Did you know that May fourth was the day Alice was in Wonderland?
In the book, Alice mentions that she hopes that the March Hare wouldn’t be as mad since it was May, and then later, when the Hatter asks her what day of the month it is, Alice tells him it’s the fourth.
May fourth also happens to be Alice Pleasance Liddell’s birthday, who was the inspiration for the Alice books!
So, forget Star Wars day, May fourth belongs to Carrollians!

Inspired by 7 year-old Alice Pleasance Liddell, Lewis Carroll wrote the tale of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
Published in 1865, "Alice" is a publishing sensation to this day.

@pureuncloudedbrow while I’m sure they are, and it’s on my wishlist, that’s not what I meant. I took pictures of these photographs from the specific book mentioned. I was giving that book credit because that was the specific book I gathered the information and photos from. I wasn’t meaning that that book was the only place to find those photos.
When I give credit at the end of my photograph posts, it’s because I have directly taken from the books mentioned. Not because you can’t find them elsewhere. Carroll’s works are all open source at this point, so you can find them in many places.
But I agree that Edward Wakeling’s works are some of the best for Carrollian studies! They’re just so expensive because of that. 😭 Even used!

Honestly it baffles me when the Cheshire cat gets made into a villain when he's like the nicest to Alice in the first book, while on the other hand portray the mad hatter as "Alice's best friend ☺️💕" when he's an ass to her for most of their meetings
YES EXACTLY. I am going to pull out sources for the amount of BS interpretations make up
The compilation of Alice and Hatter’s beef
The table was a large one, but the three were all crowded together at one corner of it: “No room! No room!” they cried out when they saw Alice coming. “There’s plenty of room!” said Alice indignantly, and she sat down in a large arm-chair at one end of the table.
“Your hair wants cutting,” said the Hatter. He had been looking at Alice for some time with great curiosity, and this was his first speech. “You should learn not to make personal remarks,” Alice said with some severity; “it’s very rude.”
Alice had been looking over his shoulder with some curiosity. “What a funny watch!” she remarked. “It tells the day of the month, and doesn’t tell what o’clock it is!” “Why should it?” muttered the Hatter. “Does your watch tell you what year it is?” “Of course not,” Alice replied very readily: “but that’s because it stays the same year for such a long time together.” “Which is just the case with mine,” said the Hatter.
“Take some more tea,” the March Hare said to Alice, very earnestly. “I’ve had nothing yet,” Alice replied in an offended tone, “so I can’t take more.” “You mean you can’t take less,” said the Hatter: “it’s very easy to take more than nothing.” “Nobody asked your opinion,” said Alice. “Who’s making personal remarks now?” the Hatter asked triumphantly.
“Really, now you ask me,” said Alice, very much confused, “I don’t think—” “Then you shouldn’t talk,” said the Hatter.
THERE. THATS THE COMP OF HATTER AND ALICES BEEF FROM THE FIRST BOOK. These two are not friends they were tolerating eachother at best until the last bit from Hatter that offended Alice so much that she left
And Alice literally refers to the Cheshire Cat as a friend
“Who are you talking to?” said the King, going up to Alice, and looking at the Cat’s head with great curiosity. “It’s a friend of mine—a Cheshire Cat,” said Alice: “allow me to introduce it.”
By the time she had caught the flamingo and brought it back, the fight was over, and both the hedgehogs were out of sight: “but it doesn’t matter much,” thought Alice, “as all the arches are gone from this side of the ground.” So she tucked it away under her arm, that it might not escape again, and went back for a little more conversation with her friend.

I love Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland but I loathe how edgy subcultures have turned it into some one dimensional thing associated with psychedelics and other drugs.

Hi! Sorry if I’m bothering you (I’m new here dealing with tumblr) but I just loved all your content, cause of course I’m a huge fan of Alice in wonderland. Could you tell me why do you love wonderland (and all the things related to it) as well?
You’re not bothering me (and thank you so much!!), but I don’t really know how to answer that?
I just.... love Alice.
I know I’ve loved Wonderland and the Looking-Glass World and all its wacky creatures since before I can remember. I love the books and how much is hidden within them. I love learning more and more about what seems to be a simple weird fairytale. I love seeing art, literature, and film inspired by Carroll’s world.
It’s all just so interesting to me. I actually collect books in relation to Alice and Lewis Carroll. I especially love getting editions of Alice with different artists. I currently have almost 40 books in relation to Alice and Carroll!
Sorry if that’s not the answer you were looking for!

What Would Alice Do?
Life is Not a Competition
“Just so!” cried the Red Queen. “Five times as warm, and five times as cold - just as I’m five times as rich as you are, and five times as clever!” Alice sighed and gave it up. ***** Quote gathered from “What Would Alice Do?”
