Genshin vs. Tower of Fantasy - Preliminary Thoughts

I've been on ToF for two days now, and I'm also a Genshin player since its early days. I play mostly on mobile; I have not yet been able to play ToF on PC since it came out on a weekday.  Some thoughts.

1. I have always been of the opinion that the ability to customize the main character's appearance and clothes was the number one thing that I wanted and Genshin did not have. So I was anticipating ToF a great deal. The character customization did not disappoint;  I was able to make a creepy but cute unsmiling cybernetic shota with one human eye and one very inhuman eye. Oh and hair that shades from crimson through purple to blue. He's unique and 100% me. The PC clothes are all good looking and easily customizable.  

2. The servers are bad.  Bad that I have to make sure that I'm on the same server as people from /r/GenshinGays I want to play with, bad that I have to reroll and start from the beginning on each server I join, and really really bad that I need to wait for 30 minutes before I can start playing because the server is overcrowded (the hourlong estimates are never actually true, but the actual waits are still not really acceptable long term).  Here ToF differentiated themselves from Genshin by going MMO with servers, when copying Genshin (single player worlds, with interaction taking place by jumping into one person's world) would have actually made for a much better experience. Mind you, I was not a day one player of Genshin, I started a month after launch.  So jank may have been ironed out before I started.

3. Exploration and combat really feel like Tencent looked at Genshin Impact, copied the UI, then said "how can we change this enough so that we don't infringe on MiHoYo's copyright?"  This is actually fine to me as a consumer; Genshin combat is fun, and the differences only make things more interesting.  Swimming as a male is much less frustrating in ToF then in Genshin.  That's a little thing, but it's noticeable. OTOH time gating chests is 😡🤬😡.

4. NPCs look much better in TOF than in Genshin, while gacha PCs look a little bit worse - ToF's Diluc clone is clearly inferior to the real thing.   The overall environment is essentially just as good looking in both games IMHO.  Of course, background NPCs will need to share a common model, but even very important NPCs in Genshin share the same generic models as the vendors and people walking around.  In ToF plot-important NPCs look as good as the PCs.  And even the more generic ToF NPCs are more interesting then Genshin's IMHO.  

5. On the other had the English voice acting in ToF is atrocious and often does not match the subtitles. I'm considering switching to JP voices, which I generally **never** do when English is an option.

6. The ratio of waifus to husbandos is much worse in ToF than in Genshin Impact.  But that matters a lot less when the waifus are just skins, and you can use their weapon without using them or looking at them.  90% of the time I will probably use my own PC, not the gacha skin, even when the weapon comes with a husbando.  

7. I haven’t gotten far enough in ToF to experience PVP or manditory co-op, so I can’t really speak to how those aspects make the game more or less fun for me.

All in all I am still undecided about whether I want to go over to ToF full time, drop ToF when Sumeru releases in Genshin, or try to keep playing both games.

Explanation

First Main: Chongyun and Aether are together in this one because which was my first main depends on your definition of main. Chongyun was my first main DPS, in a shatter comp with Xingqiu. I got them both during the prolouge. But Aether has been a part of the great majority of my teams, though always as a support not my main DPS. And my traveler never got the amount of effort I put into my main DPS of the day.

Favorite Main: Itto is love, and he's here with Gorou, who is also love and makes Itto stronger.

Current Main: I am using Heizou as my main DPS during dailies and farming to make him stronger and increase his companionship level. Also, I got Lost Prayer on the standard banner so having a DPS catylist is a good idea.

Future Main: Itto holding Klee - I am still using Itto as my main DPS for story content and as one of my main DPSes in the Abyss. And I will continue to do so fort the foreseeable future. But Klee is cute and funny and would get along well with Itto. If I get her using my rolls from free gems plus blessings and the Battle Pass great, but I don't intend to whale for her. But having her on one side of the Abyss and Itto on the other would be fun.

Strongest Main: I was an Xiao main from his release until 2.0. I've more or less gotten bored with him now, sorry. But right now he sill has had more effort put into him than my Itto, I think. No constellations, while Itto is at C2, but Xiao has a 5* weapon and has had his talents crowned. He would need a set of the new artifact set to bring him up to current meta, and I borrowed his VV pieces for Heizou, though.

Weakest Main: Heizou, who is only at level 70 still. He's very much a work in progress at this point.

I am creating the content I want to see. In particular, here is my first fic in the Genshin fandom, and also my first fic in decades. And it's a foot fetish threesome pwp ☺️. I did try to show that this is a long term relationship, three dads who do more than just have sex. I would call this domestic smut.

Qiqi appears and gets handed over to a babysitter (Kuki Shinobu) so that her dads can have grown up fun in their hot spring. There is no lolicon in this fic!!!

The betaing on this fic was light, so constructive criticism is welcome.

I just got done with Abyss 12 using an off meta team and off meta artifacts on Itto. Mostly to prove that I could use the character combination I found most fun in any content that I wanted. It was a no star clear, but I've been away from Genshin for a while. And better artis on Itto and leveling the supports artis will get my DPS up, without changing team composition.

I sometimes create what I call semi-OCs. These are characters that are not 100% original, but they are based on mobs. Their individual names and personalities are all created by me from a brief in game appearance. Right now I am fleshing out Shadrach, Master of the Royal Kennels of Khaenri'ah, AKA the Crackling Axe Mitachurchrl you fight in the Slumbering Court domain. Thoughts so far:

1. He was a career palace domestic in his 40s, with black hair that had started graying at the temples. Brown eyes. He was not particularly handsome or particularly ugly, but he was always quite tall and strong, nearly as large as a human as he is as a mitachurl.

2. He came from a working class background that was never starving or homeless but allowed few luxuries. He saw entering the palace domestic service

3. He was 100% gay and had had an off and on thing with Danieslef for years. They moved in togeather just a two weeks before the beginning of the war against Celestia.

4. He loved animals in general and dogs in particular. When one of his rifthounds is hurt or killed he cries even now.
