I cannot express how proud and happy I am that I got to be the part of this project! It's taught me so much, but, more importantly, I just had a great time working and simply existing alongside all the amazing artists for these past few months. I shall miss this incredibly supportive and welcoming community that I came to hold dear to my heart, but I do believe there are many more beautiful things yet to come!
I've done six frames for this, and I will post them here very soon, but I also greatly encourage everyone to go and check the frames on the website, they are all so gorgeous and unique!
Endless compliments to the 173 amazing artists who poured their hearts into this.💛
Here's what we made, with love:
Check out all the frames closely: https://sites.google.com/view/the-best-frames-we-know/home?authuser=1
#special shoutout to our wonderful Ez who deserves the sun and the moon for her tremendous work!#seriously she held it all together through some serious hardships#so all the love to Ez!#as well as the rest of the artists I hope you know you're amazing and I want to kiss every single one of you on the nose#now it's time to celebrate#yay!!!#thebestframesweknow#the best frames we know#dead boy detectives#save dead boy detectives#dbda#edwin payne#charles rowland#payneland#edwin x charles#artists on tumblr

Allow me to introduce... DBDA (but it's ABBA musical)

...and they teased each other happily ever after.
For the event A Year at the Agency by @savethedeadboys, The Future.
(I cannot believe I actually did it, it's so silly, but this idea has been haunting me for too long)

It started as a joke, but I kind of became invested in the process...
I imagine them bonding over being married to their jobs. They synchronize their lunch breaks, but since none of them can eat, they spend time chatting instead. The Notary talks about her children (those that "graduated" under her jurisdiction), and the Postman shares how proud he is of his (the ones he delivers mail to). For both of them the job comes first, and they respect that in each other.

hello!
I just wanted to say I love you Dead Boy Detectives art! thank you so much for sharing your work! 💕
me seeing your work:
Ahhh, thank you! So far making art for this fandom has been nothing but incredibly rewarding! I have tons of ideas, I like it here, so I'm not going anywhere in the foreseeable future. I'm currently busy with a project to do something proper, but here, have this little piece as a token of my appreciation! You literally made me smile for days <З

They are doomed in every universe...

...even if it's a School Theatre Kids!AU.
As you can probably tell, Charles struggles with the whole a-plague-o'-both-your-houses thing. In this AU he *never quite finished* Romeo and Juliet and didn't realise the role of Edwin's best mate would entail losing to Monty, describing his injuries in gruesome detail and also blaming them on Edwin. Niko makes up for the lost lines by casually mentioning to Edwin on more than one occasion that she has a very cute and totally single brother, so everything is aces (except for Crystal's sanity, but that's another story entirely).
Day 6 of @paynelandpromptfest, star-crossed.

Obsessed with you DBDA TRICKS writing! It is so well written and feels so in character even just form the snippets! Do you have an Ao3 or anything we can follow you on?
Oh my goodness, thank you so much, it means the world to me!
I do have an Ao3 (it's also Aegis_Noctua) but for now I only post a long-haul translation from English, and it's going to be quite some time before I finish either of two DBDA stories I'm working on. The tag game was supposed to trick me into writing more actively and it definitely worked thanks to you, wonderful people. I'd probably never have dared to actually write and post something in English since it's not my native language and I constantly worry I don't feel it well enough, but then this fandom happened, so now we're doing it, I guess? I'll definitely post all links here when I finish, tho!

Apparently, this fandom also got me back into writing, so I decided to pick up an open tag from @babyseraphim and share some snippets from my drafts. The word is TRICKS:
T – The quickest and probably the safest way to the office is through a mirror, but Charles is not eager to use one. Not after he screwed up so badly they both ended up in a ghost trap.
R – "Repetitio est mater studiorum," says Edwin primly, and Charles cannot help but smile. For a split second he imagines it vividly — them, together, at St. Hilarion. Sharing a dorm, going down for breakfast, passing notes during classes. Him, dragging Edwin out to spend the day outside instead of being locked up in the stifling classroom. Edwin, lecturing him for yet again putting off his homework which isn't due in forever. Them, together, staying at school for the Easter holidays. Messing around. Carefree. Alive.
I – It's cold outside. It's that time of year, he thinks miserably. Charles cannot feel the freezing touch of the upcoming winter on his skin, not anymore, but it's somehow even worse. Instead, it clutches him deep inside and squeezes, squeezes until he is shuddering, trying to shake off the suffocating memories.
C – "Can you read it out loud?" he asks without opening his eyes. Charles knows he shouldn't indulge in this fantasy. He does it anyways.
K – "Knowing that I may as well be his last chance to move on peacefully, why would you persist? Why would you wish to keep him here, bound to you, frozen in time, forever lost?"
S – So he carries Edwin home through the city streets dusted with snow.
I don't really know anyone yet, so I'm as well offering an open tag for everyone who wants to join. Let's do it with PATCHES.

