Happy Hump Day Update at AA, a Sneak Preview

The days continue to buzz by in the mobile command center of AA. One project after another is finishing up, I just opened up the new Real Estate section of Addictive Angler, which has a nice classy look to it, I am still hacking it together and adding to it, but we're pretty set to start mass adding to it. It runs entirely on a separate database in hopes to not bog down any other section of the site as does its sister the new and shiny Yacht and Boat Section. Closer and closer.

Beyond that we'll have a 'new' movie re-releasing. We're re-doing a few different videos that we need to switch some music (thanks copyright monkeys) on and those will be coming out in quick succession, but the slightly bigger news is that we are working on a fishing tournament in the Maldives in celebration of their 40th year anniversary of tourism, and here is a rough draft preview of the poster art I am working on for the tourney!

Sunday Night Cock Fights, Reel Life Chicken Fights

**WARNING** This Video Contains Graphic Violence in a fight to the death between two chickens.

We previously released this video on YouTube, but it was taken down without even a moment of consideration. Without the knowledge that things like this exist then it will never change. We do not condone anything in this video, we brought this to you because this IS the world we live in and this does still happen, awareness and education are the key's to change.

The Beginning.. On Palm Sunday, Jeff and I went for a post delicious dinner walk to see what kind of trouble we could find. To our surprise we came across a rather rowdy scene for a a typically peaceful island of Colon. The shouts carried down the beach as messengers of a good time while the music eventually found its way through the cacophony of 'Fight Night' as we approached the warehouse style bar situated on the beach.

The crowd was electric, primal, and even savage. I believe the video describes it best:

Travel Guide: Bocas Del Toro, Isla Colon, Panama

When most people hear 'The Caribbean' its quickly followed The Bahama's, The Key's, ABC's, Cuba, and on and on, but one amazing spot lacking on most people's Caribbean treasure map is a majestic island chain belonging to the country of Panama - The San Blas Islands, or Bocas Del Toro to the local traveler. A misnomer, Bocas Del Toro is actually the provenance and the main island is Isle Colon which houses the airport and a familiar Caribbean vibe. 'Bocas' is a melting pot, a frequent backpacker destination as the ladies nights and drink specials are frequent, Bocas houses some iconic, scenic, and flavorful taste of food, culture, and experiences -- if you find the time, which we know you will, the fishing is pretty great as well! Fishing here is not a staple as it is in most places of Panama, The name of the game is tourism, and it thrives! The first big shocker to everyone who hits the aqua Caribbean waters is the co-op taxi. You've just lugged all your possessions in the world into the back of this guy's truck and he's stopping picking up a random person on the side of the road and is getting in scooting you over, don't worry its not bad taxi manners or someone looking for the extra buck - The taxi drivers on the island work on a fixed rate $.60 per ride, unless you are traveling beyond the city. The 'City' of colon is a sprawling metropolis for Panamanian coastal towns, but its charm lies not in its architecture, but in the character, the vibrant colors, and iconic signage. Water taxi's are the main inter island mode of transportation so be sure to befriend a driver when you get there - the best way to pick one is a sober one at 6:30 am on a Saturday. For the wild crowd 'Bocas' is never without something happening, but is not so big you can't find your own quiet niche of relaxing paradise as well. In fact we know some places that just fit - check them out here --. Another 'must' if your checking down your Addictive Angler travel list is head over to Bastimentos, see a town without any cars and take 'the back road' to Wizard beach and ultimately Red Frog beach. I've never had more fun in the mud through the jungle to find such an amazing reward at the end of the journey. Pristine, empty, sparkling, and exotic are just a few of the words I would have like to said besides 'wow', but 'wow' sums it up nicely - We stopped by Palmar Tent lodge on our way out for a beer and they have quite a cool setup for the eco-traveler

Video: Addictive Angler Presents Trinidad & Tobago

Whew #50! Well we're very stoked to announce our 50th video, its all the Varied sites and sounds of one of our favorite fishing destinations: Trinidad and Tobago! This 7 minute video started off as 300 separate clips amassed over quite a few trips which slowly but surely worked itself down to just 100 great clips. From those 100 clips of about 3 hours of unedited footage I pulled out the best 30 minutes which is where the fun began! the path from 30 minutes to 7 was grueling, I used some creativity and time dilation to cram as much in that 7 minutes as possible and we hope you'll agree!

