Y'all ever have something that triggers a memory for you without you realizing it?"
I am so blessed. I mean so incredibly blessed.
But I heard a song tonight that brought me back over a decade ago. and just to experience what that meant for me....through memories... I wish I could go back.
Just for a few days. just to remember how it felt. (but like as an early 20-something because my 30-something year old self could NOT).
I don't regret anything. But I regret not appreciating it all at the time. But isn't that just it - we never know what we have til its gone. In my mid-30s., I can tell you now that I wish I would have lived every single fucking second to the fullest in college. I had a professor once tell me, "enjoy this, because it will never be like this again."
And damn was he right.
so far, my 30s have been incredible. But hot damn if I don't wish I could go back and relive those days one last time. to remember what it felt like to be...truly free.
Life will never be like that again.
Enjoy it.
Cheers.

It’s been awhile but worry not, I can still quote every word of the OG Avengers.
And it’s still an 11/10 movie.

Last post about the election for now - I think I’m going through the 5 stages of grief? I am totally worn out from work and running on fumes so my nerves are a bit raw and feeling things quite intensely now.
So many friends and family are so thrilled at the outcome of the election, including women who are raising female children in southern states where they have no rights.
I simply don’t get it. And I’m sad and scared. And I’m doing everything I can to keep my mouth shut and not lose friends and family. I reiterate what I said - we had no good option and thanks to the disaster Biden and the dems have made of the last 4 years, I’m not surprised at all at how many people swapped to Trump.
I reiterate above all that I’m sad and scared. Because this country is in a dark period of having no good candidates for leaders for this country.
We are better than this. We have to be better than this.

I’ve only been able to vote in a few elections - 2012 was the first election I could actually vote in. In those few elections, I never remember being worried to vote before. The threats and anticipated violence today actually had me worried. All was fine, but that isn’t the point. I live in a blue state and voted blue. I have rights as a woman here. I’m fortunate, even though I don’t love the blue candidate either.
But I am scared today. Not necessarily for who wins or loses, but just for us. What has our country come to? What happened to just using your brain and voting for the candidate who makes sense?
More so, what happened to candidates who make sense?
I hope, with all due respect, one the old white people die out that we can get some fresh blood in there and try this thing again.
Until then, Godspeed. Let’s hope we make it to 2028.

My Lady Jane
Can I please just express how UPSET I AM that they CANCELLED My Lady Jane??
It was so entertaining and while the story could have been self-contained in that one season, I would have loved to see more. Fingers crossed someone sees the value in it and picks it up because man was it good fun.

You know what show is my guilty pleasure, that isn’t reality tv?
Reign.
I binged the shit out of that show ages ago and still revisit it when I need a comfort show and yes yes I know it has all the issues but I can’t help but be so disappointed that it was cancelled early and sped through.
Also the soundtrack and that song by the Lumineers 👏🏻

Do yall know what’s perfect?
The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Books, of course. But those movies will never, ever not be a work of art. A masterpiece. Utter perfection in every facet.
My other half and I spent the last week rewatching the [extended edition] films for the upteenth time and they’re simply nothing less than magnificent. That’s all there is to it.

Years later, the Hunger Games are still some of my favorite movies (and books!)
Elizabeth Banks and Woody Harrelson are ace. So is the rest of the cast really.
(RIP to Philip Seymour Hoffman)

On a lighter note, The Gentlemen on Netflix??
Who knew Teresa from The Maze Runner was such a great actress? And don’t get me started on Theo James. He’s been one of my favorite actors/pieces of eye candy since Downton and Divergent.

Alabama recently passed a law against DEI (Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion) as well as teaching “divisive concepts”.
I have a LOT of feelings on these laws. Having lived in Alabama for nearly six years and obtaining my doctorate amongst the BEST of people who were from all over the world and every walk of life, I have a soft spot for it. But this bill will turn away the best of scientists and doctors and students because why would they come to a place legally saying they aren’t worth it?
It’s almost as terrible as unviable embryos having more rights than living, breathing female adults.
I feel for everyone there at my grad alma mater. I’ll always be proud to have been there, my training could not have been better. But to think of all the amazing people I worked with, who are not the “white, straight folk” Alabama seems to hate, now being nearly legally discriminated against breaks my heart. Make no mistake, the bill will have resounding repercussions in Birmingham.
I hate the south. And Kay Ivey, who must eat a child’s soul daily to still be alive.
I can’t understand how much further backwards they can go until they’re employing legal slaves again who also aren’t white. And I am so freaking glad we don’t live there anymore.
Yes, we all have our issues everywhere. But I’ll take the issues in this northeast city vs the south any day, and twice on Sunday.
Just add it to the list of reasons I couldn’t be happier to be here, and be thinking of all those wonderful people who further science and medicine and life in general who will suffer from this bill.

It’s been a weird few weeks/months. Just dealing with the typical career crisis and uncertainty, an injury that has been a slow road (for me) to recover from, and the flu.
Anyway, feeling pretty down in general from it, especially the past 2 weeks and dreading going to work Monday so tonight, while recovering from said injury (which is much better) and the flu, I am taking a blast from the past and watching one of the best movies every created.

One thing I resolved to do better this year was reading.
I barely managed a handful of books all of last year. I blamed work, and a lot of emotional personal stuff at home.
But this year, I just finished book 11 of the year and it’s not even March yet.
