trc characters & their music taste: a series of playlists 

gansey: music that either SOUNDS like it’s from the sixties, or is actually from the sixties. cool dad music & surf rock. probably half the songs could be used in the soundtrack for a wes anderson movie. just picture him driving the pig with “wouldn’t it be nice” by the beach boys blaring out the summery windows. also a lil jazz bc he’s a nerd.

adam: a perplexing mix of indie music from the 90′s & early 2000′s, along with folk & chamberpop, and a carefully curated selection of songs from the 80′s (think the cure or joy division). a SMALL portion of his music library includes recent indie & alternative music. almost all of it is at least slightly melancholy. occasionally he listens to bluegrass

noah: listens to Typical Skater Boi music from the early to mid 2000′s. also into pop punk, and occasionally alternative rock and lo fi- mostly for the song titles like “lonely boy goes to a rave.”

blue: indie rock, lo fi, and angry girl music. her music taste ranges from frankie cosmos to bikini kill, and beyond. she and ronan can weirdly agree on music as long as she only plays the punk girl bands she listens to when she’s pissed off. she also listens to indie pop upon occasion (especially if the songs are about girl power in some way) 

ronan: electronica, mostly. he listens to a lot of obnoxious electronica- mostly to annoy people- but by himself he listens to new garage, future bass, and even some electropop. SECRETLY listens to irish folk & punk when he’s in a very good mood. 

henry: 80′s pop, electropop, and alternative pop. OCCASIONALLY underground rap. you can ALWAYS count on henry to have something worth dancing to- even if it’s a super cheesy song from the 80′s (think rock lobster by the b52′s level of cheesy). ronan would be embarrassed to even let him TOUCH the aux cord in the BMW.

concept playlists;

you’re lying on mossy forest floors, slowly transforming into a nymph, your fingers are turning into flower vines, your limbs are bleeding honey & growing thick skins of sepia bark, wings sprout in between your shoulder blades. your breath sounds like the wind. fireflies litter the air above you

you’re hold up in an abandoned church, outside there’s a raging storm & a horde of zombies roaming around, pressing up against the entrance doors. you & a small band of survivors are staying inside for the night in hopes to ride the bad weather out. you take first watch & listen to these tunes on an old ipod while everyone else tries to get some rest & the undead crawl outside, awaiting the taste of human flesh.

you’re in your boyfriend’s pickup. he’s asleep in the passenger seat, you’re driving without a destination in mind & you have the window down as you let the cool night air whip against your face in a state of pleasant delirium you’re on a rooftop somewhere, there’s 5 am air on your skin, streetlights glint like coins at the bottom of wishing wells from where you sit. you’re feeling peaceful for the first time all week

you’re lying in the middle of a crop circle forty miles from your grandma’s old house waiting for aliens to come and abduct you

it’s four pm in the afternoon and you’ve got your head in the lap of the only boy you’ve ever loved & you’re reading jane eyre & he’s sipping on tea & it’s the kind of weather where it’s just warm enough for you to pretend it’s summer & it’s drizzling & you’re listening to the rain beat softly against the windowpanes you’re curled up in bed as it pours outside, there’s a citywide blackout and the last candle you had left has finally blown out, but you feel strangely at peace within the warm, all-consuming dark

you’re making out in the bathroom of a house party with someone that makes you feel like you’ve swallowed the sun you’re standing amidst a city you burned to the ground. the apocalypse has come & gone. all that’s left is ashes & mortar & sad bones but you’re feeling empowered. a slow smile creeps up your lips as you realize how you’ve always wanted to watch the world burn you wander into wonderland and now you’re suddenly being crowned fairie queen, apparently there’s a prophecy waiting to be fulfilled  it’s mid morning but it’s dark outside from the rain. you thought the tapping on the window was from the rain but it’s actually a crow that flickers out of sight when you look directly at it you’re sipping on cherry cola by the pool on a lazy sunday & you’re feeling younger than you’ve ever been you’re summoning old ghosts in an abandoned parking lot on a smoggy thursday night

In following the previous posts, @polliniaa made this post, which inspired me to make three All For the Game ‘TV Soundtracks’. They’ve since been updated and improved! The playlist includes lines from varying chapters, but not defined into episodes, and the music is all linked to the atmosphere surrounding that particular moment. The King’s Men is the climax and ending of our story. Neil Josten has always been told to keep running, to never trust anyone and to never reveal who he really is, and though he’s tried to remember his mother’s dying words, the Palmetto State Foxes have changed him as a person, and changed his perception of what kind of life he really wants to live. This final series shows him as a changing person, learning to accept help, accept a familial love he’s never experienced, and begin to deny the fact that he won’t make it through the year. Neil looked down at the key in his hand. “Home”, he whispered, needing to hear it aloud. It was a foreign concept to him, an impossible dream. It was frightening and wonderful all at once, and it set his heart racing so fast he thought it’d drum out of his chest. “Welcome home, Neil.”

Andrew Minyard didn’t look like much in person, blonde and five feet even, but Neil knew better. Andrew was the Foxes’ freshman goalkeeper and their deadliest investment. Most of the Foxes were self-destructive, whereas Andrew seemed keen on collateral damage.

Now that number was gone, covered up by the jet-black image of a chess piece. Neil’s knowledge of chess was hazy at best, but he knew for sure that wasn’t a king. “You did it,” Neil said, too stunned to manage anything else. 

“Let Riko be King,” Kevin said, with the exaggerated enunciation of the thoroughly sloshed. “Most coveted, most protected. He’ll sacrifice every piece he has to protect his throne. Whatever. Me?” Kevin gestured again, meaning to indicate himself but too drunk to get his hand higher than his waist. “I’m going to be the deadliest piece on the board." 

"Queen,” Andrew said somewhere behind Neil.
