Let’s talk about Ariadne Bridgestock

I’m not her biggest fan. I know ya’ll are just waiting for her and Anna to meet again and continue their “amazing” love story.. but I kinda wish Anna would bitch slap her, though that’s just wishful thinking.

Why is it that I don’t approve of her? That’s quite simple - I don’t respect her, because she doesn’t seem to respect Anna.

At the beginning, Ariadne is quite at ease with her attraction to Anna.. she knows who she is and what she likes, and it didn’t seem to frighten her. Later she even said that she always knew that she’s attracted to women, and so this is something that is not a new and earth shattering revelation to her - which I’m saying because if it was, maybe her later actions cold have been excused due to this fact.

From day one, she was hitting on Anna hard.. which is hot, and definitely commendable, but I would like to linger on one thing she said: “I am modern and possessed of all sorts of advanced notions”. That tells us that Ariadne is comfortable with her sexuality, and doesn’t sees it as something that is wrong or to be hidden.. at least that’s what she would like us (Anna) to believe.

She continues with that appearance when she teases Anna when asking for a “fun” time in London. I mean, dude, that’s a troublemaker move.. as soon as I read that line, a red light started flashing before my eyes and I screamed for Anna to run to the opposite direction.

Ariadne agreement to marry Charles Fairchild is not what I’m angry about. I don’t judge her for being discarded by her adoptive parents, and I don’t judge her wanting children and family. These were different times, and even though I would like to believe I would have lived by my own truth like Anna, I don’t know if I would have.. I can’t, because I don’t know how it is to live in that world.

What I do judge Ariadne for, is taking for granted that Anna would wish to live this life of a lie with her. She sees her as a temporary indulgement, because that’s the only thing she could be for her. Not that theres no feeling or true infatuation there, as much as there can be in the three or four times that they met.

She says that she will not lie to her husband, and therefore declares herself as righteous, but still she has no trouble pursuing Anna even though she’s to be wed.

She’s disregarding Anna’s free will - she does not offer her to be her lover for a year, she states a simple fact (and does it quite too late) - she’s probably about to marry Charles Fairchild, but in the year that will pass until they meet again, she will be with Anna. She doesn’t ask her, she tells her. That assumption, that Anna would surly want to be with her, even though she will be done with her after that year - shows that she has no respect for her.

I’m sure she’s been through her fair share of unpleasantness, with her parent’s death and being adopted by strangers, but it seems like Ariadne Bridgestock is used to have things her way.

In the TLH teaser from Cordelia’s POV, we even see her making an unpleasant remark on Mathew’s interest in fashion. I won’t get in to the discussion about his assumed sexuality (because it’s not relevant), but that already shows us that she’s grown used to viewing people that are different as something to be mocked. Whether Matthew’s gay or not, his behavior is what people associate with gay men, so you could even call Ariadne’s behavior Internalized Homophobia. Not so brave, and not so bold anymore. She’s just acting like our average basic bitch. 

Even though the romance will probably continue, I’m not a fan. I would like Anna to be with a badass, courageous woman. Someone who would thank the angel for every second that smoking hot person walks the earth.

its a browser extension that lets you log into multiple accounts at once! its incredible. i know its got a chrome extension, but i'm not sure about other browsers. you just make a new user on the extension for each character you have and you'll stay logged into their account forever.
