There’s a river full of memory.

at first, sleep evades her because she’s homesick and worried : did her family survive? what had the mist done? would they all be alright? would see them again? would they remember her?

and then sleep evades her because she’s lovesick. she thinks it’s silly, really. lovesick, like some silly girl in some silly song, but that doesn’t help her sleep. she’s in love with agnarr, and she’s fairly certain it’s not going to matter, and she doesn’t know how to fix any of it. 

and then sleep evades her because she’s a mother. first with elsa, and then (scant few years later) with anna, and she insists on caring for the babies herself, and babies infamously hardly let their mothers sleep. 

and then it’s because she’s heartsick and worried: anna had been hurt and elsa was hurting, and all she wanted to do was all she couldn’t do. she wanted to fix everything, and yet nothing seemed able to be fixed.

i had a fairly dismal number of drafts on my other blogs (much more than i have here!) that i’m now gladly, albeit too slowly, wrangling into submission. i’ll be back in action with ic replies (memes/drafts/starters) here either tomorrow afternoon or sometime saturday!

would you write with once upon a time based frozen characters? iduna’s not their mom there though

afkdhf i’ve been waiting for this question to come up, and here’s my answer: it would depend. idk, this might be semi-controversial, but i’m fine with ouat-based frozen characters (assuming they’re using the actresses as faceclaims etc) IF THE BLOG IS SOLELY OUAT BASED! i see ouat as an entirely different story that just happens to use similar characters as the movies. that being said, i find using ouat as an au without adjusting it to the new content/as an excuse to use the faceclaims OR using elements of the animated movie canon in an otherwise ouat blog iffy at best. so. if the blog is a purely ouat elsa or anna, yes, i would write with them. iduna is not their mother in that version, their mother is an entirely different character, and the story is entirely different. there’d have to be some plotting involved, and the answer might change depending on the way the blog is using the content, but in general? yes.

iduna spent so long with both girls, when they were tiny babies, just /staring/ at them, absolutely in awe of how beautiful they were and just.... entirely in love.

remember when the very first trailer came out and part of the internet freaked out thinking the “mysterious girl in the forest” was gonna be elsa’s love interest and the rest of us were like “friends, that’s....very obviously meant to be a child.” and then it turned out to be elsa’s M O T H E R?? 2019 has been WEIRD

iduna playing with the wind

WHILE DIFFERENT VERSIONS WILL ALWAYS BE AVAILABLE FOR PLOTTING, these are the main iduna-survives aus i’ll be working with: 

the shipwreck still occurs, and most of the occupants of the ship die during the storm. iduna survives, potentially along with agnarr. clinging to debris, she/they are pushed to shore by the wind and waves, and the forest/mist makes an exception for them. allowed inside, but not allowed to leave again, iduna finds the northuldra and reunites with them. from here, there are a couple of different paths this one can take. either she’s reunited with elsa and anna as soon as they reach the enchanted forest OR she’s kept hidden (due to the important of elsa reaching ahtohallan without distraction?) or maybe she’s just Away in another part of the forest when they arrive and doesn’t come back until they’ve already left, idk. in any case, she’d be reunited with them when they both return. the ending of this is going to be left up to plotting : she (and agnarr, depending on plotting) are both still presumed dead by all of arendelle, and their return could complicate things.) 

the shipwreck still occurs, iduna is the only one who survives. she’s washed ashore….somewhere? but with no memory. her memory does not return until elsa reawakens the spirits, at which point she starts her journey home. 

the ship survives the storm and they find ahtohallan. this can generally go one of two ways: ahtohallan reveals something of importance to iduna, and it becomes clear to her that elsa will have to go there herself when she’s older/more assured in her powers. (maybe it also gives her the means to help elsa learn to control her powers? idk) iduna and agnarr return to arendelle with this new knowledge, iduna reveals the truth of where she came from / who she is to elsa first, and then explains what they learned at ahtohallan. she would then tell anna the truth of everything, as well, including the parts that the trolls had wiped from her memory. the OTHER option is that ahtohallan is inaccessible to iduna and agnarr, and their trip is basically in vain. they still make it back to arendelle and begin the slow process of ending the concealment and helping elsa prepare for the day she will be queen. whether or not they tell her & anna the truth about ahtohallan / the forest / the northuldra / etc is going to be left up for plotting for this second version of events.

do you all ever think about the fact that iduna and agnarr died so suddenly and unexpectedly that all of their belongings would have still just been? everywhere? there would have been SO MANY traces of them still around the castle: iduna’s perfume lingering, books left open or bookmarked, letters and notes, just the usual everyday traces of people living a life they had expected to come back to?
