Whatever you now find weird, ugly, uncomfortable and nasty about a new medium will surely become its signature. CD distortion, the jitteriness of digital video, the crap sound of 8-bit - all of these will be cherished and emulated as soon as they can be avoided. It’s the sound of failure: so much modern art is the sound of things going out of control, of a medium pushing to its limits and breaking apart. The distorted guitar sound is the sound of something too loud for the medium supposed to carry it. The blues singer with the cracked voice is the sound of an emotional cry too powerful for the throat that releases it. The excitement of grainy film, of bleached-out black and white, is the excitement of witnessing events too momentous for the medium assigned to record them.
My sister got me this Eno Hammock for my birthday last year. When I was living in Greenville, there was a soccer recreation area with a few trees. That was the only “park” or outdoor space near my apartment within a 20 minute radius. So I would string up and read there.
This weekend it was warm enough to unpack it. Now, my apartment is 4 minutes from the pier, where I can string up and read. I’ll take this neighborhood over the other any day.

In 1976 Brian Eno went to hang out and jam with the members of Harmonia for 11 days in Forst before fucking off to join Bowie in Berlin, The tapes were subsequently lost. (How you lose the tapes you made with Brian Eno, even if you thought the sessions were terrible I don’t know)
Well anyway sometime in the 90′s the tapes were discovered and released in 1997.
It is everything you expect with Harmonia being great and the Eno influence readily apparent.
