Week Nine

My last day at Cochrane Design! I am so grateful to have the opportunity to be able to work with the company! I have learned a lot from the team as well as expand my knowledge and I can proudly say I have had such an amazing experience. The team have also been absolutely lovely and I feel as though I am already part of the team! I hope one day I get to be part of a team as talented and lovely as they are!

Week Nine

As it is my last week at Cochrane Design, I have been adding some slight changes to the past photoshop elevations I have done for the Mayfair project. I have enjoyed doing photoshop elevations as it gives me the chance to expand my skills on the software, and be able to produce concept designs before they renovate the room.

As well as photoshopping elevations, my other tasks would be to obtain the trade and retail prices for the products they will purchase.

Week Nine

So it is my last week at Cochrane Design! I had such a great experience and I have learned quite a lot while working for the company.

Today, Danielle gave me quick job by completing a cutting sheet for another one of the company’s current projects. Completing a cutting sheet means that they make sure they have the right material before the designer starts to create the sofa. My task was to take a sample of the material that had been delivered to the office and attach it to the cutting sheet, so that it can be sent to the designers who will fabricate the sofa.

For the rest of the day, my colleagues have asked me to photoshop another bathroom elevation for the Mayfair project.

This week, Elle has given me a new bathroom elevation. She wanted to see what the bathroom will look like with a lighter or darker wall color and which type of marble for the shower will look better.

This concept elevation is the second version of the bathroom. Elle decided to change the color of the vanity to a lime green color. I quite like this version better in comparison to the first version with the darker vanity, as it gives the bathroom a fresh and classy appearance.

Week 5

This week, I have been asked to photoshop another elevation for the Mayfair project. This time, my task was to help create a concept design for the WC 3.

I have enjoyed these past few weeks as I have been asked to design renders more each week, as this allows me to see what the room will look before they renovate the building. After visiting the site a few weeks ago, it is very intriguing imagining each floor as I am rendering the AutoCAD elevations.

Photoshop takes a very long time to do but I have fun doing it! I can definitely say it is one of my strengths when creating concept designs and I and my colleagues are quite proud of how each of my elevations turn out.

I am looking forward to creating more concept designs for the project next week after Easter break!

On days where I’m not too busy, I get asked to collect items from shops around London. Although the tube gets a little hectic sometimes, I quite enjoy walking and it gives me a chance to explore the city more!

Today, Emily and Olivia asked me to go to Harrods and Harvey Nichols to fetch some little gifts for clients.

Week 3 - Day Three & Four

22 & 23 March 2017

This week, I was asked to work on the AutoCAD file for the project in Mayfair. My colleague, Danielle, gave me a task and my job was to add the dimensions and flooring on the floorplans. This is so that it is easy for us to call the suppliers for the materials we plan to use for each floors.

At first, I was unsure about getting back into AutoCAD as it has been a year since I used the software, but I was able to easily do the task efficiently. Getting back into using AutoCAD, I am starting to remember how to use it (with the help of another intern.) :)

Overall this week, I have been given more tasks and this enables me to learn new things. I am enjoying the experience so far and each week I am more dedicated to step out of my comfort zone.

Week 2 - Day Five

After visiting the project at Belgravia, Claire asked me to create a mood board/inspiration page for their next project at Mayfair.

The area I focused on is located on the basement. It was my job to examine the Bathroom and the Guest Suite (shown on the second floorplan). This floor will be the nanny room.

Week 2 - Day Two

Today I visited another site that the company will be working on, located in Mayfair. In the morning, we spent a couple of hours analyzing the existing building, and checking to see if any areas needed fixing and which walls would be taken down.

I watched how the designers analyzed the building and what changes they would like to make. They took concept photos of each room on each floors and talked about how and where the furniture will be placed. Looking through their floor plans, the designers, Elle and Claire made sure the walls will be able to be taken down and windows replaced.

Overall, the site visit gave me quite a few ideas of how designers thought about building regulations and how they examine an existing building.

Week 2 - Day One

On the first day of the second week, I had the chance to go back to the Belgravia project. The furniture's were being delivered and it was my job to help unpack and store them in the closets before the flooring and walls are finished.

Week 1 - Day Four & Five

09 - 10 March 2017

On the 4th day, I was asked to locate Chelsea Harbor Design Center to fetch some sample materials for a current project the company is working on (Hotel es Vive in Ibiza).

For the rest of the day, I have mostly been asked to research for bespoke furniture for the company’s current projects and design inspirations for interiors such as, bathrooms and kitchens.

On the 5th day, I went to a site visit in Belgravia. It was very interesting to see the building being renovated and watch how everything is put together. Elle and Claire are the designers who make sure the building is up to date and the process is running smoothly. They made sure that there were nothing missing and that everything was in place.
