Some important informations.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to let you know that, as you may have noticed from the presence of the last post, this blog isn't dead. It's just that the collages will appear much less frequently, because I simply have a lot of work to do in my personal and professional life. In addition to creating these collages, I also have other hobbies and am active on several other websites. So you know, I wouldn't want to neglect my activity in these areas plus I don't want to force myself to create collages, as this is supposed to be my little hobby. I thought I'd let you know about this, so you don't have to wonder why the gaps between posts are so long. 🤗

🎨 Art Hoe – aesthetic based around a love for art, a connection to nature, painting and flowers. It's symbolized by African American women who love art and nature. This style was first created by Tumblr user sensitiveblackperson. Famous people that follows this style include actress Amandla Stenberg, stylist Rian Phin, illustrator and musician Jenelle Lewis and rapper Babeo Baggins. This style later branched out to include both genders and all nationalities who appreciate both art and nature and currently it's not only African American women's aesthetic. Typical Art Hoe fashion items include:

Fjallraven Kånken Bags;

Anything associated with "Art" culture or things printed with artists' works on them;

Mom jeans;

Graphic tees;

Converse sneakers of any colour;

Art socks;

Art supplies, paint;

Art Hoes loves vintage aesthetic, often sopping at thrift stores, Urban Outfitters, and even some lesser-known fashion brands. DIY is also popular among Art Hoes and you can easily find people that follows this style, who are painting or embroidering their designs on their clothing. As name suggests, this aesthetic involves various forms of visual art and nature. This includes Polaroid pictures, plants (mainly ivy and succulents), acrylic paints and Copic markers. Art Hoe style usually also features pictures of girls in nature as well, specifically girls known to like nature. This community is also characterized by its strong support for non-mainstream artists, allowing unconventional and alternative music styles to thrive. This artists, which often uses innovative approaches to music, resonate deeply with Art Hoes. Notable aspect of this style's music scene is the formation of "cult" fanbases around these non-mainstream artists. These passionate communities actively promote and celebrate their favorite musicians and their works. Art Hoes also have subgenres to the main style. Art Mom is a person, typically a woman, who is very wholesome and loves art as their own child. Art Moms have some overlaps with Softie personas, as Art Moms may be very soft hearted and loving towards their art and others. Artsy Space Kid is an aesthetic really similar to the main one but revolving around space instead of nature or art.

✨ TikTok Preppy (also known as VSCO Preppy and New Preppy, often simply called "Preppy") – aesthetic originated around 2021 and created by girls from Gen Z on social media. People often confuse this style with original preppy, which is associated with a New England subculture amongst WASP (White Anglo-Saxon Protestant) families. TikTok Preppy aesthetic is popular mostly on TikTok, Instagram, Pinterest and online games, for example on Roblox. This aesthetic can be easily described as trendy and cheerful. When you think about this style you most likely will associate it with tweens/teens girls who are in school, often in middle or high school.

The new Preppy visuals are influenced by the VSCO and Preppy aesthetics, this is why this style has "Preppy" in its name. New Preppies tend to associate happy and trendy themes. The most popular motifs and patterns include, but aren't limited to:

Bright colors;

Animal print, for example cheetah, leopard, giraffe and cow;

Roller Rabbit patterns, mostly the pink monkey and pink heart;

Pink cowgirl hats;

Pictures posted on social media by TikTok Preppies are edited by using natural filters. In terms of fashion, Preppies mostly like Aviator Nation, Lululemon and Roller Rabbit but these aren't only brands preffered by TikTok Preppies. Unfortunately these brands can be inaccessible for average teenagers because of high prices, so knockoffs and dupes from stores like Amazon or Temu are popular. Also, many girls that follow this style love to listen to pop music. Many TikTok Preppies also like to use sped up song for their videos and/or edits. The most popular artists among Preppies are:

🏙️ Downtown Girl/Boy (also known as NYC Girl/Boy and Grunge City Girl/Boy) – aesthetic centered around romanticization of living in the downtown of a city, specifically in New York. This style is popular mostly on Pinterest and TikTok, where users create outfits for this tyle and compile images of women and men who fit this aesthetic.

