Woe, Plague Be Upon Ye (WIP)
Never thought I'd be painting Death Guard but roommate picked up a kill team box so here we are. I like painting them! my bottle of agrax earthshade dried out a bit and comes out a little thicker and muddier than it should, usually annoying but here I just leaned into it.
Process below
Whole model primed black
Armor: Base coat of Death Guard Green > shade with Agrax > Reestablish base coat with DGG on flat areas > highlight with Elysian Green > small spot highlights with VERY THIN flash gitz yellow. Might mix Elysian and Flash Gitz incrementally for volumetric highlights going forward if I'm feeling ambitious, but idk if there are any large enough flat spots to show it off.
Ridged Tubes/Between armor plates: Naggaroth Night > Druchii Violet > drybrush with Xereus Purple > Nuln Oil(it was looking too bright). Going for a bruised color, still working this one out.
Trim: Sycorax Bronze > Agrax. Simple as.
Chainmail/Smooth Tubes: Iron Warriors > Leadbelcher > Runefang Steel > Agrax. Probably would be fine without the Iron Warriors coat.
Leather Straps: Didn't have any brown paint, so I mixed Cadian Fleshtone, Agrax Earthshade, Khorne Red, Averland Sunset and Abaddon Black until it looked alright. Used the rest on the base followed by Agrax.
Grenades: Khorne Red
Goggles: White Scar > Flash Gitz Yellow
Boils: White Scar (for contrast) > Averland Sunset > Agrax Earthshade > Averland Sunset > Highlight with Flash Gitz Yellow.
Horns: Ushabti Bone > Agrax > Ushabti Bone > Wraithbone
Blood: Flesh Tearers Red. I know there's a technical paint for this purpose but the contrast paint works fine for me.
Nurgling: Thin Cadian Fleshtone > Elysian Green > HEAVY Agrax Earthshade> Elysian Green highlights > Wraithbone on eyes and mouth > Flesh Tearers Red on mouth and hands.

I'm still painting 40k btw, but I told myself I wouldn't buy any more eldar until the ones I have are all painted. It's just windriders from the old combat patrol left. I hate them. Like don't get me wrong they look great but all the angles and edges and the pilot and markings and extra bits to glue on uggghhhhh...

Farseer complete! Really happy with how the galaxy pattern on the cloak interior turned out, though a lot of it ended up getting covered up. Again I'll repost this mini when I get the right lighting set up again

Stripped paint off my half-finished Guardians so I can paint them as Altansar instead of Saim-Hann as I originally planned. And now it's got me thinking about lore...
Saim-Hann wild riders on a diplomatic visit to Altansar when the eye of terror opened. Honor-bound to remain there and fight as the warp dragged it in. Centuries later, still wearing red, the occasional white helmet spotted in a squad. Still centuries later, those colors become rarer and rarer: some perished, but others repainted their armor themselves. Did they do it as a gesture of unity with their comrades? Or as a final acceptance that here is the only place they can ever hope to find companionship again?
Milennia pass, and Altansar is freed. One night a sole remaining rider in red departs through the webway. Returns to his home. He is older than even an eldar should be, and they scarcely remember him. Still, they celebrate. He pretends their boisterousness doesn't make him wince. They pretend not to see the unfamiliar runes thrice-etched on every surface of his once-familiar armor. The celebration ends and he tries to settle back into routine. They pretend not to stare at him. He pretends not to notice. He goes out riding, like he used to. Tries to join in the howling exhilaration of his companions, and still cannot raise his voice above a whisper. The wide, open plains make him paranoid without a wall to his back. He pretends he's just rusty, that he'll settle back in in time. He pretends he is the same as when he left. He pretends he is home now. After a week, he stops pretending: he leaves his white helmet at the foot of his bed, wordlessly, and rides the webway home again in black, maroon and bone.

Maugan Ra painted! I stuck pretty close to the box art for him but I'm happy with how he turned out. Will post more pics if I get a better lighting setup.
