The Israelites found themselves in troubled waters when they approached the River Jordan. The Promised Land was on the other side. This was the last major obstacle that stood in their way of reaching their destination. It was during the flood season. The waters of the river were abnormally high. The crossing of the Jordan is a story of trust, faith and patience. Joshua trusted that God would take His people across the waters. Sure enough, the waters parted when the priests carrying the Ark of the covenant stepped on it, just as the Red sea had parted.
The Ark of the Covenant was symbolic of the presence of God. The Israelites believed that God was with them as they travelled.
When we experience troubled waters we get anxious. We want God to come through now. We want the pain, the suffering, the confusion to go away as soon as possible. We want to get to the other side immediately.
Crossing troubled waters requires trust and patience. And it also requires faith. Faith in Jesus, who assures us that He will be with us. Faith in the One who promises that the troubled waters would never overwhelm or drown us, and that He would give us a peace that surpasses all understanding.
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1

If the Witch knew the true meaning of sacrifice, she might have interpreted the deep magic differently. That when a willing victim who has committed no treachery, is killed in a traitor's stead, the stone table will crack, and even death itself would turn backwards.
THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE 2005, dir. Andrew Adamson

He will once again fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of Joy. Job 8:21
Maybe, it’s been ages since you laughed out loud. The pressures and worries of the world have pinned you down and you are not able to rise up. It feels as if the floods of despair have overwhelmed you.
Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Saviour and my God. Psalm 42:5
Jesus understands your pain and sorrows.
Maybe, the enemy is whispering in your ears, “There is no hope for you! You are never going to see anything good in your life.” Don’t listen to him, he is a liar!
Times of refreshing will come. God will yet again fill your mouth with laughter. Psalm 118:15 says, “There are shouts of rejoicing and victory in the tents of the righteous.”  Yes, and on that day you will declare, “The Lord’s powerful right hand has done this.”

Why should we read the Bible?
1. Know God's will (Ps 119:105)
2. Grow in faith (Rom 10:17)
3. Receive instruction (2 Tim 3:16)
4. Receive correction (2 Tim 3:16)
5. Find comfort (Rom 15:4)
6. Find encouragement (Rom 15:4)
7. Share it with others (1 Pet 3:15)
8. Equip ourselves (2 Tim 3:16–17)
9. Overcome temptation (Ps. 119:11)

The LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
Psalm 121:8
Psalm 121 is famously called the traveller's Psalm. Just reading the above verse gives us so much assurance. From the moment we step out of our homes, to the time we come back home and all the places in between, the Lord promises to watch over us, not just today, but forever more.
If we understand the depth of this verse, it will revolutionise the way we live. Every moment of every day, Jesus watches over us- in our workplaces, schools... and during our trips, His eyes are upon us.
Throughout all the activities of the day, the believer could be confident of the Lord's presence and protection.

For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out My Spirit on your offspring, and My blessing on your descendants.
Isaiah 44:3
God says that He will pour out His Spirit and His blessing upon our offspring. I say yes and amen to this promise and pray that His Spirit and His blessings will be poured out not only on my children but many more generations to come!