In terms of visuals, it involves a more cozy, almost autumnal view of cities and emphasizes having a cultured lifestyle of visiting places like museums and cafés, and meeting friends, as opposed to a "street" style, which is main subject of Urbancore. Downtown Girls and Boys also incorporates elements of Soft Grunge into their style, with the laid-back attitude and admiration for the music and visual culture of Soft Grunge community. A lot of inspirations for this aesthetic is taken from Twilightcore, an aesthetic that's inspired by a gloomy interpretation of 2000s fashion. Downtown Girls and Boys contrast with the Uptown Girl aesthetic, because Downtown Girl/Boy style is more casual and doesn't involve as many markers of wealth and hyper-femininity. It's often grouped with Coquette, because these two styles have common features such as Lana Del Rey music and Brandy Melville clothing, but these two aesthetics has different clothing style and color scheme.

❄️ Winter Academia (also known as Dark Winter Academia) – aesthetic centered around the pursuit of knowledge through reading, writing and research. Winter Academia in terms of ideology is similar to other Academia aesthetic and visually is similar to Dark Academia but with a further wintery aesthetic added that creates a less ominous atmosphere. Instead of this, this style retains a softer feel which is quite unique amongst other Academic counterparts, despite this style being relatively exclusive to only a few months of the year in real life.

Winter Academia has also its subgenre that is called Christmas Academia. Its almost the same as Winter Academia in terms of visuals but it adds a focus on the Christmas season. This means that it also adopts added motifs such as Christmas trees, wreaths, lights and decorations, as well as the aforementioned motifs used in Winter Academia. Due to the nature of Christmas itself, the aesthetic oftentimes tends to be a lot more colourful than the fairly reserved colour scheme of its Winter Academia root.

👱‍♀️ Basic Girl (also known as Basic White Girl, Common White Girl, Trendy White Girl and Basic Bitch) – aesthetic that originated in the early 2010s through African-Americans'/alt point of view on the average teenage girls, primarily through riffing and observation. A Basic Girl loves Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts, wears Ugg boots and yoga pants, has a sense of authencity and a varying degree of shallowness. This style was created through a negative view of popular trends seen mostly adopted by white teenagers and young adults, and in most of the cases people use it as an insult to these demographics. Major mediq companiec also uses this aesthetic when they create female characters to make them more relatable to a larger audience.

Visually this style is characterized by a combination of popular symbols and trends associated with a stereotype centered around romance, femininity and trendiness. It encompasses visuals such as Starbucks cups, Ugg boots, yoga pants, Jeeps, selfies, manicured nails, dyed blonde hair, Birkenstocks, Top 40 hits, Taylor Swift, iPhones, and an affinity for romantic comedies. Visuals appeal of this aesthetic lies in the display of branded items, fashionable choices, and an inclination towards a specific color palette that may involve pastel colors. These visuals are frequently shared on various social media platforms. These visuals also often reflect a trend-following approach, embracing self loce and going with the flow.

Fashion of Basic Girl is often described as pretty, feminine, comfortable and with items that are easy to obtain and which are usually cheap to produce and cheap to buy, except for key brands that are known by name like Ugg boots or Converse. Fashion in this aesthetic is the main key factor in identifying Basic Girl and are one of the most criticized elements of this style.

📸 VSCO – in this case it's a family of aesthetics named in reference to a photography app called VSCO, earlier known as VSCO Cam, created by Joel Flory and Greg Lutze in 2011. This app gained its popularity thanks to its in-app suite of features that allow users to edit with preset filters and tools. Since its rise in popularity, the VSCO aesthetics also started to appear in other platforms.

🧋 VSCO Girl...

Term originating in 2019s summer. This subculture didn't originate from the VSCO app, but these two are still related in some aspects. VSCO girls often use phrases "and I oop" and/or "sksksksk". They're often compared to E-Girl but in terms of aesthetics these two subcultures aren't the same. The fashion is described as preppy but laid-back. VSCO Girls are also associated with Hydroflasks (a type of reusable watter bottle), Polaroid cameras, TikTok and the "save the turtles" movement. Their style consists of scrunchies, Fjällräven Kånken backpacks, oversized shirts, Nike shorts and the often judged combination of sandals and socks. Favourite shoes of these girls are Vans, Crocs and Birks. These girls seem to be stereotyped, because of people imitating them on the TikTok app. VSCO girls also own shell necklaces and will sometimes wear a tube top and jeans shorts along with some friendship jewelery. You can easily find VSCO girls at Starbucks. Their hairstyles are mostly known to be a messy bun. VSCO girls's values are positivity, creating a positive online environment and being eco-friendly.

