Cucalorus Internship Pt.2- Addie Schwab
Tumblr media
So far my internship has been an eventful experience! They have screenings most Fridays and Saturdays around 7:30pm at Jengo's Playhouse downtown, and I've gotten to help run and host those events! I've learned how to do consessions for each of the events including restocking the pop machine, candy, making popcorn, and opening up the whole building including lights, doors, changing out trashcans, and cleaning up, and just helping to make each event a welcoming and fun experience for everyone. I've also learned about the documentation that occurs for each event; we have to take headcounts of the number of attendees at each screening and make note of other stats so that the staff can report on those numbers for future reference and so they get an idea of who is engaged with what material, etc. They also use these numbers for marketing and non-profit purposes.
I am also learning about the behind-the-scenes of putting on a film festival including watching and rating incoming film submissions (several of which have been from UNCW students woop woop!), planning out the right order to show the films and how they separate them into "blocks," and even creating name tags and checking off registered attendees. I specifically helped create all the staff and guest passes for the Surfalorus film festival that took place last month in the Outer Banks! Some tasks have been more fun and engaging than others, but I am grateful for every experience in this internship because I am truly getting to see every individual piece that must come together to create a successful festival. And it's also been a blast to work alongside my fellow UNCW classmates Grace and Grayson, and meet so many people involved with film in Wilmington!
As we get closer to Cucalorus Film Festival on November 16th-20th, there is a LOT more to do and I'm ready to jump in. :)
