Just a few of the hundreds of posters from todays #nationaloverdoseawarenessday event held thanks to @bcponj and @theblackposterproject . Alumni in Recovery is a 501 C3 organization of local people who volunteer to speak at schools and community events about their struggles with substance abuse; people from the recovery and grieving communities in a peer-to-peer approach. We aim to raise awareness and end the stigma surrounding addiction and Substance Use Disorder by connecting people with solutions and resources. Sharing our stories connects us and helps change our perceptions about substance use and addiction. Having meaningful conversations empowers us with knowledge and equips us to opt for better choices in preventing addiction and maintaining a healthy well-being. We partner with The Black Poster Project (TBPP) for community and school events. The Black Poster Project is a traveling exhibit of hundreds of lives lost to overdose and addiction-related deaths created by AinR Parent member Dee Gillen. Together our joined mission is to build community action through these informative and inspiring events. Schools can have AinR + TBPP to have this impactful presentation available for their student body. The speakers and the posters helps facilitate an understanding of the fatality of substance misuse and how our youth can opt for better choices. Town community-based forums can provide the same impact and bring people together alongside valuable resources. Let us help you create an addiction awareness event for your school or town today! Sometimes we get sad about things and we don’t like to tell other people that we are sad about them. We like to keep it a secret. Or sometimes, we are sad but we really don’t know why we are sad, so we say we aren’t sad but we really are.

In 2014, founder Nancy Labov had the idea to bridge the community and educate students on addiction, helping to end the stigma towards those in recovery. This idea has become Alumni in Recovery. Everyday Nancy and AinR members continue the work on building the bridge. AinR goes into schools and speaks to students, sharing their stories and allowing students to hear the truth about what addiction and recovery look like.
.
Today AinR now has chapters and branches throughout New Jersey. &Today is the one year anniversary of our Paterson chapter! Every day these dedicated members take time out of their busy schedules to help the community become a better place for our youth. 💜 Thank you to our Paterson chapter for all your hard work!

Today’s daily affirmation is very simple. Take a deep breathe in, and out. Tell yourself:
“Everything will be okay.”

August 31st is International Overdose Awareness Day. The day leads into September being national recovery month. The purpose of both is to raise awareness of substance abuse while trying to end the stigma of chemical dependence and overdose related deaths. . Join Alumni In Recovery on September 18, Sunday from 11:00 AM to 7:30 PM at @tallmanbeachpoolclub for our annual celebration of #RecoveryDay ! . This year we are honored to have Mr. Greg Williams as our headlining speaker for the event. . In 2015, Greg produced the historic UNITE TO FACE ADDICTION RALLY on the National Mall when tens of thousands of people from around the world gathered to end the silence surrounding addiction. This was the first-time major musicians, politicians, actors, athletes, models, journalists, authors, and advocates joined together in unison, to solve the most urgent health crisis of our time. The event was memorialized in a PBS special, that Greg produced. . #addiction #awareness #recovery #newyork #newjersey #hudsonriver @hudsonriverradio @tallmanfire20 @sufferntallmanfirebuffs @visit_piermont @newbridgemedicalcenter (at Tallman Beach and Pool Club) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cgz0JzAvhFV/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

john mulaney has checked into rehab. here’s what we are going to do:
• support him
• wish him well
• respect his privacy
here’s what we are NOT going to do
• make jokes because addiction is not funny
• speculate anything about his marriage or personal life
• attack those in his personal life (*ahem, leave anna alone. don’t go asking pete davidson for details. none of that)
addiction is a serious disease, and while this news may be troubling, i am so proud of him for seeking help. you can too.

Unpopular opinion apparently, but alcohol and drug dependency or addiction can happen at any age. While it’s common for young adults and teens to experiment with alcohol and drugs, there is no minimum age requirement to be addicted. And acting like it’s not a problem, just because you’re younger than 25, is absolutely detrimental.
If you’re 20 and you drink an absurd amount of alcohol until you black out about once a week, that’s not being a “college partier”, that’s binge drinking. If you regularly get wasted and can’t have fun without being drunk, that’s alcohol dependency. And it’s not a pretty game. No matter your age, do NOT take substance use lightly and think that you’re exempt from addiction just because you’re young. You’re not.
If you show any signs of becoming a little too reliant on alcohol or other drugs to enjoy yourself, quit while you’re ahead. It’s time to start cutting back and taking the issue seriously instead of treating it as no big deal just because of your age. It’s not cute, it’s not “just experimenting”, and it’s not funny either.
Addiction ruins lives, don’t pretend like you’re immune just because of your age. Acting like you’re fine will be your first mistake.

Hey anxiety, I see you. You're trying so hard to protect me, I really appreciate that. Though, right now there is no real danger. You don't have to be on guard. But, if you want to stay for a while that's fine too. Nonetheless, you are safe. We are safe.
