Image: two girls in 1920s style clothing, one tall and one short.
The girl on the right, who has a messy carroty bob and a lanky figure, is Jo; the suave curvy Filipina girl on the left, wearing a dazzling dark blue gown, is the one and only Tommie.
"If you like YA fiction but find it too heteronormative or repetitive, give Make Much of Me a try. It’s heartfelt and real and ultimately uplifting and sweet, about overcoming abuse and disenfranchisement and finding something wonderful at the journey’s end - and within oneself." - RoAnna Sylver, author of Chameleon Moon
Tommie- short for Thomasina, but she’s small and funny, so Tommie suits her just right- is a powerhouse alto, an ultra-talented dancer, and constantly cracking terrible puns. Her celebrity crushes are Clark Gable and Clara Bow, but not always in that order. If only she could make sure that her friends will never find out that she’s on scholarship, her life would be perfect!
Everything in New York is so expensive, and everyone is so pretty that Tommie kind of wants to scream. But whatever goes wrong, she’ll deal with it the way she knows best: a beaming smile and a groan-worthy joke.
If you want to learn about all the fun that Tommie and her friends have, and all the trouble and danger they get into, check out my new book, Make Much Of Me! It just came out today and it’s only $2.99!

Coercion and consent and how they relate to asexuality (tw for discussion of rape and abuse)

Should the current definition of asexuality be changed? I see people saying that they "don't feel attracted to anyone" yet want to have sex, and claim that they are asexual. If that is the case, then it makes no sense that non-sexual/asexual people to want sex and it makes asexuality just people who choose to label themselves as such. I find it problematic.
The current definition of asexuality is, “not feeling sexual attraction,” it has nothing to do with sex drive or wanting to have sex. You don’t have to be sexually attracted to a person to have sex with them, just as you don’t have to have sex with everyone you’re sexually attracted to.
Everyone is free to label themselves however they want regardless, even if they don’t fit the commonly accepted definition of what asexuality is. For instance, some people identify as ace not because of a lack of sexual attraction but because of a lack of sex drive. That’s up to them alone and no one else’s business.
It’s a very… Wide topic, I think, because there are aces who ID as asexual for different reasons that don’t always coincide with the definition, and there are ace spectrum people who do feel sexual attraction occasionally.
But I don’t think it’s necessary to change the definition at this point because it’s more of a guideline, really.
