Ranking the New Who (2006- Present day) Doctors from Doctor Who
It is all opinion based.
Introduction
My Ranking here is purely based on my opinion. I have been a die-hard Doctor Who fan since I was young. I have not yet seen all of Old Who yet but with it making its way onto BBC Iplayer I can guarantee it will not be long until I am in a position to rank all of the Classic Doctors as well.
For the sake of this ranking list I will not be including actors such as Jo Martin as the Fugitive doctor or John Hurt as the War Doctor. While both of these prove to be excellent versions of the doctor in their own right, I am only basing my ranking off actors with a series/season or more. With that being said, let's go!
Number 6: The 13th Doctor, Jodie Whittaker
It will come as no surprise to anyone that I have placed Jodie at the bottom of the list, afterall she is placed at the bottom of pretty much everyone’s lists. I will say; however, that Jodie does have some okay episodes that I wouldn’t mind watching again, such as Rosa.
A lot of where I felt Jodie’s episodes fell flat was in the writing. The characters tended to be rather 1 dimensional and honestly just unlikable. This partnered with plots which had far too much going on, leading to a pretty bland and unenjoyable season.
A stand out point for me was Revelation of the Daleks, though even episodes like that were not enough to help Jodie’s series. (I know a lot of people hate that episode).
I think Jodie is an amazing actress, and given the correct script she can do an amazing stand out performance. Her series; however, was not this stand out performance.
Number 5: The 12th Doctor, Peter Capaldi
This one is probably going to rattle a lot of people’s feathers. Capaldi is a very enjoyable Doctor and I, personally, know a lot of people who hold him as their favourite. Put simply, Capaldi brought a new light to the character which was very refreshing indeed.
I know I am probably going to get a lot of slander for this, but I cannot watch Heaven Sent without getting bored. Don’t get me wrong, the episode is pretty much terrifying. Capaldi did an excellent job and the concept is amazing. I just wasn’t fond of the whole monologue thing that ran throughout Capaldi’s performance as the Doctor and this episode was 100% monologue.
Capaldi’s episodes are fun and his companions are likeable. I extremely love Bill, and when she got turned into a cyberman I was horrified.
That being said, I have seen Capaldi’s run a few times and I don’t think I can remember half of what happened throughout his series. There are some very low points such as Forest in the night, but then there are also some amazing high points such as Listen.
Overall, Capaldi just wasn’t my favourite Doctor.
Number 4: The 15th Doctor, Ncuti Gatwa
Our latest Doctor brought back a lot of much needed fun for Doctor Who. Having followed David Tennant as the 14th Doctor (who I will not be including on this list as he only had 3 episodes), Ncuti had some big boots to fill.
While the episodes were airing, I enjoyed looking out for Susan Twist easter eggs, and I still want to know what is going on with Mrs Flood (Is she Clara? Will we ever know?).
A lot of this series was rather Doctor light, however. Millie Gibson as Ruby essentially carried the show, that being said there was only 1 episode I don’t think i'll rewatch and that is Space Babies. (And maybe Dot and Bubble…)
I think Boom was one of the best episodes ever aired.
It is safe to say that Doctor Who is once again on an upwards trajectory, and I am excited for Christmas for the next episode!
Number 3: The 10th Doctor, David Tennant
How to rattle a few feathers. I adore Tennant as the Doctor, as I am sure a lot of you do. I don’t think there is much bad I can say about him. His episodes were emotional, and funny, and exactly what Doctor Who is.
I think we're Tennant fails, is once again in companions.
Okay, hear me out. Martha is better than Rose!
She’s more clever than her, more daring and overall just a better character.
Rose was great with Eccleston, but with Tennant she comes across as a love struck teenager who is jealous of everyone who threatens her relationship with him. She did that with Eccleston as well (as seen with Lynda with a Y) but it was a lot worse when she was with Tennant.
Martha, as a character, struggled because of Rose. She had a crush on the Doctor, which to be honest was a bit tiring after Rose. I will say though, that Tennant is good looking and clever, which is very attractive in a man.
Donna was a breath of fresh air. She was just his mate. That is what we needed. She slapped him, and put him in his place and really proved her worth as his companion.
There are some really good episodes in Tennant’s run (Such as Doomsday, The Satan Pit and Blink) and then there were some really bad episodes (Love and Monsters, Fear Her, The Idiot’s Lantern, 42). While some of the previous Doctor’s also had bad episodes, Tennant’s bad episodes are not unwatchable, which is why he is so high up in this list.
Number 2: The 11th Doctor, Matt Smith
I would like to remind everyone that this is opinion based and that is why Matt Smith is not number 1 here.
I loved all of Smith’s run as the Doctor. His companions partnered with him brilliantly (apart from Clara but she paired very well with Capaldi). For someone so bright and bubbly, Smith’s version of the Doctor was extremely dark.
It was nice to have companions in the show which were almost allowed to have a normal life as well. We got that a bit more later on with Clara being able to still be a teacher and Bill being a student at the same time as travelling with the doctor, but this was the first time the companions weren’t on the Tardis full time.
Also… River Song. I’ve met Alex Kingston. She is a lovely woman, and her portrayal of the role of River Song is incredible.
Number 1: The 9th Doctor, Christopher Eccleston
What is with all the 9 hate? He managed to bring back a character which was last seen on our screen 9 years prior in 1996. It was a big task. Eccleston and Billie Piper brought this show back onto our screen, and without them (and RTD) we wouldn’t have Doctor Who today.
Let me unpack the episodes though, as I know a lot of you want me to comment on the fart jokes and bad CGI in Aliens of London and World War 3.
We have a 13 episode run here, (Technically 10 if you count the 2 parters as 1 entity) and there isn’t a single episode in its run that I would skip.
The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances are some of the best episodes in the entire show. Partner that with amazing episodes such as Dalek and you have a great show. Even when the budget was running out and we got Boom Town, it was enjoyable. (For the record Boom Town is one of my favourite episodes).
But okay, let's talk about the Slytheen and then we will move onto the Mighty Jagrafess of the Holy Hadrojassic Maxarodenfoe.
Aliens of London and World War 3 are meant to be fun episodes. We just had dark episodes. Shop window dummies killing people, the planet Earth dying and Gwen sacrificing herself. It was time for a little bit of potty humour. Also, just remember that Rose had been missing for a year and Jackie slapped the Doctor for it. That was good.
While people don’t like The Long Game very much, it does a brilliant job of story building. Without it, we wouldn’t have gotten our finale. I think that is the only episode in this entire series, however, that I don’t really enjoy watching and it's all Adam’s fault.
This series also introduces us to Captain Jack, who (to this day) remains one of the best Doctor Who characters, even with how he returned in Whittaker’s run.
Conclusion
Well that is my list. I know people are going to want to argue with it and disagree with it. That is alright. You are entitled to your own opinion.  9 has a special place in my heart, and no matter how good any of the other Doctors are, I don’t think they will be able to top him for me… I think he is kind of run by nostalgia and by the fact every time I rewatch Doctor who I start with Rose.
Maybe I will do a blog talking about enemies, or companions. Or Maybe I could rank episodes in a specific series. Sorry for my massive rant. I hope you enjoyed it.

Given that Stolas prances around in a robe, naked underneath it... Id say he sleeps in the nude
So does Stolas always sleep in the nude or...did he and his wife have fun the previous night?
