The inherent intimacy of lending someone your most beloved book annotated by you & sharing the deepest segments of your soul with them. The ambivalent act of making yourself completely vulnerable yet better understood.

An annotated book carries the presence of others. They bring your attention to specific things, to their views, to what they managed to feel from it. I can think of few intimacies like that, sharing what encountered others, what was felt.

My PIN number to this day is my second grade best friends birthday. There are people I don’t talk to anymore whose families are still in my prayers. There are shirts I wear to bed from exes of 8 years ago who are married now with kids. And I haven’t found a macaroni salad recipe better than my college boyfriend’s mom’s. Our lives are made up of so many people and when people become parts of our lives, some parts remain long after they leave. And in the same exact way, it’s comforting to know there are so many lives you’re still a part of that you have no idea about.

“The marvelous thing about about white rooms is that there’s no color or pattern to distract you, so you become very aware of the way sunlight comes in, and how the light changes from season to season. You also see the shapes of furniture more clearly. White shows off everything well.”

summer night vibes
sitting in your chair, half-naked with a glass of wine in one hand and a cigarette in the other, only the light of the open window shining upon me

how to fall in love with life again
go cloud-gazing, lay down in the grass on a sunny day, or empty roads on a rainy day, stare up at the sky and let your mind wander.
read a book so complex that you don't understand anything, fill your arms with scrawled definitions.
writing poems and notes of kindness, hiding them for other people to find and pass along!
read passages of love in another language, untranslated and realise that love can surpass even the greatest of barriers.
find your favourite flower! hunt for it, research it, write an essay on why you love it and how much it means to you!
buy another copy of your favourite book, fill the pages with annotations and give it to a second hand shop for somebody else to experience it the way that you do.
fill a journal with moments of your life, even if you don't think they're very interesting.
listen to music whilst looking at the moon and stars, realising how beautiful life is.
visit an art gallery or a museum near you. become familiar with it, visit it until you know it inside out. make it your special place.
learn the little things about people, including yourself. find their favourite colour and why, find their music taste, their taste in books until you know them perfectly.
the small things! taking sips of warm beverages becomes the most comforting thing, closing your eyes for a moment on a bus and focusing on the lull of movement.
bake/cook your favourite treat. experiment and find the way that makes it taste simply ethereal.

No offense but literally nothing and no one is and will ever be out of your league. Nothing is too good for you. Nobody has the right to make you feel like you are not enough or less than you are, you deserve the world.

“It is extraordinary when you meet someone and right away you know that they are the one you’ve been waiting for. Suddenly all the heartache, the pain and the distress that you went through was worth it because it led you to this one special person.”

Simple yet dramatic DA things to do🏹☕️
Sit down in the shower. Tip your head back and pay attention to each drop of water that lands on your face. Listen to nothing but the noises that the water makes as it misses your body and hits the base.
Sit by an open window late at night and feel like cool breeze brush past your face. See how it helps forget your problems for a brief second?
Lay down on your floor and place your legs up against the nearest wall or wardrobe. Play song songs through headphones as you stare into the abyss of your ceiling. Cry if you need to.
Listen to a heavy bass song on an old speaker whilst in the bath. Turn off the lights and submerge your head underneath. For a couple of seconds realise how nothing else matters apart from that bass that swims through the water. Take a very dramatic deep breath when you raise your head from beneath the water.
Write down your feelings and deep secreted emotions on a piece of paper. Screw up the paper and throw it into a lot fireplace. Watch as the paper blackens and how your thoughts are lost within the blaze.
Drink fruit juice out of a wine glass. Swill the juice around the glass whilst you turn the pages of an old book. Read a dramatic line of a book and react loudly before taking a sip from the glass.
Using stacks of books and cushions to reach something on a high shelf. Stretching onto your toes to try and grab whatever is just out of reach.

“If we’re going to talk, then let’s talk. Forget about what is polite or proper and delve right into what is sincere and honest. Lead me down through the labyrinth of your true, spectacular self. I am not interested in pleasantries. If you want a conversation, then let’s get lost.”
