Troll: The Culling - Part 8: Some Minor Mechanics
Alongside Troll: The Culling’s major mechanics, this system also features a couple of smaller, less significant mechanics made to give Chronicles a slightly more “Homestuck” feel. These don’t have as significant an impact on the game as the stability-related mechanics, and exist more as flavoring that can be omitted at the Storyteller’s discretion.
A Kind Abstratus is the weapon a Troll is most proficient at. Unlike in Homestuck, a Troll in a Troll: The Culling Chronicle may only have one Kind Abstratus, but may use weapons outside of their Abstratus at a -1 die penalty. Abstrata names are all formatted in the same way: the name of the weapon type followed by “kind” (IE: Bladekind, Fistkind, Pencilkind). The name cannot exceed 12 characters, so removal of letters may be necessary (IE: Flmthrwrkind meaning Flamethrowerkind or Fncysntakind meaning Fancysantakind). There is no real limit on what constitutes an Abstratus, so long as it can be used to classify some subset of items that can be used as a weapon. For example: Bladekind referring to swords of all types, Hammerkind referring to anything from a simple Carpenter’s Hammer to a Sledgehammer, etc. As long as its use as a weapon can be justified, it works as an Abstratus.
A Troll’s Sylladex is their inventory, allowing them to carry more than just what they can hold in their hand or their pockets. The Troll: The Culling Sylladex is much simpler than the Homestuck Sylladex, and, by default, uses the World of Darkness Fetch Modus. Should the Storyteller allow, other Fetch Modi may be used, examples of which are listed further below
Adding an item to the inventory is referred to as captchaloging items, and is done by storing an individual item in a captchalogue card. Unlike in Homestuck, captchalogue cards in Troll: The Culling can only store items that a Troll could reasonably carry on them in a pocket, bag, or other holding device. The weight and size limit of these cards are relative to a Troll’s strength Attribute, meaning stronger Trolls can carry bigger and heavier objects in their Sylladex.
A Few Fetch Modi
The following Fetch Modi are simple enough mechanically to work well with Troll: The Culling, and require very little additional legwork or paper from both the Player and the Storyteller. All of the Fetch Modi listed below have a maximum inventory size of 12.
Fetch Modus: World of Darkness
The World of Darkness Fetch Modus allows free access to all items within a Troll’s sylladex. Trolls wishing to use an item from their Inventory may need to, depending on the situation, make a roll using Attributes, Skills, or Adaptations as directed by the Storyteller. Once a Troll’s Sylladex is full, they may only add an item to it by swapping it with one of their captchalogued items.
Fetch Modus: Stack
The Stack Fetch Modus operates like a Stack Data Structure, using a First In-Last Out system that only allows a player to access the most recent item they captchalogued. No rolls are required to use the accessible item.
Fetch Modus: Queue
The Queue Fetch Modus operates like a Queue Data Structure, using a First In-First Out system that only allows a player to access the least recent item they captchalogued. No rolls are required to use the accessible item.
More Modi
The above collection of Modi is not an exhaustive list, and more may be utilized so long as the player can make it work and the Storyteller allows it. It should, however, be noted that the ones listed above are the least obtrusive and disruptive to use.
Weaponizing Fetch Modi
Similar to how they work in Homestuck, the Stack and Queue Fetch Modi can be weaponized. Should a Troll attempt to add a 13th item to their Sylladex when using either of said Modi, the least recent item to be added to their Sylladex will be ejected out at high speeds. Generally, the direction of the ejected item is random, but a Troll may attempt to aim the ejected item by rolling Vim and Firearms.
These aren't the only Minor Mechanics in Troll: The Culling. I've elected to omit some (such as Quadrants) so that I still have a few surprises up my sleeve for the final release. In light of that, this is the last mechanical post for Troll: The Culling for a good long while, since we're moving into my favorite part: the Lore. I'll be covering stuff about the Factions, (some of) the Characters, the Backstory, and more in the next several posts (definitely more than 8), so stay tuned if that's your jam!
And now for a new version of the obligatory Playtesting Spiel:
In the Shake-Up announcement that came a few weeks ago, I unintentionally told a tiny little lie, that being that I didn't know when Playtesting is happening. At the time I didn't know it was a lie, but very recently things have picked up, and I'm confident in saying the following: Playtesting will start in Late September/Early October! The systems are finished, the backstory is coming along quickly now that I'm really in the zone, and I'm confident that things will be ready for playtesting by then. I'll start contacting everyone who signed up for Playtesting around the middle of next month, so if you've filled out the form keep an eye out for a friend request from me!
Anyway, on to the usual: The Playtesting Interest Form is still open, and it'll stay that way until the end of next month (hey, we have a deadline now). If you are interested in participating in the first round of playtesting (and having your Troll immortalized within the digital pages of Troll: The Culling's source book), go fill it out! Like I've said the last few times, it is 18+, since, again, mature themes and all that, but any level of experience with WOD, Homestuck, or TTRPGs are welcome! As a reminder, everyone who fills it out, whether they're part of playtesting or not, gets access to the Sourcebook earlier than the general public, and everyone who participates in playtesting can have their Troll added to the Sourcebook as an official T:TC character if they so wish.
If you've made it this far into the series, thanks so much for reading and keeping up with this! I know I said this in the Shake-up announcement, but I really can't say enough that I genuinely appreciate everyone's interest in this system! I'm so glad that other people resonate in some way with this system, and I can't wait to see what you all do with it once it's out there in the public! See you all in the next post!

