7.26 Friday Faves
7.26 Friday Faves https://ift.tt/BNnY9lp Hi friends! Happy Friday! What are you up to this weekend? Aloha from one of our favorite places ever! We’re here for a couple of weeks to enjoy some beach time, shopping, luaus, and all of the poke bowls. 🙂 I’ll share all the details in an upcoming post, but here are some pics from the adventures. (Recap of our last trip to Waikiki is here. If you have any recs, I’d love them! Especially if you know of a gluten-free malasada. Thank you, friends!) It’s time for the weekly Friday Faves party! This is where I share my favorite finds from the week and around the web. I always love to hear about your favorites, too, so please shout out something you’re loving in the comments section below. Before we get started, congrats to our giveaway winners! Amy D. and Julia! (I’ll be reaching out to our winners to get their goodie packages on the way!) Stay tuned for our August giveaway 🙂 7.26 Friday Faves Fashion + beauty + random: Got the kids their new lunchboxes. This is what I use for Liv and this is P’s. We’ve been fans of the Bentgo boxes for years and they last well and don’t leak. This is so random, but an exciting purchase from the week: I got a prescription snorkel mask on Amazon. I can actually see the fish when we snorkel! From my eye journey, I learned that was never supposed to swim with contacts on, which is fine because I have Rx sunnies, but I can never dive down and see anything. This completely changed the game! (I’ll spare you the ridiculous photo that the Pilot took of me wearing the mask and absolutely cracking up with glee) Olive Peeling. I’ve been using this as a gentle exfoliator. It doesn’t have a scent and works well but is still gentle enough for sensitive skin. Amazon faves. Here are the bestsellers from this year’s Prime Day! This camera – it makes an excellent gift for tweens. These are the Pilot’s everyday shoes. (They are SO light and I kinf of want some lol) This super cute vest outfit. This egg chair. This Free People dupe. I get compliments every time I wear this. This packable sun visor. Frownies! Read, watch, listen: Started this a couple of days ago and it’s everything I love in a book. It’s a historical novel inspired by a true story, with deep character development and beautiful writing. I feel like I can’t read it fast enough. Don’t forget to check out this week’s podcast episode here. Lots of summer book recs here. What do you love about your childhood home? Fitness, health, life, and good eats: Celebrating my nana’s birthday last week! We birthday lunch with her at Little Anthony’s and the next day, had an amazing 85th birthday celebration at Tanque Verde Ranch. The food was even better than usual (which says a lot because we love their food!) and we loved celebrating the birthday girl. HIIT workout with no repeats. Maybe a short workout before bed isn’t such a bad idea? Have a happy weekend and I’ll see ya soon. Have a wonderful weekend, friends! xoxo Gina The post 7.26 Friday Faves appeared first on The Fitnessista. via The Fitnessista https://ift.tt/TAzfYsN July 26, 2024 at 06:41AM

Homemade gelatin gummies for gut health
Homemade gelatin gummies for gut health https://ift.tt/niNlxyM If you love gummy bears, you can make homemade gelatin gummies for gut health. They are healthier than store-bought ones because you can: make them yourself, include organic ingredients, and avoid artificial dyes and flavors. Learn how to make homemade gelatin gummies here. Hi hi! What are you up to this week? I feel like this week is bananas, but I’m looking forward to a much-needed haircut tomorrow. My hair is getting outta control. This is so random, but the Whole Foods cashier asked for my hair routine. It made my whole night, especially when I was running around like a stressed-out greaseball trying to assemble some items for dinner. I admitted that I don’t wash it a ton, use cheap shampoo and conditioner, swear by Moroccan oil, and that I think including collagen and gelatin in my routine has made a difference. Collagen is super easy to implement in my morning coffee, but lately, I’ve been finding more creative uses for gelatin. I’m sharing one of my faves in this post!! I asked Mia if she’d help me out with a gelatin gummies recipe for the blog, and she shared her go-to recipe with me. Grassfed gelatin gummies Grassfed gelatin gummies make a great healthy snack for you and your kids! Grass fed gelatin has a ton of health benefits. It can help to repair gut lining and support healthy hair, skin and nails. It’s good for your joints and is an easily digestible protein for those suffering with tummy troubles. It isn’t a substitute for meat, but it’s a great way to sneak in extra amino acids, especially if you don’t eat nose to tail. Read on for a healthy homemade gummy recipe your kids will LOVE (you too!) and what makes these even better than store-bought versions. Homemade gelatin gummies for gut health Collagen vs. gelatin Gelatin and collagen are similar, but just a tiny bit different. Collagen is the most abundant form of protein in our body, and is made up of amino acids that affect our connective tissues, hair, skin, and nails. Gelatin is hydrolyzed collagen, meaning that it’s been cooked to break down to smaller particles. Gelatin makes the gel-like substance when mixed with water, while collagen does not. They can both be used to promote healthy skin, hair, nails, connective tissues, joint function, gut health (from forming the tissues that line the gut), and immune function.

