Kurosawa on the set of Ran
It's really such a remarkable testament to British dramatic incompetence that a Japanese adaptation that uses even less of the original text than the abridged shitheap of British productions and that didn't even start from King Lear (initial inspiration from a legend about Mori Motonari) manages to capture the spirit of the original text with the perfect degree of nuance for each character to an extent that puts every other adaptation rightfully to shame. why do they still keep Ian McKellan around?? but ya just get the Wizman (I'm the Wiz!) to play the old dude and make it like in the crimean war or something

Frank O'Hara, Variations on the "Tree of Heaven" (In the Janis Gallery), 1959
Sitting in a corner of the gallery I notice that Albers scratches a tiny A in the lower right corner with the date and the paintings are like floodlights on my emptiness that I am out of context waiting for the place where my life exists like a tree in a meadow the warm traffic going by is my natural scenery because I am not alone there as the sky above the top floor of a tenement is nearer which is what the ancients meant by heaven to be with someone not just waiting wherever you are

Kenzo Tange, Yoyogi National Indoor Stadiums, 1964
Built for the Tokyo Summer Games in 1964, the complex consists of two indoor arenas connected by a central spine that also houses ancillary and office functions. Structural design was handled by Tsuboi Yoshikatsu and his associate Kawaguchi Mamoru, but Tange’s team participated extensively in a joint design process. The basic structure for both buildings relied on cable suspension technology developed for bridges, but as an architectural project, the challenge was to  create interior enclosures under the span. The urban aspects of Yoyogi Stadiums deserve as much notice as the project’s obvious formal virtuosity. One of the last large undeveloped tracts in central Tokyo, the stadium area was conceived as part of a ring of major open spaces in the cities dense center. The site plan extends beyond the stadium site’s boundry in the northeast corner to include a traffic intersection, a signifigant urban intervention to bring together the dense fabric of upper Shibuya and new large-scale institutional facilities such as the local ward office, the headquarters of Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NKH), and the stadiums themselves. The two spiraling tails of the stadium site provide further linkage from the upper Shibuya area to Harajuku and Meiji Shrine.

'modernist literarture' as in writers not affiliated with some particular modern movement seems to either mean women-writing-things-a-lil-dif-from-Women's-Literarture or grandiose masculinism when applied to male writers
like i assumed since Ezra Pound was a "modernist" and a fascist and an italophile that he'd be a futurist but nah hes just a Whitman nature boy + Mussolini's politics + Hemingway's masculinism + Byronic screed. i guess i tend to forget that most italian fascists just jacked off to the Colosseum and the Futurists probably hated the majority of fascists as much as they did communists
but ya after reading Exultations, Personae, Hugh Selwyn Mauberley, Ripostes (which i actually paid a dollar for bc it had a semi decent cover), and the first dozen or so Cantos I can definitively say Ezra Pound is absolute garbage