Yesterday, in the middle of the afternoon, I was walking through the sandy streets, the air boiling with intense heat, dust clinging to faces and clothes.
Amidst all this scenery, my attention was drawn to a little girl, no more than five years old, wearing a faded, tattered burgundy dress, and old shoes barely holding her feet.
She was standing on the side of the road, looking at the passersby with shining eyes, as if to say, "I am beautiful... Don't look at me like I'm poor."
That look stayed with me all night, and I felt I had to know her story.
Today, I decided to look for her and asked around until I reached her tent.
The tent was in the middle of the dirt, its thin fabric barely blocking the scorching sun, and the hot air filled the air.
There was Maria... the same girl I'd seen yesterday, but this time she was closer. I could see the exhaustion on her small face and the sweat glistening on her forehead.
I sat down with her and asked her how she was, then said,
"What's up, Maria?" She looked at her torn shoes, then raised her head with a smile that was a mixture of shyness and hope, and said, "New boots... I know how to walk in them." Her words were simple, yet weighty... because they were not the wish of a child wanting to play, but rather the wish of a child displaced from her home, walking daily on hot, stone-strewn streets, her torn shoes hurting her with every step.
I left her tent, carrying in my heart the image of Maria... a child whose only desire from this world was new boots, so she could learn how to walk without the pain of the road.

This child didn't think about shelter or bread. All she wanted was to remain a child like any other, walking with confident steps, unabashed by poverty and unshaken by the siege. Hidden within her small wish was a great cry: Let me live with dignity.
This is a child among the many children living in Gaza. Judy, Lina, Misk, and... Sami's daughter are among those children who want to buy new clothes. Donate 25 good euros here to buy some of the things they need

if you have a moment, please consider giving some attention to my friend Nader ( @nader202-3 )'s campaign. besides himself, he is providing for his wife, Sally ( @sally2033 ), and their three young children, Laila, Nour, and Ahmed, as well as his parents and siblings. Nader's father was injured in the airstrike that destroyed the family's home; due to the lack of available medical care, he continues to struggle with long-term complications. this bombing also killed several of the Gibril family's relatives, including Nader's aunt, uncle, and cousin with his whole family.
now, their situation has gotten even more dire. earlier this month, Nader attempted to get food for the family at one of the israeli/US-run GHF aid distribution sites. as you've likely heard, these facilities have been used as cover to deliberately kill and injure people who come seeking desperately needed food. over 240 humanitarian organizations have called for the GHF to cease operations, and according to the UN, over 1,000 people have been killed while seeking aid. thankfully, Nader was not among them—but he was shot in the back and is now recovering from this serious injury without the benefits of easily accessible medicines, nutritious food, or even a safe and quiet place to rest.
Nader and Sally's children are all under ten years old. they are acutely vulnerable to starvation and the long-term consequences of malnutrition. if the Gibril family's campaign doesn't raise sufficient funds to buy food (which can be over $200 USD per day), Sally or one of the other adults in the family will have to risk their life seeking aid from the GHF. this is not tenable. they should not have to choose between being shot and watching their beloved children fade away from starvation.
your donations and engagement with Nader and Sally's campaign mean that Nader can recover without having to worry for his family, that Sally won't have to risk death or injury to feed their children, and that Laila, Nour, and Ahmed can survive and stay healthy. even just sharing their posts, following one or both of their blogs, or dropping a kind word is a reminder that they are not facing this terrible situation alone. whatever you can do to help is valuable.
(The Gibril family's campaign has been verified by @/90-ghost and is facilitated by @/pocketsizedquasar-3)

