✥ The Tolling of Bells :: Act 2  ✥
I want you here.
They were words that continued to haunt Veilaxia as she sat upon the Prism Lounge couch. Elbow was nestled into the top of her knee while her chin was settled into her palm. Pale, blue opal eyes stared at an array of twilight iced cupcakes she had made ten minutes or so prior. There were a dozen of them that had joined a wide array of other sweets: brownies, lollipops, crystal crunches, sours, gummies— the abundance of goods a direct response to her boredom.
“Well, we could try candy canes? It’ll be Winter Veil soon!”
The suggestion came from Vanafrey, a rainbow quel’dorei with a personality that glittered just as colorfully. Her encouragement brought a weak smile  to Veilaxia’s expression as she glanced from candy to love. Still, as her gaze drifted towards the kitchens, Veil found herself take pause upon one of the corridors that led down towards Zyhale’s room. Some light in her eyes died as she shook her head. Quietly, the hand that supported her head fell to her legs and the draconic woman stood from her spot.
“I will join you in the kitchen in a moment! I just want a little fresh air.”
The frown on Vana’s features made Veil shrug in rapid succession. She wiggled in her spot rather dramatically and the jewelry that hung from her horns twinkled obnoxiously. Vana snorted and rolled her eyes while Veilaxia grinned a little more brightly. Hands pressed to her thighs as Veil leaned over and stole the softest kiss from Vanafrey’s lips. She winked teasingly as she straightened up and took a step back.
“Seriously, I’m just going to get a breath of fresh air. The candles are starting to give me a little headache. I’ll meet you in there!”
With a hop and skip to her step, Veilaxia exited out two large, prismatic glass doors. They were closed quietly behind her and she stretched her arms above her head as she walked over to the balustrade. Arms crossed atop the railing and she leaned some of her weight into them. Pale gaze lowered towards the realm below and the smile she had formed fell away. While the Scourge had yet to attack the Prism Lounge, Veilaxia couldn’t help but ache for Azeroth and the onslaught the people around her faced.
“How am I supposed to earn your trust if you don’t let me?” she asked the still air quietly.
It was with no answer that Veilaxia took pause. Her brows creased and she turned her head slightly to listen for the enchanted gardens. Her brows narrowed a little more together when she heard nothing— not a peep of a baby bird or the buzz of a bored insect. Eyes scanned the air in front of her like she could read it only to drift skyward. Veilaxia straightened up as she gripped the railing more tightly. Overhead, clouds like wildfire began to claim the skies.
They were putrid, an ebony with a hue of the Eastern Plaguelands— a sickly orange that meant nothing good. Veil rocked back on her heels and took a step away from the balustrade as she studied the skies above. Her hand flicked to the side and above it formed an orb of molten lazuli. It hovered above her palm for barely a heartbeat before a flicker of light emerged from the clouds and a spear pinned her magics to the ground.
“Fluffernuts!” she cursed sharply.
With a sharp spin on her heel, Veilaxia turned to the door only to catch a glimpse of Vanafrey leaving the kitchen. Her eyes widened and her heart fell into the voidal pit of her stomach. She glanced over her shoulder towards the hell harpies that descended from the skies and the rushed the doors. Twilight fire warped chains around bronze handles and solidified in blue diamond. Vanafrey arrived at the doors as the magic was made manifest and slammed her hands against the glass.
“Veil!”
“Get to Zyhalemi. Go, Vanafrey!”
With the order given, Veil turned back towards the Mawsworn. Her eyes scanned their crazed flight pattern before she shoved herself away from the door. She glanced towards the spear once tossed at her and extended her hand towards it. Pinned magics began to consume the weapon until the void had laid claimed to death. Her movements following were quick. She leapt onto the balustrade in tandem with flicking her hand. The spear was launched upwards as the dragon jumped from the balcony.
There was a moment where she vanished beneath the window level only to rise anew. Her wings spread wide before with a powerful force downwards she sent herself in a spiraling torpedo upwards. Veilaxia took pause when she had broken the wall of Mawsworn and opened her jaws to resonate an earthquake of a roar. One hell harpy was caught in the twilight scorch while two others fell from their bones shattering by the very weight of the sound.
But the first round of Mawsworn were not to be the last. From behind, more emerged from the smoke. Spears cut through Veil’s wings and caused an echoing cry of pain. She tucked her wings and attempted to drop beneath them. Yet, they were more prepared than the ones before them. Ebon chains were made manifest through her injuries; they spiraled through her legs and around her neck. Veil struggled against them and snapped her jaws at the magic they formed from. She shattered two before they wrapped around her maw.
It was then that Zyhalemi arrived with Vanafrey to the window. The timewalker slammed her hands against the door but was unable to break the chainwork as she watched her ward be claimed by the Shadowlands. Quicksand gaze watched as the clouds failed to vanish, even as Veilaxia was pulled into them. Fist smashed against the glass with frustration but she turned on her heel. A pocket watch was torn from her hip and tossed to Vanafrey.
“Call the others, inform them they are to meet us near Suramar.”
Zyhalemi hadn’t given Vana the time to argue as she vanished in place, a few grains of sand left where she stood.