Mark those calendars folks, on June 17th, of this fine year 2012, Addictive Angler is invoking something...unprecedented. Indeed something never done before... Now this particular section of our site is home to some colorful language, fantastic  expression of the word 'fuck' and generally an all around rowdy grouping of the tremendously terrible and the tremendous themselves. You see, we have this fucking(for aliteration sake) fantastic scale that exemplifies the 'Ass' that lies 'behind' the best, worst, and in-between. Today heralds the first day that 5 sweet asses are to be given. Why you should give a shit? Because these guys are simply amazing. Bestfriends.org, maybe more familiar to you as Dogtown. The skinny is a no kill animal shelter, however the devil in these details reveals something much, much more awesome. Imagine if you were famous and a Dog -- this is Beverly Hills, but its not all glitz and glam... The Sanctuary:

Animals end up on the short end of the stick just like us, the difference is we have a bit more ability to help them then them us and these people take that to heart. They have set up an amazing reserve for animals. Rehabilitation centers that even Amy winehouse would have come to, and not to mention their growing network helping animals everywhere - and that makes them aces in our books. Their passion shines brighter then the morning hangover sun and the worlds a damn better place for it.

This hallmark event on Addictive Angler comes at a sad moment as we celebrate one of our little family, passing. Kissy was an adorable pappion with not a care in the world, a model for living in the moment. Never without the exuberance of an eternal puppy she brought many a smile and even a few tears, but then again all great things do. Every end is a new beginning, much love kissy

4 Sweet Asses, South Caribbean Charters Review

4 Sweet Asses - Fox Sport Fishing is a relatively new player in the sport fishing market, they are based in the UK and are turning out some fine looking gear that got our attention here at Addictive Angler. So much so that we decided to grab some of it ourselves and see just how well it could hold up to the rather, vigorous, trials that come with the AA territory (Big Game Fish). Now I could go on and gush about the light weight travel rod that is still super sturdy, or the 7 foot popper specific designed rod that produces a splash and chug that would make any angler, but I definitely wouldn't write a poem about their stratos 20,000 two speed spinning reel!

It takes a lot to get 4 asses, especially 4 sweets asses! Gorgona Panama, Tranquil Fishing "Village"

Definition of CAMARADERIE : a spirit of friendly good-fellowship

Or as the local populace would say camaradería. Weather its the daily pushing and pulling of boats in and out of the water with or against the tides or its everyone sitting around enjoying an ice cold beer after a night of fishing the town of Gorgona panama gets it. The fisherman are comprised of a fleet of probably 25 pangas, small fishing skows that have mostly all seen their respective better days, but that doesn't deter this co-op. Day after day the fishing boats come and go, mostly leaving in the evenings for their overnight fishing sessions, which usually end in a wide assortment of a catch.

Saltwater Catfish are a prevalent species in the waters around Gorgona as the daily catch isn't ever without more then a handful of the whiskered. A wide variety of other fish make there way to the shores of Gorgona as we saw Snappers big and small, triple tail, Crovina, and Snook. The fish come and go quickly as everything is quickly weighed, put on ice, and then shipped out via pick-up truck delivery trucks strapped with monster coolers which make their respective ways to the surrounding towns.

Gorgona lays nestled on the central Pacific coast of Panama, about an hours drive from Albrook, or about 1.5 - 2 hours from Tocumen Airport in Panama City. Its bordered by other small beach towns which run together, the most notable is Coronado, which is a gated community. The black and white sands mix almost as frequent and erratically as the locals and obvious foreigners. Next to 13 story high rise condos live single level lean-to's, or old family concrete houses. The arrangement a snapshot of a battle field of concrete and nature.

To the east lies an unpopulated estuary with two tributaries that kicks out into the pacific creating some fantastic and private surfing waves that we saw overhead height. That was a great find, but around the estuary brought a welcomed site to us as at least 1000 birds swarmed eating the hatch from the previous night. The bay is constantly home to frigates and seagulls who seem to have one of the more consistent diets I've seen any bird have. Mid March seemed bait hatch time as Stephen Kings words fail to describe the magnitude of birds that could be seen for miles along the beach.

Overall Gorgona is a beautiful place, which is mostly home to weekending panama city residents, but the fishing as it is everywhere in panama, is top notch. There isn't much to do but relax and enjoy the beauty, but some times that just the right thing to do!

A Little Taste of Delicious in Panama, Abalone Video

The locals call them Abalone, and while the verdict is still out between abalone or oyster, all we know is they are delicious! The video depicts our good friend Max in Panama rounding up the critters off the beach and then cleaning them. They were fried up in olive oil then in a white wine butter garlic sauce. Shame we don't have smell'o'vision for this one! Enjoy!