...and 🤳 Boy

VSCO Boys are male counterpart to VSCO girls and and ideal VSCO boyfriends. They often likes to riding a skateboard, wearing Vans snakers and having a Hydroflask with a bass pro hat and long hair. Good example of a VSCO boy is Boaz Omunga.

Did you know about 🥤Dark VSCO?

This is an aesthetic similar to VSCO Girl but more mature and with darker themes. The colours are more muted, usually in this style light or dark grey, black and white are used. The patterns are more minimalist and simplistic compared to the bright colors used by VSCO Girls. In this style VSCO components such as scrunchies, Converse sneakers and Hydroflasks are still used, even though this style is darker. Fashion in Dark VSCO is simplisic. Stripes and plaid patterns in more dark or pastel neutral tones are used too. Makeup is simple and fresh, no makeup is also a choice that fits this aesthetic. Common hairstyles include messy buns and loose hair, but braids and ponytails are also an option.

❄️Winter VSCO are also a thing.

This aesthetic is also known under names Winter VSCO girl, Winter bae and Trendy winter. This style is similar to a regular one but with some wintery aspects such as fuzzy socks, warm Starbucks drinks, sweaters, comfy shorts and a warm yet trendy feel. Winter VSCO usually consists of blue, grey and white as an accent colors. Makeup is light blue and white, very natural, not often seen wearing dark eye shadows or lipsticks. Good option are also clear lip glosses and mascaras. No makeup is fitting choice but it's not that popular in this aesthetic. Hairstyles are usually casual. Common hairstyles include straight hair, messy buns, space buns ponytail, twin tails (down) and braided hair.

Not to forget about 🍂 Autumn VSCO.

This style is also recognized under names Fall VSCO, Autumn VSCO Girl, Autumn Bitch and Pumpkin Spice Latte. Autumn VSCO aesthetic is simply a combination of VSCO and Autumn styles. Fall VSCO fashion consists of warm colors, jeans, light sweaters, cozy socks, cardigans and other similar clothing. Hair for this style is curled or wavy, often down. If you want to follow this aesthetic but your hair are up, then do a messy bun, a half up half down or something along these lines. Makeup for Autumn VSCO Girls is light. The most common lipstics are red or nude along with mascara and warm eye shadow.

This aesthetic family also has its 👗 VSCO Preppy.

This style is focused on bright colors, like pink and blue, and animal patterns, usually cheetah, giraffe & leopard. A lot of people confuse this style with Softies, even though these two aesthetics aren't the same. VSCO Preppy is popular among Gen Z and teenag girls on TikTok, Instagram and Pinterest. You can describe VSCO Preppy as trendy, cheerful and luxurious.

I bet you never heard about 🖼️ VSCO Perchta...

...at least about name, because VSCO Perchta are just photos with mood or atmosphere enhanced by using VSCO filters. VSCO have a lot of filters and adjustement options (unfortunately currently most of them, even most of the basic ones, are paid :<) that assist in achieving various aesthetics. By experimenting with different adjustement options and filters you can tailor your vision to match desired photo outcome.

✂️ Scrapbook (also known as Scrapbookcore) – aesthetic centered around scrapbooks and scrapbooking; scrapbook greatly connects to diary keeping and other similar themes, for example bullet journaling or collage artwork. Scrapbook themes are usually colorful and childlike.

Thanks to easier access to the Internet and photo taking with digital cameras, starting from the early 2000s, creating digital scrapbooks started. Some Internet user posted a picture of their friend's selfie, edited like a scrapbook and from this moment the scrapbook way of editing pictures has stayed a staple for the editing community. Traditional scrapbook making but also editing is especially common in K-Pop spheres due to the abundance of material found in a typical K-Pop album. Even so, this type of photo editing is found in all corners of the Internet.

In digital and traditional scrapbooking mixed media and a lot of materials are being used. Scrapbooking have no rules, which is the reason why it can be hard to point out what is or isn't scrapbook. Typical materials include:

🎨 Art Academia – academic aesthetic centered around the creation and enjoyment of art, including sculpture, painting, sketch, doodling, photography and calligraphy. It's similar to Light Academia and Dark Academia in its value of studying, dedicated practice of learned interests, 18-19th century-inspired aesthetics and architecture, but is unique in focusing primarily on the visual arts. This style is primarily centered around the visual arts and as such is mainly a visual aesthetic. Color schemes are generally warm and neutral with bright colors either scattered throughout or focused to draw the viewers' attention.

