also can we talk about how Dina, from the moment Ellie saves her by taking that bite, she's in a different genre altogether?
Ellie is still in action hero mode, "no biggie, just a scratch" and immediately goes to find shelter. Meanwhile, Dina is going through all five stages of grief at the same time, because in her mind, not only is Ellie going to die. She is going to die while she was too much of a coward to admit her own feelings.
She thought she'd have enough time, and now that time is ripped away from her. She even begs Ellie not to make this harder than it already is, because she probably expects Ellie's final words before she has to shoot her that she loves her. Because Dina knows. She admits later on she totally knew about Ellie's feelings and it would hurt too fucking much to hear that confession and then immediately after having to shoot her.
Dina is in a tragic gay play, where she admitted her feelings too late for the girl she likes and – given how her mother's dismissal affected her so much – now probably will never be brave enough to embrace her bisexuality. Because Ellie was the one that made her feel brave.
Of course she immediately confesses everything in one breathe as soon as she realizes Ellie isn't going to turn. Girl got a second chance and she's not going to waste a single moment this time.

After 30 years and a lifetime of living done in such short time , if there’s anything I could tell the younger versions of me it would be this; it’s okay to make mistakes, as long as you own up to them instead of running away. It’s okay to love more than one person; they just might not love you back. It’s okay to cry; sometimes you need it. Patience is a virtue but, it is also a tool that can be used against you; stop waiting around for people and things that won’t change. Love will find you in the most random of places. You WILL find your people. You are strong, I am proud of you.

So I got a new phone number about, mmm, two years back?
And ever since I have been receiving calls and texts meant for the people who had it before me, Trevor and Bethany.
Now originally I was rooting for Trevor and Bethany. Bethany had a number of debts with those pay-in-four things and was altogether not doing well. Somehow she owed money to KFC? As in, the American chicken joint? And Trevor, dude, some of the calls for Trevor would just open with threats and insults. I assumed as anybody would that they lost their number due to not being able to pay their bills. I had survivor's guilt over a phone number.
The months roll on and I start getting calls and texts from more suspicious sources. Christian organizations. As in, worrying Christian organizations. Christian nationalist organizations. They'd mention "trans activist protests" and Stop the Boats events. Sometimes these texts would simply contain slurs. Bad signs. This was a face-heel moment for Trevor and Bethany.
So, now when I receive a call obviously meant for Trevor I claim that's my deadname and actually I live by Ruth Hemingway Spiritstone now, or I tell them that the police got to me and they need to ditch the stash ASAP, or other whatever things like that.
Friends, this is the first election season I have had this number.
And these people are fucking insane.
My phone has been BLOWING UP with calls for Bethany and Trevor to come to this protest or to hand out pamphlets for Peter Dutton at this train station. They're all written with such URGENCY too, like the country's going to sink into the fucking ocean if Trevor doesn't convince a single mom to vote against welfare increases right this second.
