After reading the assigned readings Design and Accessibility and Accessibility and Guidelines for UX Designers both had great points to bring to light about accessibility and how important it is to make websites accessible for not only people with long term disabilities but short term as well. When reading Design and Accessibility. I found it intriguing about how many different points to look at when making sure a website is accessible. The points can range from multiple ways to view a website to even the orientation you choose because it can affect somebody with dexterity impairments. When reading the second article it had a lot of similarities with the first one. It talked about ways to make websites more accessible through contrast and how accessibility is not a barrier to innovation but a means to even put diversity within a given product. The second article also goes into depth about how providing visual focus is a must when making a website accessible. In an ever increasing technological world I think it is extremely important that websites keep themselves accessible for many people with many disabilities. This topic of accessibility really hits home because with an older brother with autism I am always looking for different websites for him to play around with. The tools for website accessibility are extremely useful to a person looking for a good website for somebody and knows what to look out for rather it be multiple ways to access the website or just a colorful descriptive website. These readings tie into my major well because as a future pharmaceutical salesmen it is important to make my PowerPoint presentations accessible for everybody so I can get my sale across the right and positive way.
For my two rhetorical strategies I chose visual and linguistic. For visual I chose a picture of the word Inaccessible being changed to the word accessible because I thought it would be appropriate for what the readings were based on. For my linguistic rhetorical strategy I chose how I felt about the two readings.

Upon finishing both of the assigned readings Sustaining Critical Literacies in the Digital Information Age: The Rhetoric of Sharing, Prosumerism, and Digital Algorithmic Surveillance. and Dana Boyd on the Spread of Conspiracies and Hate Online. I was immediately left with the impression on how much more different types of social media affect day to day life. It can link us in positive ways and you can learn a lot about different kinds of cultures. In the first reading it opens up about the general information about sharing on social media. It also shows people how to be good digital citizens. The article then takes a turn and goes into prosumerism and the link between the industrial and informational era. I think its pretty cool how much things changed once social media became more advanced from going to Friend star to our beloved Instagram and Facebook. One major change listed in both articles was economics and the way people go about purchasing different items. I've always wondered how and why websites track what we buy and it was intriguing how in both of the readings I received more background information on it. In Dara's video interview she got into how the stuff people search up can affect a lot of things. It was Intriguing when I listened about the ALS ice bucket challenge and the murder of Michael Brown. How Twitter and Facebook had different things trending because of the ways their databases are setup. One overall theme I found in both of the readings was literally how social media affects and changes peoples views of something. Whether it be implementing cookies/ads based on the way we shop and tracking are purchases and even changing are views on something like a shooting. You can bet the common search engine for whatever is going on at that point of time will affect most peoples opinions. Both articles really made me think how something I search or tweet can affect what other people may see on their social media page. For plans on being a Pharmaceutical Sales Rep and working in business I can use social media to my advantage by scrolling through social media and seeing about what peoples health problems are and the medication needed for wherever area I am working in. Then using my findings as a sales technique in that certain area.
I chose visual and linguistic for my two rhetorical strategies. For linguistic I talked about my thoughts about to two readings and summarized them on how I felt was important. For visual I chose a picture of a bunch of search engines linked with apps. I thought it was appropriate for what the two readings were about and expressed it.

When reading What is Rhetorical about Digital Rhetoric? Perspectives and Definitions of Digital Rhetoric I was surprised to say the least. Many scholar's and professors met up to try and find the definition of digital rhetoric. Between the reading and watching the attached video I can clearly see how none of the people involved where able to think of a single definition to define digital rhetoric. It was pretty funny seeing the peoples expressions and how confused they were especially people who are considered professionals in the field. During the second day of the meeting the article mentions how the conversation transitioned into a more cultural and civic turn. I find it intriguing how with all the attempts in a quest for a successful definition they ended up gaining a more better understanding which in turn opens up a new realm of discussions and who knows even coming up with new concepts. They found people can explore digital rhetoric in their own way and its open to more interpretations on digital rhetoric. Personally I feel that that their will never be one simple written in stone definition on digital rhetoric. I feel digital rhetoric is what people make of it and is an excellent tool and useful in so many ways whether it be applying to an audience or certain group and trying to get your point across the possibilities are endless. I can used digital rhetoric in my future as a potential pharmaceutical sales representative by trying to persuade whoever would be interested in a certain product to buy it. For example, applying sales techniques on a PowerPoint presentation of simply expressing why they should purchase the product.
I chose a picture of a person looking confused for my visual rhetorical mode. I thought it tied into the reading well because of how confused the graduate students and scholars were when it came to finding a definition on digital rhetoric. For my other rhetorical mode I chose linguistic by expressing my thoughts on the article and how it tied into my major.