🍂 Autumn Academia (also known as Autumn Dark Academia) – aesthetic centered around the pursuit of knowledge through reading, writing and research. Ideologically it's similar to its other counterparts and in terms of visual Autumn Academia is really similar to Dark Academia but the warmer colors and the autumn visuals are the things that sets these two styles apart. Despite retaining some of the gothic aspects similar to other Academia aesthetics, it focuses on a cozy and snug atmosphere over a mysterious one. It may also contain elements of Halloween, such as a recurring motif of pumpkins and Jack O' Lanterns, as the aesthetic of autumn and the aesthetic of Halloween are very closely linked.

🖥️ Malwarecore – internet aesthetic centered around the sketchy corners of the Internet. The most important aspect of this aesthetic is the fact that it's from the perspective of a victim to cybercrime, not the attacker. Some characteristics of this aesthetic are fake download buttons, error messages, fake Microsoft tech scammer support pop ups, piracy websites, adware, fake installers and web pages littered with suspicious ads.

🌏 Earthcore (also known as Granola and Earth Lover) – aesthetic centered around the idea of creating a harmonious ecosystem while also advancing in knowledge and technology. This style works to admire the beauty of nature and life while also improving human civilization on Earth in ways that can benefit all parties. It involves all forms and also ranges from geology to astronomy and humanly developments. Earthcore was first most commonly used in referring to all „natural” and „earth-related” aesthetics. Earthcore still can be used as a broad label for all earthly things.

People that follow and enjoy this lifestyle typically are referred to as Granola, but from time to time they are also called „modern-day hippies”. Often they'll be „in tune with their soul” and they're grounded but also very energetic at the same time.

🎭 Theatre Kid (also known as Thespian) – aesthetic focused on acting and stage productions, most notably those that take place in a high school setting. Theatre kids are not just limited to actors, as most people think. People that are included in the theatre kid aesthetic include stage crew, costumers, techie, orchestra and band members, actors and directors and screenwriters. A stereotypical theatre kid can be outgoing and eclectic but it's obvious that many theatre kids deviate from the expected personality and are equally valid in their craft nonetheless.

🅱️ Deep Fried Meme (also known as Deepfried Meme) – meme aesthetic that was popular from 2015 to 2019. This style of memes focuses on applying a massive amount of filters and visual effects to images until they look hurtful to look at, as well as adding surrealistic, „dank” elements to the picture such as bright glowing red eyes, silly emojis, a red square with a B letter on it, and so on.

Sometimes in Deep Fried Memes dark humour is being used, such as racist jokes and slurs, which has led to controversy. The Deep Fried Memes trend first originated in Tumblr in 2015 and quickly gained popularity on Reddit, YouTube and other similar sites, often associated with the 2016 Band Kid stereotype.

This type of memes are perhaps one of the most iconic examples of meta-ironic memes during the late 2010s, as they focus on the nature of memes and gaining meme status rather than the jokes themselves.

❔Surreal Memers – people who post or consume a subgenre of ironic memes called surreal memes. These memes are usually bizarre or absurd, with the punchline frequently being the obvious lack thereof. Humor in surreal memes is often intentionally meaningless and self-aware, which reflects the style of humor Gen Z is commonly known for.

Surreal Memes have a generally surreal sense of humor and are strong source of anti-humor and contain themes of irony and fatalism. Some have joked that the Christian cartoon show Veggietales predicted the rise of surreal memes many years ago, stating that the future humor was just random nonsense being smashed together to humorous effect. General themes of surreal memes include Meme Man, Orang, Vegetal, Stonks, strange versions and references to common objects in our reality and surreal imagery, hence the name.

A lot of people could make the argument that surreal memes carry on the proud tradition of Dadaism in terms of the humor of surreal memes coming from the absolute nonsense and general rejection of conventional art tropes as a proverbial „fuck you” to a society that is seemingly falling apart all around them and telling them they don't deserve beautiful works of art like past generations. This has led to a lot of people in the Vaporwave community having a particular love for this type of memes.

🪄 Witchy Academia (also known as Occult Academia) – aesthetic that revolves around folklore, the pursuit of reading, writing and casting spells, and a general passion for potion making and spell casting. A witch can be both man and woman, thought to have magic powers and popularly depicted in Hollywood as wearing a black cloak and pointed hat, and flying on a broomstick.