5 Factors That Might Be Making It More Difficult to Exercise
5 Factors That Might Be Making It More Difficult to Exercise https://ift.tt/8MOlB2b Exercise is essential for maintaining physical health, mental well-being, and overall quality of life. However, for many people, finding the motivation and opportunity to exercise regularly can be challenging. Several factors can contribute to making exercise more difficult, but recognizing and addressing these obstacles can help you overcome them and achieve your fitness goals. Here are five common factors that might be making it more difficult to exercise: Time Constraints: Busy schedules and competing priorities often make it challenging to find time for exercise. Between work, family commitments, social obligations, and household chores, carving out time for physical activity can feel like an uphill battle. To overcome this obstacle, prioritize exercise by scheduling it into your daily routine. Set aside specific times for workouts, treat them as non-negotiable appointments, and be consistent in sticking to your exercise schedule. Lack of Motivation: A lack of motivation can make it difficult to get started with an exercise routine or stay committed to long-term fitness goals. Factors such as fatigue, stress, boredom, or self-doubt can sap your motivation and make exercise feel like a chore. To boost motivation, set clear and achievable goals, find activities you enjoy, vary your workouts to keep them interesting, and enlist the support of friends, family, or a workout buddy to help you stay accountable and motivated. Physical Discomfort or Pain: Physical discomfort or pain, whether from injury, chronic conditions, or poor posture, can hinder your ability to exercise comfortably and safely. Ignoring pain or pushing through discomfort can lead to further injury and setbacks. To address this obstacle, consult with a healthcare professional or physical therapist to assess your condition, develop a personalized exercise plan, and learn techniques for managing pain and preventing injury during workouts. Environmental Barriers: Environmental factors such as inclement weather, lack of access to fitness facilities, or unsafe neighborhoods can pose barriers to exercise. If outdoor conditions are unfavorable, consider indoor alternatives such as home workouts, gym memberships, or online fitness classes. Explore local parks, trails, or community centers for free or low-cost options for outdoor exercise. Additionally, prioritize safety by choosing well-lit and populated areas for outdoor workouts, especially during early mornings or evenings. Mental Health Challenges: Mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, or stress can significantly impact your motivation and ability to exercise. Symptoms such as low energy, mood swings, and lack of interest in activities can make it difficult to engage in physical activity. To address mental health challenges, prioritize self-care practices such as meditation, mindfulness, or therapy to improve your emotional well-being. Incorporate exercise as a form of stress relief and mood enhancement, focusing on activities that uplift and energize you. In conclusion, several factors can make it more difficult to exercise, but with awareness, effort, and support, these obstacles can be overcome. By prioritizing exercise, setting clear goals, finding activities you enjoy, addressing physical discomfort, overcoming environmental barriers, and prioritizing mental health, you can create a conducive environment for regular physical activity and reap the numerous benefits of an active lifestyle. Remember that small changes and consistent effort can lead to significant improvements in your overall health and well-being. Spain Summer Packing list
