so i just noticed bpd and adhd have so many symptoms in common but i want to know their biggest differences? because at this point idk if i have one, the other or both. and is it possible to actually have both? thank you :)
So first a big big disclaimer is that I am not a license mental health professional. I can only provide the information that I’ve been told by other clinicians. So BPD and ADHD may look similar on paper but they end up being very very different in reality. BPDs main symptoms are based a lot around emotional insability, depression, impaired social relationships, and a lot of insecurity (to name a few). While ADHD can result in a lot of this as a comorbidity ADHD is primarily an executive function disorder. For lack of a better phrase, BPD can present as more “severe” as well. It is entirely possible to have both ADHD and BPD but I may consider looking into Autism criteria as well. This is especially the case if you have a lot of sensory issues as sensory problems is often a tell tale sign of Autism. AGAIN This is only my advice as someone who is autistic with ADHD and CPTSD. I really advise you speak to a mental health professional that specializes in either diagnostics, ADHD, personality disorders, or trauma disorders.

Do you think it can be an ADHD thing to be super indecisive? I can’t even pick a favorite color. 🙃
It’s definitely an ADHD thing!A common symptom of ADHD is decision paralysis because there’s too many options to choose from or the question is too nebulous. However the picking a favourite colour thing sounds what may fall in line with longterm masking and people pleasing behaviour.

hey if u aren't happy with your medication please talk to your doctor about trying a different prescription/dosage (or find a different doctor who listens to your concerns) before giving up on medication altogether.
there are other options, u don't have to choose bt being unmedicated & being medicated in a way that makes u unhappy

i —
this has got to the THE dumbest argument against self diagnosis I've ever heard "someone I don't know thought they had an anxiety disorder but they didn't so that's why no one should diagnose themselves with anything ever"
I diagnosed myself with ADD/ADHD, social anxiety disorder, depression, autism, Tourette's Syndrome, dyslexia, and executive dysfunction. and guess what?
I was right.
now does this suddenly mean whatever illness, disorder, or neurodivergency you think you might have you actually do? no.
I also thought I might have BPD and/or ASPD but I was led astray by symtomps of mental illnesses that I actually do have
self diagnosis is not something that is always right BUT it can lead you towards the right answer.
