What would the wedding invites on Game of Thrones look like?
Valar Morghulis.
It has been almost a month since the controversial season 5 finale of Game of Thrones, but we at AdLibitum Creatives are still hungover and reeling now more so since the announcements at San Diego Comic Con (more on that later)!
As our way of grieving, coping with the feels, July became our Post GoT Withdrawal Month, and we have turned to our favorite hobby: lettering!
Because one thing we noticed is that in their world driven by power and politics, weddings occur frequently and swiftly. It made us wonder something we don’t get to see on the show: what do their wedding invites look like? More specifically, what would those invites look like if they happened in the modern world, our world?
*DISCLAIMER: Spoilers ahead for those who have not yet watched the show up to season 5.
Sansa Stark & Ramsay Bolton
Tumblr media
Perhaps the most controversial wedding pairing of the entire show. Sansa marrying Ramsay was not written in the books, and I think we speak for all fans that this is not something we wanted to see happen (no one deserves to marry Ramsay--except maybe Myranda).
Our theme was simple, dark and bleek: very much like the characters and Winterfell at this point on the show. We imagined it would be a simple invite as the wedding was quick and maybe invites were only a formality for the few that attended. It also doesn’t indicate any hint of happiness: this is not that kind of wedding.
Tommen Baratheon & Margaery Tyrell
Tumblr media
It’s hard to remember that Tommen is a Baratheon because it’s now so hard to unsee him as a Lannister.
Tumblr media
But anyway, we’d imagine Margaery making all the aesthetic decisions for this one, just because Tommen is so naive and easily persuaded. It is colorful and lively, predominantly featuring flowers (guess we know who wears the pants in their relationship). We wanted to show the grandeur and ambition of the Tyrells to take the crown for themselves.
Daenerys Targaryen & Khal Drogo
Tumblr media
The one and only Essos wedding we’ve witnessed so far in the series deserves an invite--even if it is to a Dothraki Wedding. Yes, the Dothraki won’t need invites, nor do they write so this is totally for Dany’s side of the entourage only. We imagine this is how Ser Jorah came to attend.
Tumblr media
We, of course, had to go with a dragon theme for the background, and the entire theme is simple and hand-made looking. They’re in the desert so we don’t think there is much else to work with.
Renly Baratheon & Loras Tyrell
Tumblr media
We couldn’t pass up the chance to make an invite for one of our favorite pairings on Game of Thrones.
No, they didn’t get married. But just imagine the festivities if they did. What’s more, Renly appropriately had his Rainbow Guard (which is not, by the way, a reference to his sexuality--just a coincidence!) which just makes for a colorful theme!
Tumblr media
In this scenario, Renly is king and would be superior in rank to Loras, but both seem equal here. The rainbow is a reminder that their union is blessed by the Light of the Seven!

AdLibitum Creatives: Who We Are
Tumblr media
AdLibi--wha?
Hullo, if you’re reading this right now, it may be because you are asking this to yourself.
AdLibitum Creatives is a design studio dedicated in creating one-of-a-kind pieces, ranging from invites, posters to greeting cards for all fandoms and occasions!
Currently, AdLibitum Creatives is comprised of a duo, Michelle & Raisa, and we love the idea of weddings, invites, posters and everything geeky.
Ad Libitum is actually the name of our barkada (Filipino for “group of friends”) that we coined in 2006. “Ad libitum” is a Latin phrase meaning “at one’s pleasure.” Our group has similar yet diverse personalities and our interests are ever-changing. We realized that we did just whatever the heck we wanted, and that the phrase “at one’s pleasure” just made sense. The fact that we chose a Latin phrase is credited to the fact that a.) we are nerds and b.) we are obsessed with Harry Potter / J.K. Rowling’s way of naming things.
And we realized, as we were trying to decide what we wanted to create, that we did not want to be limited to just one type of thing, through one type of medium. We don’t expect our content to be always the same as we will learn, grow and expand our creative horizons. So it seemed appropriate, and also unique.
So whether you are looking for an invite for a wedding (that may or may not be Game of Thrones inspired), a motivational poster or greeting cards that you can geek out about, we are your new go-to designers and resident fangirls.
After all, things are much happier and brighter when we go about things at our pleasure and we’re here to help you with that.