Spain Summer Packing list https://ift.tt/PSo74EU Sharing a Spain packing list and all of the things I packed for our trip! Hi friends! I hope you’re having a wonderful week so far. The kids and I are off to a base event, and I’m looking forward to a hot yoga class later today. I’ll share a full recap of our amazing trip to Spain next week, but in the meantime, I wanted to share a packing list with some of the things I brought! Spain summer packing list Wear on the way there and back: (I did a couple of loads of laundry while we were at the Airbnb) Spanx Air essentials set. I’m always cold on planes and this keeps me warm, and is comfy enough to sleep in Dresses: My goal with travel dresses is to bring short ones I can wear with sneakers during the day, and just swap to dressy sandals for dinner at night. I also brought a couple of dinner-only dresses. I found that the vibe there was pretty casual and anything goes (besides athleisure. Don’t do it lol). Skirts, shorts, dresses, with sandals and sneakers all worked. Daytime dresses: This floral mini dress (so cute with the white Vejas) High-neck traveler mini dress A Maeve short sleeve collared mini shirt dress (OOS right now and I can’t find anything similar) Hutch mini shirt dress (size down) Rails striped dress Ulla Johnson dress Derek Lam flutter sleeve dress An old Madewell short floral dress Dinner dresses: Farm Rio ocean tapestry dress. SO pretty, true to size, and on sale right now. Embroidered Farm Rio dress. The details on this are exquisitive. It was a splurge, but I’ve worn it so many times already. This one is on sale right now, too! Crochet-style maxi dress This red dress from RTR that was perfect for flamenco night 😉 Tops, skirts, and shorts: This skort with this bodysuit I also brought a pair of jean shorts with an embroidered top but didn’t wear it Workout gear: I knew I’d likely not get in official workouts, but I just brought some leggings and sports bras in case I could do Sculpt Society at the Airbnb while we were just hanging out, and also some shorts and a tank top for paddlebaording Vuori tank and shorts (2 sets) 1 pair of lulu leggings and an Align tank Swim: I brought my fave Vuori bikini and wore it with jean shorts, this coverup, and this visor Shoes: Veja low-top sneakers Valentino sandals Vivobarefoots (in case I could sneak in a workout- they actually stayed in my suitcase) Flat brown sandals Extras: Our suitcases are worth a shout out because we love them. They’re not expensive, huge, and excellent quality. We have three of these from Nordstrom Rack. Handbags – I brought my Gucci camera bag, a leather crossbody I got in Italy last summer, and ordered this really inexpensive one from Amazon for nights out. I was super impressed by the quality! This travel pillow! I’m a side sleeper, so this was a literal dream come true for the plane Melatonin. I tested out some melatonin before our trip to see if it would help me sleep on the plane. Usually I’m too anxious and toss and turn. I CRASHED OUT. It was everything! Obviously talk with your doctor before taking new new supplements, but this is the first time I haven’t been jet-lagged; it helped me reset my circadian rhythm. You can use FITNESSISTA10 here. Toiletries, especially my Oliveda face cream, eye care goodies, tinted SPF, and makeup I have another post planned soon with weird things I bring on vacation 😉 Also, it’s worth mentioning that Rent the Runway is SO worth it for trips. I love using it to try new brands – I’ll often end up buying the things I love – and I feel like it’s a sustainable way to rotate through a lot of pieces. You can use my referral link for 30% off your first month. Have a wonderful day and I’ll see ya soon! xoxo Gina The post Spain Summer Packing list appeared first on The Fitnessista. via The Fitnessista https://ift.tt/EbDZhav July 10, 2024 at 06:21AM

7.5 Friday Faves
7.5 Friday Faves https://ift.tt/r9zT41x Hi friends! How are you? Happy Friday to ya! What’s going on this weekend? We had the BEST time in Spain and are back in the states after 10 amazing days in one of our new favorite places. I’m working on some blog post recaps to share, but in the meantime, here are some pics! It’s time for the weekly Friday Faves party! This is where I share some of my favorite finds from the week and around the web. I always love to hear about your faves, too, so please shout out something you’re loving in the comments section below. 