Isreal is deliberately starving Gaza. Prices are high, and donations are slow for Youssef and his family...
Israel targeted and killed 7 children and 4 adults waiting for water in a drone strike while crowds of people attempted to retrieve clean water from a water truck on July 13th. Water shortages are becoming worse. Fuel shortages are heavily affecting desalination sanitation facilities. People are now dependant on collection centres.
That massacre was just one of several in a 24 hour period on July 12th and 13th. The Health Ministry in Gaza reported that 139 bodies have been brought to hospitals within that 24 hour period.
(Source: The Electronic Intifada)
In Gaza, just standing to receive water, or a food package is a death sentence. And yet the world is silent and complicit in this horror.
The alternative for this is buying food for crazy, expensive prices nobody can bear alone. Keep in mind, there is no income in Gaza.
Youssef ( @yosefgaza122 ) requires urgent donations. Him and his family are human too. His wife Hanan, and children Lana, Aboud and Adam aren't numbers. They have a story to tell (read here).
But the world is unsympathetic and unkind. The world has blocked their ears and eyes to the pain, suffering and extermination in Gaza.
They have only raised 11% of their goal, hardly enough to sustain the prices Youssef describes;
"Dear friend, we are living in a state of high prices in Gaza. Your donation is very important and necessary for my family. Every generous donation will save us from famine. Prices are exorbitant. Prices of basic commodities in Gaza today, Saturday, July 19 1 kg of flour: 200 shekels (£60) 1 kg of sugar: 400 shekels (£120) 1 kg of pasta: 100 shekels (£30) 1 kg of lentils: 80 shekels (£26) 1 kg of rice: 150 shekels (£45) 1 kg of tomatoes and eggplant: 90 shekels (£24) 1 kg of potatoes: 100 shekels (£30)."
The donations they are currently receiving are not enough to cover these costs. Youssef is vetted, (#591) on the @/gazavetters list.
The more shares, the more donations, the more we are helping aid get food a family in need. The more we are feeding three innocent children - be the reason they can eat.

In the age of shiny screens and smart towers, children in Gaza are dying minutes away from 5G networks. They didn't die from a bomb, but from starvation. And worse? Their deaths weren't sudden. They took their time, day after day, atrophy after atrophy, until they disappeared, leaving only their bodies resembling life, but not living.
Where was humanity?
Where were the governments and organizations? Where are you? You who watch and grieve for a few minutes, then pass the image along like an advertisement. You who have food, medicine, and even the internet to cry out... but you remain silent.
Why are my children in Gaza dying of starvation? Not because the world is powerless, but because it chose not to see.
What is happening is an indictment of a world that has made humanity a choice, not an innate quality. An indictment of everyone who remained silent, everyone who saw and remained silent, everyone who liked the image without moving.
We don't need images that shake us... we need hearts that don't remain silent. Please share our post, my friends, maybe you can change this bitter reality and donate to us what you can. Your donation will save us from the famine that is ravaging the bodies of my young children who are now suffering from malnutrition. Believe me, I am writing to you now with a trembling heart, eyes filled with tears, and a wish that my children will survive this deadly famine. I am completely helpless and you are the ones who can save us. Thank you all and I am very sorry for bothering you.

Israel has constructed severe famine through continuous bombing of infrastructure, months of blockades, and sabotaging efforts for humanitarian groups to distribute aid. 98.5% of Gaza's cropland has been destroyed or made inaccessible by Israel's ecocide.
Thousands of people have been brutally injured or killed by the Israeli military and mercenaries at the GHF death traps since they opened just a couple months ago.
90% of Gaza's 2.4 million residents have been displaced, and the death toll since 2023 has surpassed 61,000, many of whom were children and babies. The Israeli military occupation controls 75% of Gaza, and on August 7, Israel's security cabinet approved Netanyahu's plan to occupy the rest of Gaza.
This stage of genocide has received public criticism from many, even including some allies of Israel such as the British Prime Minister, the French Foreign Minister, the German Chancellor, the European Council President, and the European Commission President. As of writing this, this criticism has not translated into any meaningful change in policy. These leaders think statements can distract from their bloody hands while they still fund and directly benefit from the genocidal settler-state of Israel.
UN high commissioner for human rights released a statement saying: "The Israeli Government's plan for a complete military takeover of the occupied Gaza Strip must be immediately halted." But what is the UN doing to empower Palestine?
We must not place undue weight on statements. What matters is action. Israel's access to the tools of genocide must be severed, and Palestine's access to the resources of survival must be given immediately.
My friend Fadel needs urgent medical attention. He survived the bombing of his home, but has not been able to afford travel to a hospital that has the resources to remove the shrapnel from his body. He is in constant pain, and needs monthly medication for his disability. The cost of food is high, and his family can only afford bread with a consistent stream of donations. They are starving.
Fadel's fundraiser was vetted by @gazavetters (line #197) and shared by @90-ghost (here).
I talk to him often, and I can tell you that the number of donations he receives each week directly impacts whether he can access medicine and food to relieve his pain and keep him alive. I can also tell you that he is a very kind young man with a compassionate heart.
Please help him. He needs support. Please consider donating to his campaign, reblogging this post and scheduling it throughout the week so others see it, or sending him a kind message at @fadel-dani.
Thank you <3