Today marked exactly ten years since I've met one of my best friends, truly a Charles to my Edwin, so I wanted something to remember it by, even if it's just a silly doodle of her initial reaction to my absolute favourite moment that I showed her while trying to (successfully) rope her into watching DBDA. Hopefully we will also make it to 35 years together and then some!

DBDA Character Appreciation Week: Charles Rowland

I feel like we can learn so much about empathy and compassion from Charles:
— if someone responds to pain and horrors with a smile, it doesn't mean they don't care or they are not hurting inside; — those who always try to help others are often in desperate need of help themselves; — everybody was at a point in their lives when they could use a friend, even in face of a stranger, and this little touch of kindness can very well save a life; — openly showing love to other people can be as much healing for you as it is for them; — if you try to see the good in people and tell them about it, they may eventually see it themselves and become better and more confident because of it; — sooner or later, one way or another, the good you do will come back to you; — it takes a lot of courage to stand against your friends when they're being cruel, but it's the right thing to do; — where you come from matters, but it's where you choose to go that defines you.
Charles is probably my favourite one of the bunch. I am very grateful to everybody who put themselves into shaping and portraying this character for allowing me to step into his shoes and see things from his perspective. We do not have much in common, but I happen to have people resembling him in my life, very close and dear people. I think I may understand them a little bit better now thanks to him. And even though sometimes taking care of them can be hard and challenging, it's so much worth it.

DBDA Character Appreciation Week: Edwin Payne

What I wouldn't give to meet a character like Edwin when I was a child. To grow up knowing that:
— being nerdy and bookish is not a flaw but an advantage; — you can be insecure but also VERY self-absorbed at the same time; — feeling insecure and isolated doesn't mean you can't voice your opinion and stand your ground; — openly showing kindness is not a sign of vulnerability; — being bullied and disconnected from your peers doesn't make you inadequate or any less worthy; — even after what feels like an eternity of confining within your headspace there are still things to discover about yourself, and this self-exploration can be liberating in many ways; — falling in love can very well be as scary as it is uplifting; — it's okay to tell your very caring and dear friend you love them, there is a great chance they won't hate you afterwards, and you can even become better friends because of it; — your home being a nerd office and your family being a best friend is still valid, as long as it makes you happy; — there is nothing wrong with indulging your interests, however weird they may be, there will be a way to apply them when you grow up; — "real grown-ass" job can still be fun, satisfying and enabling to fulfill your childhood dreams; — loneliness isn't necessarily the price you have to pay for remaining true to yourself; — it's okay to rely on your friends when you're struggling with communication, you can learn a great deal from them along the way and feel secure while doing so; — somewhere in this world there is a person who will look at your bitchy, inconvenient personality and say, "this is perfect"; — you may have to suffer greatly before you meet them though, so never give up.
...and as my close friend said, "of course you relate to Edwin, learning to read in ancient Aramaic out of pure stubbornness is so you," so there is also that, I guess.
And even though I'm not a child anymore, I'm still glad I got to know him and feel better about myself and the world around me because of it.

The Best Frames Ever Project
Okay, the moment I learned about it I put all the other stuff I'm working on aside and dived right in, and it turned out to be. So. Much. Fun! As far as I know, there are still some unclaimed frames, so it's not too late to hop in! Come join our bunch of lovely artists who work on recreating the Hug Scene from the 5th Episode. You'll get a lot of love and appreciation as well as some feedback if needed. But more importantly, when people keep doing the same thing over, and over, and over again, it kinda pushes you into being even more creative, seeking out non-obvious solutions and thinking out of the box. I've only had time to do two frames, but I can tell I've grown immensely as an artist while working on them. I'm sharing some snippets for now, but please, wait for the moment when the project will go live, the works I've seen so far are outright stunning, and dbda fandom is gonna be overflowing with beautiful art pieces when everything is finished!