6.28 Friday Faves Read, watch, listen: I read Nora Goes Off Script last year and loved it, so of course I had to start this. What are your hopes for this summer? How your environment affects cognitive health. Fitness, health, and good eats: Melatonin. I was on the fence about melatonin for years, but with more knowledge, I’ve changed my mind. I think it can have benefits, and can absolutely be used as a tool for better sleep. I ordered this to try at home to see if it might help me sleep on the long overnight flight – usually I’m too anxious to sleep – and it was everything. It helped me doze off and get a great plane catnap on the way to Spain. We had zero transition to Spain time – it’s the first time EVER we could jump in the first day and not feel totally jet-lagged. Not medical advice – just sharing something that worked well for me – and of course, always talk to a doctor before taking new supplements. The link to the liquid melatonin is here and my discount code is FITNESSISTA10. Got this olive oil to bring back with our souvenirs. It’s been rated #1 in the world for many years; you can actually find it on Amazon. I’ll probably order more there when we run out. Small Somavedic. I’ve been a huge fan of our regular-sized Somavedic – I use it to potentially help mitigate EMFs and for water structuring – and was pumped when they sent a smaller one that I can use in my car or office. It’s so gorgeous!! You can read more about the science behind Somavedic here and use my code FITNESSISTA for a discount. They also have a 30-day return policy, so you can try it for a while and see if you like it. Fashion + beauty + random: Obsessed with this Farm Rio dress. It’s true to size and on sale! I should have bought more of this hand cream at the Farmacia. SO silky and thick, with a light floral scent, and it was like 4 euros. These tanning drops! I use these all year to turn regular body lotion into tanning lotion. Hope you have a happy weekend and I’ll see ya soon! xoxo Gina The post 7.5 Friday Faves appeared first on The Fitnessista. via The Fitnessista https://ift.tt/H5bJVrl July 05, 2024 at 12:18PM

High Protein Chipotle Bowl Recipe
High Protein Chipotle Bowl Recipe https://ift.tt/WIJgLMF Sharing a super easy and delicious lunch or dinner option: high protein chipotle bowl! Hi! How is the morning going? I hope you’re having a great day so far! Today I wanted to chat about one of my favorite easy lunch or dinner options: a chipotle bowl packed with protein. I try to have at least one palm size of protein in all of my meals and snacks. Eating high-protein dishes offers numerous benefits for your overall health and well-being. Chipotle bowls are not only delicious but also provide a convenient way to increase your protein intake. Today, I’m excited to share a high-protein chipotle bowl recipe that you can easily make at home. High Protein Chipotle Bowl Recipe What Is In A Chipotle Bowl? A typical chipotle bowl consists of three main components: rice, protein, and toppings. The rice serves as the base, providing a hearty foundation for the bowl. Protein options include chicken breast, beans, or steak, offering essential amino acids for muscle repair and growth. Toppings such as homemade guacamole, pico de gallo, and chipotle peppers in adobo sauce add flavor and nutritional value to the bowl. How Much Protein Is In A Chipotle Bowl? A standard chipotle bowl contains approximately 30-40 grams of protein, depending on the protein source and portion size. To increase the protein content, you can opt for double protein or add additional protein-rich ingredients to your bowl. How To Make A High Protein Chipotle Bowl Ingredients: White rice (or cauliflower rice) Chicken breast or meat of choice. You can also use tofu or tempeh! Homemade guacamole Chipotle peppers in adobo sauce Beans (black or pinto) Corn (I personally hate corn but if you like it, live your life lol) Olive oil Garlic powder Fresh lime juice Cilantro Salt and pepper to taste Instructions: Step 1: Cook the rice according to package instructions and set aside. Step 2: Season the chicken breast (or protein of choice) with olive oil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Grill until cooked through and slice into strips. Step 3: In a bowl, mix together homemade guacamole, chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, fresh