After reading the article Rhetoric, Knowledge, And “The Brute Facts Of Nature” In Science Research. I was from the start extremely interested. With my major being Biology in class a lot of what we constantly learn about is how scientists are constantly trying to prove their conclusions from experiments and being judged by other people in the science community. Metonymy which is basically in short comparing two alike things with exceptions of creating a new meaning was an extremely useful tool that physicists used and they used it wisely. I found it clever how the physicists knew how much the experiment would be evaluated and recreated by the harsh science community so they came up with a way to kind of bounce back and fourth but keep everyday peoples views on something in focus. In this case being a quantum well. Macdonald and Tzu did the same thing by using rhetoric and metonymy but an experiment consisting of the degradation of the photoconductivity of film. They showed how the film was degrading but just how it was degrading was most likely from Silicon Dioxide but could also be degrading from other factors like Hydrogen or outside elements. Macdonald and Tzu focused on the degradation of the film and tried to apply it to people who may be reading about the experiment and sway them from thinking what else could have cause the degradation they weren't really trying to persuade in my opinion but just keep peoples minds in focus which is important when in science countless people can try and come up with different theories and hypothesis about scientific work. When I got to the part about Metonymy in theoretical physics I found it absolutely crazy how people that call themselves string theorists believe in something in the scientific world that doesn't even support basic evidence to become a scientific theory. Its the first time I have ever heard about something like that in science when all I learned about was if you wanted to prove something in science you better be damn sure you have enough evidence and backup to support your overall cause. I definitely think Science has changed and can be changing drastically in the near future due to use of analogies and Metonymy like how physicists used it to keep peoples realms in focus whether it be a quantum well or an experiment on string theorists.
For my rhetorical strategies in regards to this post I chose visual and linguistic. I chose a picture of a cat and lion with a mirror. I think it ties together well with the article and metonymy which compares two alike things. The cat is obviously by no means a lion but they are related and in this picture the cat looking through the mirror perceives itself as a lion in its own realm.

After reading On Multimodal Composing and Women, Rhetoric, and Politics on Pinterest. I initially felt out of my element. I have never really used Pinterest and I was also reading an article that had to do with Women and how they use Pinterest so as a guy I really did feel confused and didn't have a lot of interest at first. Although as I got deeper into both articles I found it rather interesting how their are so many ways people compose their ideas. For example how different kinds of people from different ethnic and social backgrounds all compose using their body's and emotions in various spaces. There are many tools people use to compose as well from the use of 3D printers to Pinterest. I saw some similarities in both articles when it came to the way people composed. I read some examples in the first article and saw how women compose mainly from passed experiences and emotions and saw the same thing on Pinterest when I was reading about how a mother used her knowledge about crafts for kids and posted it. It was cool to see how peoples situations can impact the overall way they compose. In my own experience I would definitely say the things I do affect the way I compose through social media and everyday life. For example when I post on Instagram it usually has something to do with the outdoors because that's what I like and the posts I make are usually about the outdoors because it influences the way I post.
I chose visual and linguistic for my rhetorical strategies in this situation. I posted a picture of a guy looking confused in front of his computer. I chose this picture because his overall mood is definitely going to affect the way that he composes.

When reading the Multiliteracies for a Digital Age. My first impression was it was obviously some sort of outdated guide for teachers. Upon looking at the date it was published and seeing how it was published in 2004 my suspicions were ultimately correct. I was actually extremely interested to see how far things have actually come regarding technology and the way it was used back in the day versus now. Its pretty cool to see how far we have come in regards to learning for example answers to questions and research about something are only a fingertip away. Learning about the different critical literary aspects from 2004 was also interesting because it showed how one had to kind of separate technology and treat it as an outside source. Where as now technology and learning are more intertwined. I had the pleasure growing up in middle school and junior high of taking lots of technology classes and was taught to use a computer at a young age. In college I have also had countless professors teach me how to access D2l as well as my school email account. Overall this article has made me grateful about how I went through my schooling with technology by my side.
For my rhetorical strategies I chose written and visual. For the written portion I put my past experiences growing up in school using technology. For the visual portion I put a little kid using a computer showing a younger generation utilizing technology.

When reading the Primary Care Clinic article I was extremely surprised to say the least. I never knew healthcare and writing can be linked whatsoever. Usually when one thinks about healthcare they associate it with medicine and other stuff like doctors visits and surgery. However as I kept reading the article I started realizing how treating major diseases and sicknesses comes down to writing as one of the first steps. For example every time somebody visits a doctor the very first thing they look up is your medical records to view your past medical history. Currently as a Biology major this article really applied to me. I hope to get into the pharmaceutical sales industry and writing is a big part of it as far as medical sales go. Overall I really enjoyed this article and its taught me a lot on how writing and the medical industry are linked.
I posted a picture of a doctor writing on a clipboard because I felt it really conveyed the overall message of the story. I chose a visual multimodal mode.

When reading both of the articles a common theme I found was how important it is to appeal to the audience you are trying to communicate with. For example, in the comic when Aristotle had people perform during his plays it appealed to the Greek people using ethos, pathos, logos. For logos it appealed to the logic of not committing a severe crime by showing the people of Greece the repercussions. For pathos it appealed to their emotions by instilling fear into the audience, like when watching tv and seeing a drunk driving commercial. It shows the police pulling somebody over. In Ethos, Aristotle appeals to the audience by challenging their ethic's of having people on stage performing violent and sexual crimes, and giving them the idea of the consequences and how their life would turnout.
This is a picture of a drive sober and get pulled over commercial and how it applies to ethos, pathos ,logos by using ethics, fear, and logic.
