I love both Steven and Rose because they have such messy and complicated journeys and feelings about who they want to be outside of Pink Diamond. Rose permanently altered her form not once, but twice and even then, Steven couldn't run away from the Legacy of Pink Diamond (and was thrust the additional weight of Rose Quartz). Rose wanted change and Steven wanted answers and neither were achievable until the idea of Pink Diamond was confronted. Pink Diamond as a flawed person who hurt people. Pink Diamond as another victim to the cycle of misery perpetuated on homeworld. Pink Diamond as the Ideal and as a Prison. Rose wanted to bury her and the mistakes that came with being her and how could she have known that Pink Diamond would rise from the grave to haunt her son? She just wanted to be loved as Steven the wat she never felt loved as Pink Diamond. Ouuughhh I wanna shake em like piñatas