lime juice, and chopped cilantro. Step 4: Assemble your chipotle bowl by layering the cooked rice, grilled chicken, beans, corn (if you like that stuff), and homemade guacamole mixture. Step 5: Garnish with additional cilantro and a squeeze of lime juice, if desired. Serve and enjoy your high-protein chipotle bowl! Making a high-protein chipotle bowl at home is not only easy but also allows you to customize your ingredients to suit your taste preferences. By incorporating quality protein sources and fresh, wholesome ingredients, you can create a nutritious and satisfying meal that supports your health and fitness goals. So tell me, friends: what’s one of your favorite quick meals?? This sushi roll in a bowl is another staple. xoxo Gina More: Our go-to weeknight dinners The post High Protein Chipotle Bowl Recipe appeared first on The Fitnessista. via The Fitnessista https://ift.tt/82Inew9 July 03, 2024 at 06:05AM

We had fam over last weekend and made brisket, smoked chicken legs, salad, and my new favorite fruit tart – recipe coming next week) 6.21 Friday Faves Read, watch, listen: We took the crew to see Inside Out 2 and it was so good! It was better than I was expecting and we’d see it again. Highly recommend this podcast episode. Taking all of the parenting hacks I can get. Don’t forget to listen to this week’s podcast episode here! Fitness, health, and good eats: Olive Mush! I was waiting for this to be back in stock and snagged it up the second it was back. I can’t do regular caffinated coffee (I’ve been drinking decaf for years), and this is a great coffee alternative with 100% olive leaf/hydroxytyrosol, organic cacao, mediterranean herbs and functional mushrooms. It tastes chocolate-y and spiced (almost like a chai) and I love it with almond milk. I’m a huge fan of adaptogens and functional mushrooms, and this is a great way to get in these superfoods with the benefits of olive leaf/hydroxytyrosol. You can get yours here! Runnnnn to Costco for this meat! It has simple ingredients and is a great easy protein source. I’ve had it in a wrap (Coyotas tortillas with Chosen mayo, sriracha, and leftover roasted veggies), in a Chipotle-style protein bowl, and plain. One of my all-time fave summer salads. Super yummy chicken salad. Fashion + beauty + random: Loving this Abercrombie dress and have worn it with sneakers and sandals. It has built-in shorts and is true to size. Did you guys see that SHEER FLATS, like the ones with little rosettes and beads on them, are back in style? I am not ok. This is the bronzer stick I’ve been loving lately. It blends well and gives a little bit of color. It’s been super windy here lately, so I’ve been hiding outside. Thankful for self tanner and bronzer sticks. Ordered these reusable water balloons for the kids and they’ve been a huge hit. They’ve also enjoyed this racecar floatie. Hope you have a happy weekend and I’ll see ya soon! xoxo Gina The post 6.21 Friday Faves appeared first on The Fitnessista. via The Fitnessista https://ift.tt/yYIeOV5 June 21, 2024 at 06:20AM

Whether you’re an athlete looking to enhance performance, a fitness enthusiast aiming to build lean muscle, or simply someone who wants to improve their diet, increasing your protein intake can offer numerous benefits. Fortunately, there are plenty of delicious and convenient ways to boost your protein intake without sacrificing taste or variety. Here are seven easy ways to incorporate more protein into your diet: Start Your Day with Protein-Rich Breakfast Foods Kickstart your morning with a protein-packed breakfast to fuel your body and keep you energized throughout the day. Incorporate protein-rich foods such as eggs, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, or protein smoothies into your morning routine. Pair these with whole grains, fruits, and vegetables for a balanced and nutritious breakfast that will keep you satisfied until your next meal. Snack on Protein-Rich Foods Instead of reaching for sugary or carb-heavy snacks, opt for protein-rich options to keep hunger at bay and maintain steady energy levels throughout the day. Portable and convenient snacks such as nuts, seeds, jerky, hard-boiled