You consider every person born in Gaza a terrorist who must be killed. Even children must be killed in the name of Israel’s safety. Even hospitals, schools, and universities must be destroyed in the name of Israel’s safety.
Everything about the Palestinian genocide is disgusting, inhumane, and deeply frustrating, but what makes me even more angry is that Israel is seizing all this land with the aim of demolishing it and building new homes. Not only are they doing everything in their power to exterminate an entire people and culture, but they are also starving children and civilians, torturing prisoners, closing the crossings, and imposing a siege. Sami's family fled today on foot, leaving their clothes and memories behind, because the Israeli military operation will encompass the entire Gaza Strip in the coming days, and prices are skyrocketing. Please donate anything to save the remaining innocent people in Gaza. Please donate anything. One euro is enough.

This message is for you, the one reading these words. Do you feel us in Gaza? Do you feel our pain? 🥺 Stop for a moment—you who draw colors, create images, and write words—stop and hear my voice. I know your time is precious and your money is important to you, but here our time is filled with blood, massacres, and genocide.
Today, Trump says, “We will stop the war in Ukraine to save lives”, and on the same day he gives Netanyahu the green light to occupy Gaza and displace its people as quickly as possible. I ask myself: why is this happening to us? Where will we go? Will we stay alive? I am responsible for my family, and I am trembling just thinking about it. Do you know why? Because displacement is terrifying, and the displaced are bombed, arrested, and tortured. They know nothing of humanity—they are monsters. Please donate here
Every step of displacement costs us dearly—physically, mentally, and financially. Please, do not stand by and watch. Protests alone will not save us. My family and I are asking for your help, but most people ignore us. I beg you, do good before it’s too late—we may be gone at any moment. Donate to help me, Sami, my children, and my family survive another day in safety.

I swear to God my campaign has been documented for a year, and I am living through famine like everyone else. Until when will there be injustice in sharing and support here?😢💔💔🙏

*I am pregnant 💔
*Hunger is extremely harsh during pregnancy
*Homeless, living in a tent
* 10 people living in a single tent — with nothing to eat
*My family is suffering from hunger
*My grandmother’s body is frail from lack of food
*The markets are expensive
Life is very hard — no matter how many details I write, I cannot explain the suffering.
What can I do to receive support like everyone else?

Rest peacefully, little Omar
It is with a broken heart that we have to share the worst news imaginable with the NGU community. This weekend, the IOF bombed the neighborhood of Yahya Al-Habil and his family. Little Omar, Yahya’s 7-year-old brother who we have mentioned often, was martyred.
Both Yahya and his brother Mohammed are being treated in different departments for the severe injuries they sustained from this attack, and did not get the chance to say goodbye to Omar. They now urgently need $5,000 usd to continue treatment and hopefully stabilize their critical conditions.
Please share their story and donate anything you can to their campaign- this family cannot handle another loss.
Current: $2,390 out of $5,931 usd—updated 11 August 2025
Need to raise: $3,541 usd
Previous updates are available here; vetting information in the last reblog

To all our loved ones outside the planet called Gaza
Gaza is not just a city, it is a land of generosity, dignity, and strength.
A small place in geography, but vast in unity and compassion.
Muslims and Christians live together like one big family.
Families are interconnected through generations of marriage and shared struggle. There’s no home that hasn’t opened its door to another in times of hardship.
Gaza is not only about the sea, fish, land, olives, palms, and agriculture,
it is full of doctors, engineers, teachers, traders, workers, and skilled professionals from every field.
People who work hard, dream big, and simply want to live in dignity.
Even during war, if basic goods were available, even at high prices, we would still stand together and support each other as always.
But today, the issue is not just that prices are high,
the problem is: there’s simply nothing to buy
And the prices? They're not just expensive, they’re — astronomical.
Not to live well, just to stay alive
Even a wealthy person, if they’re not corrupt, can’t survive under these conditions.
Believe us, it’s not easy to ask for donations.
It’s not easy to say, "We are starving"
But this is the truth, everything we owned has vanished in the wind
The war left us with nothing.
Gaza is not a memory, Gaza is still standing, and still worthy of life
Show your humanity
Support Palestinian families
Support my family 🙏💔🇵🇸
