Look, English isn't my first language and so many people are saying this lyric is crazy and atp I'm too afraid to ask what it means but if you want to explain it to me, I'd be very greatful

of course! so there's the phrase 'the measure of a person (in this case specifically a man)', it's pretty common and it basically represents their value, how good of a person they are. what's the measure of this man? how good of a man is he? so by her saying he didn't even measure up to any measure of a man is basically saying he wasn't a good man, his value was so small it was immeasurable.

i always interpreted the "I founded the club she's heard great things about" as the club being her songs. So she wrote these songs about him and the person who dates him next knows the stuff about him only because of her songs

tbh i took this song to be about the 2016 mess? idk if this is a popular opinion or not but the line 'that's when i received the call' reminds me of the kanye call. so her telling everyone she never approved of the line, aka the truth, and then no one believing her and turning on her to then years later be proven correct, and she spent so long trying to prove he lied etc etc

i like i can do it with a broken heart and i think it’ll end up on at least light rotation. however there are some weird choices.

i’m so depressed i act like it’s my birthday feels odd. i don’t wanna armchair diagnose taylor because i don’t know her but i do think that regardless of whether or not she is depressed it still feels like a clunky word choice

and then there’s her just being out of touch. i don’t want to minimalize taylor’s feelings and im sure its enormously difficult in a way you and i and normal people will never understand to put on a performance in front of thousands of screaming fans when all you want to do is cry. at the same time, taylor will never understand that millions of people also go to work with a broken heart, and then go home to tiny apartments and instant ramen and figuring out how to make $10 last until their next paycheck. i don’t think she’s ungrateful but it comes across as ungrateful and definitely tone deaf

yeah completely agree. clunky word choices seem to be a common thing she does with this album and it doesn't work in. a lot of songs, some it does but others it just feels out of place.

and like you said, im sure it is hard to do what she does when she's going through so much but also.... what she did was only on weekends for a couple of hours while being paid unimaginable amounts of money for a lot of people... so to release the song when there are so many people who are also putting on brave faces but instead working 40+ hours a week and being paid barely minimum wage it's like...... okay..... weird point to make