eggs, edamame, or protein bars make excellent choices for on-the-go munching. Include Protein in Every Meal Make it a habit to include a source of protein in every meal and snack to ensure you’re meeting your daily protein needs. Aim to incorporate lean proteins such as poultry, fish, tofu, tempeh, legumes, or lean cuts of meat into your meals, along with plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains for a well-rounded and balanced diet. Add Protein-Rich Ingredients to Your Meals Boost the protein content of your meals by adding protein-rich ingredients such as beans, lentils, quinoa, chickpeas, or nuts and seeds. These versatile ingredients can be incorporated into a wide variety of dishes, including salads, soups, stir-fries, and casseroles, adding flavor, texture, and nutritional value to your meals. Choose High-Protein Snacks and Supplements Consider incorporating high-protein snacks and supplements into your diet to help meet your protein needs, especially if you’re active or have higher protein requirements. Protein powders, protein bars, and protein shakes can be convenient options for boosting your protein intake before or after workouts, as meal replacements, or as a quick and easy snack when you’re on the go. Opt for Protein-Rich Beverages Swap out sugary sodas and fruit juices for protein-rich beverages such as milk, almond milk, soy milk, or kefir. These dairy and plant-based beverages provide an excellent source of protein, along with essential vitamins and minerals, and can be enjoyed on their own or incorporated into smoothies, shakes, or coffee drinks. Experiment with Protein-Rich Recipes Get creative in the kitchen and experiment with protein-rich recipes to add variety and excitement to your meals. Explore new cooking techniques and flavor combinations using ingredients such as lean meats, seafood, tofu, beans, and legumes to create delicious and satisfying dishes that are bursting with protein and flavor. By incorporating these easy and delicious ways to boost your protein intake into your daily diet, you can support your health, fitness, and overall well-being. How I Ditched Wine Culture
How I Ditched Wine Culture https://ift.tt/Ck0L4Yc Get my newest freebie all about how I ditched wine culture, including how to find joy in sobriety and my favorite mocktail recipes. Hi friends! I hope that you’re having a wonderful long weekend and enjoying the day. For today’s post, I wanted to share a freebie I created for you about reducing my wine intake over time. Back in the day, it wasn’t unusual for me to have 2-3 glasses of wine each night. I also couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t sleeping well and woke up exhausted all the time. In today’s society, wine culture has become deeply ingrained in our social lives. From casual gatherings to celebratory occasions, it seems like there’s always an excuse to uncork a bottle of wine. There’s also a huge “mommy wine culture.” I’d so often hear moms in real life and on social media talk about how they use alcohol to cope with parenthood… and that was a red flag for me. Sure, I loved the warm and fuzzy feeling that a glass (or two) of wine gave me. But, I didn’t need it to enjoy life, connect with others at parties, or enjoy my children, and I decided I wanted to cut way back. I was once deeply entrenched in this culture, but I found myself questioning its impact on my health and happiness. This is the story of how I broke free, and now, I enjoy wine SO much more. It’s a rare treat, instead of a habit. How I Ditched Wine Culture Inside my newest downloadable freebie, you’ll find: My experience recognizing my habits with alcohol Making the decision to reduce regular wine alcohol consumption Strategies for reducing alcohol intake Finding joy in semi-sobriety Discovering mocktails and some of my favorite recipes DOWNLOAD HERE Disclaimer: Please note that if you suspect you have a problem with alcohol, it’s important to seek the help you deserve to recover. We recommend consulting with a therapist or doctor for guidance and support. You may also enjoy: 10 Best Spring Mocktails Blackberry Cucumber Cocktail – can make it a cocktail, too!
