This is the first time Iâve ever seen a Phantom cloak that had weird arm slits and the beading on separate lapels!

Ah, ok, that makes sense! Because Iâm not familiar with more âexoticâ fashions of the period, to me it reads as just flamboyantly fantastical and almost like a costume piece than a real garment someone would be seen in, hah.
Thank you for the insight! Itâs the only instance (that Iâm aware of from my research) where a manâs cloak has a hood in Phantom, so figuring out if it was a real, normal thing I didnât know about or a more exotic piece was the deciding factor to whether or not I included the hood in my gender-swapped Wishing suitâs cloak. Decision: collar it is! (My menâs Lost Dress suit also has a cloak with a collar--and Phantom-inspired beading on the cloak--but the jacket on that outfit is a tailcoat. My Wishing suit will have more of a frock coat style under the cloak.)
Thanks again for the help!
I know LefĂšvre's very flamboyant cloak has a hood, but is that historically a thing? The length is often right for a Victorian men's dress cloak (mid-calf), but I've only ever seen a Victorian men's cloak with a collar, never a hood. Was this purposefully designed to be extra flamboyant, or was it pulled straight out of historic designs? I ask because I'm designing a men's version of the Wishing gown + cloak. Trying to figure out if I need to ditch the hood for a collar or can keep it!
My gut feeling tells me itâs supposed to be a Victorian take on âorientalâ, I.E. the Eastern or Southern countries around the Mediterranean, where anything from these regions were seen as fashionable, exotic and novelty. The long shape and pointed hood, sometimes with a tassel, reminds me a lot of the Moroccan âburnooseâ, a signature garment of the Berbers. Without the arm slits, but still giving the same vibes. Showing here:

So yeah, kinda flamboyant in taste, but the âexoticâ was also fashionable for a stage man of the era, and also gives a hint of a man whoâs traveled the world and visits more cities than FRANKFURT. Rather in sync with the Phantomâs Mandarin robe worn in the first lair scene.

THIS IS MORE THAN I COULD HAVE EVER HOPED FOR JKBGJHD BK FGBF Â DGRGDR
Really hope Iâm able to see this show. I need to see these costumes in person!
Hi hello, I saw your Be More Chill post while searching the Squip tag because NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT THE SQUIPS NEW COSTUMES?!?! After seeing the curtain call, I DESPERATELY need to cosplay the Squip's final look. Would you mind being the person who finally talks about the Squip's costumes in as much detail as you'd like? :D
okay hi so Iâm a big costume nerd usually more than anything. I was going to include a whole section about the Squipâs costumes in my review but decided against it in case anyone thought it was too spoiler-y. So SPOILERS FOR BE MORE CHILL OFF-BROADWAY, I GUESS??
