought he might want a break from wearing blue for a teensy bit, it might rub salt in the wounds.

I only found out about this team when I learned they were one of the teams the Roughriders were playing against on June 14th. This truly shows how little I know about and pay attention to sports, lol!

and i agree with everything you’ve said. i also tend to feel like matt leans on oliver a lot which leads to ollie taking the fall and brunt of most things + taking on more than he should, since he knows ollie will pick up his slack.

but i would absolutely love to hear more if you can, please. i find ollie’s and ralph’s relationship really intriguing + i love when they can just. chill and be friends and worry about shit later

oh you bet, thanks for asking! it's stuff i like to think about and its nice to talk to someone about it (and normally i don't bite, save for when I lose sleep/am travelling and am feeling paranoid about strangers asking for personal info, sorry anon from last week! but dms also are ok for things like that because then i feel more like im having a conversation and less like im performing for an invisible audience)

and yeah ol hits close to home for me so when i'm not drawing him Silly or using him as a strawman which is most of the time (sorry), he tends to be a reflection of my own anxieties about being Professional and being Forced into the Leadership Role but Also Not Delegating it because he Doesn't Trust Anyone Else etc etc, and he tends to also be a projection of the anxieties of simultaneously defining what being Canadian is and having to embody that while also realizing that its kind of milquetoast or built on sand and arbitrary and completely made up and Not the universal unifying magic bullet it is supposed to be but what the fuck else is he supposed to do, which is a theme that i have been mulling over.... well, since i was like, nine and left the country.

likewise bert hits close to home for me because..... home, so when i write him its usually expressing a frustration at the way things are/have been, and kind of satirizing the State of Things. It is difficult for me to not make him a complete wreck and I tend to focus on his toxic sides because it's Very Personal for me, but I don't want my vent comics to be like, the only version of him out there either? it's also hard for me because i feel like simultaneously i am the person who is the first to point out his faults and flaws because i can't escape them, but i'm also the person who is trying to love him unironically without shame through gritted teeth, hahaha...

so i mean even if everything i say rings true or doesn't, it's not the be all end all of their characterization, what i say is just more filtered through Me and My Experiences and I fully acknowledge that and you're also welcome to take things in another direction. lord knows i am in my own very specific rut right now that contributes to a lot of blocks i have. [and my authority on Albertanness has to be tempered with other Albertans, remember that time all the albertans got angry at me for the song i used on the i am alberta video LOL]

i don't have anything specific to say at the moment on this and i am putting off a lot of things i should be doing but uh, check back, i am thinking about it and i'm happy to help / offer suggestions / test hypotheses. :)

although, in some ways, i'm actually early. You know what I realized doing this ambitious painting? this year is going to be the 15th anniversary of IAMP.

The call for auditions was uploaded September 22, 2009, and if I recall correctly my audition as artist and VA was accepted around October or November of that same year. I've grown a lot as an artist and as a person in that long time and for some weird reason I just can't let these guys go.

anyway, thanks for everyone who participated in the roulette, I know it doesn't seem like a big deal but I really struggle drawing all of these guys without losing steam. it really helped! especially since I don't do a lot of gouache work and I second guessed myself a lot. It warms my heart a little to see you guys engaged in this silly game.

what else is there to say. oh yeah, I put two types of maple leafs. the stereotypical sugar maple is in the upper right of course, but I also put a manitoba maple in the lower left because that's the kind of maple I'm most familar with where I'm from. it's long been my mission to bring the western rep in whatever I do, so it's kind of my love letter signature to my own constantly changing understanding of Who Am I and Where Am I From.
