What you need to know about teaching English abroad
June 16, 2020 | by Nqobile Mdima
You need to be fluent in English to teach English abroad.
You can teach English abroad even if you are not a native English speaker. There are countries and TEFL employers that require native English speakers. There are also other countries and TEFL recruiters that don't. Make sure you go to countries where you will live and work legally.
Depending on where you want to teach, a degree might or might not be required.
You don't need teaching experience to teach English abroad. If teaching experience is required, some countries accept a TEFL certificate from candidates who don't have prior teaching experience.
The minimum and maximum age requirements for teaching English in most countries is 18-60. But the age requirement varies across the world.

June 14, 2020 | by Nqobile Mdima
Below is a list of Apps that have been very helpful to me. They made it easy for me to navigate life in Xian City, China. They can be used in any City in China. Download them from GooglePlay Store before moving to China.
A VPN App will give you access to blocked internet. The best VPN Applications are Astrill and Shadowsocks.
Internations is great for networking with other expats and learning expat life hacks.
Mobike is the best App for getting around by bike.
Metroman is a great App for getting around by Subway.
DiDi is a great App for getting around by taxi.
Google Translate is great for breaking communication barriers.
Alipay is one of the best online payment applications in China. Alternatively you can pay with WeChat.
WeChat is a Chinese multi-purpose messaging, social media and mobile payment app.
Google Maps offers satellite imagery, aerial photography, street maps, 360° interactive panoramic views of streets, real-time traffic conditions, and route planning for traveling by foot, car, bicycle and air, or public transportation.

Get TEFL Certified
June 13, 2020 | by Nqobile Mdima
A TEFL certificate is your ticket to teaching English abroad. TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language. During your TEFL program you will be trained how to teach English to non-native students. The TEFL certificate is required by the school and government. In China for example the government will not issue you a work visa to legally teach English if you don't have a TEFL certificate or two years of teaching experience. When you enroll for a TEFL course make sure that it is delivered by an accredited provider and it leads to a regulated qualification. It must also be a minimum of 120hr.
You can get your TEFL certificate from any of these institutions:
1. itoi TEFL
2. The TEFL Academy
