About a week ago, I got an email from this company and I was asked if I would like to try + promote their weight loss tea. I politely declined by not replying to their emails after being told they don’t offer compensation for promotional work. I don’t care for these “miracle” weight loss teas so I wasn’t interested in promoting something I don’t believe in. This morning I receive this email from them after not accepting to promote their product. I am honestly so taken back that a company would say something as blatantly awful as this. I call this harassment. @flattummytea, I want to make sure you’re aware that your PR is sending these disgusting emails trying to shame and harass me about my size? Your company is sending out such a terrible message to women and young girls by doing this. This honestly really disturbed me and I was hesitant to speak up about this at first but this is 100% not ok. I know many of you are asked to do promotional work so please make sure you’re only doing business or collaborating with companies who respect you and value your platform and time.

SIGNAL BOOST
I wrote an article for Fusion about the racism I encountered while at my Kentucky high school. I never implied that everyone was racist. In fact, I have some great friends and memories from the school. Turns out that Black people are strong enough to find the good in hostile environments and not let ignorance dictate every day of their lives. Still, that doesn’t negate the fact that Confederate flags, racist vitriol, and hateful ideologies were often supported and spewed by students and faculty members alike. It’s a place so fraught with racial tension that merely mentioning 3 incidents of racism I encountered in my 3 years at the school (imagine if I had written about all the times I got called the n-word on the bus) a decade ago has half the area up in arms about how I must be lying and how racism doesn’t exist anymore.
Cue Chelsea.
After seeing a thread of more of the same angry, unfounded insults, she spoke up and out. She bravely posted her own story, and a picture of her natural hair, enough to silence the girls who so proudly claim they aren’t bigots, but immediately attack my natural hair, call me a liar, and try to deny an experience that every POC who went to the school has echoed. I’m so blown away by Chelsea’s bravery. This is what changes when you speak out. This is how we can change the world. Don’t be scared. Tell your stories. And remember, if you want to be written about fondly, maybe you should behave better.
xx

I’m tired of seeing debate on this.  Prostitutes and sex workers of other kinds sell a service.  If you purchase that service, you are a customer.  If you, without consent, abuse their rights as a human, that is not tantamount to theft.  It’s a human rights abuse.  If you punch a boxer, you aren’t stealing their time as a professional to see their reaction.  You are assaulting them, and the law will recognize this and punish you accordingly.  Rape of prostitutes, however, is a much more serious and common abuse, and it is significantly less punished by law enforcement and societally regarded as a non-issue.  I’m a martial artist.  Compared to the average person, I am much more mentally prepared for the possibility of a physical attack.  It is the milieu I immerse myself in.  That doesn’t mean I want to be attacked, or that it would be ok to attack me, and no one would ever make that logical leap.  Prostitutes, while also more mentally prepared for the very real possibility they may be raped, are no more deserving of rape than I am of being assaulted.  A non-consensual assault against a person, regardless of profession or mental preparation for attack, is clearly still a human rights abuse and the equivalent of assault, not theft. Stop debating this shit.
