I think you can sum up helluva boss’s failure to write female characters by the fact we have literally never seen Octavia and Stella directly interact with one another and have literally no idea what their relationship is like but have two episodes dedicated to telling us that stolas isn’t a bad father while he prioritises blitzo over Octavia.

There needs to be a study about fandoms who are quickly to defend flawed media, and they will do it at ALL costs. Shows like RWBY and Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss that have very clear flaws and yet fans get VERY personally offended when someone criticizes them. I mean any media has hardcore fans that will defend it with their lives but there are some special cases that stand out from the rest.

Stolas’s arc being the main narrative arc of Helluva boss is such an insane choice. Like let’s say the show has to end here and now so the writers are given a feature length movie deal to end the show with. What is this movie going to be about? What would the climax be? Would Stolas’s whole deal be a side plot to a whole new main villain we’ve never seen before? It can’t be Stella, and Crimson has no grand show-ending plot or that much importance. Striker is a henchman for bigger villains so it can’t be him. Like the ending of this hyper violent murder demon gun action series can’t be “then the bird got a divorce and got a boyfriend but also fixed things with his daughter.” but there’s no way to have a big final fight that’s relevant to the actual main arc of this show. Why is this of all things the central narrative?

I need to get it out of my chest so here's some Striker theories/speculations fandom has come up with that I heavily dislike and why.

Striker has some royalty blood from one parent or both.

Oh God that would suck so much if it became canon cause it absolutely defeats the purpose of his character so far, that of being a lower class imp hating royals with valid reasons even if his actions are violent and sadistic.

As he is he has such an interesting antagonistic role in the story and offers a bunch of good lines directly opposing and questioning the heroes values, choices and morality.

His mere presence and open bashing of the upper class is just good social commentary! If his hatred stems from a combination of his narcissistic nature and bitterness that being born an imp (even mixed or hybrid) robs him from ascending further into the social ladder or even if he survived a traumatic encounter with a royal as its implied and it's fuelled by anger or a combo of all those things all are good for telling a compelling story! All can be done in very interesting ways!

But making him yet another character tied closer to royalty than just being a random person that got screwed over is honestly an underwhelming concept.

Getting screwed over for no good or justified reason should be common with Hell's racist and classist system as its been presented so far and we should get confirmation of that instead of having Striker added to the trend of each of the main characters having special connections with higher ups. It's not only redundant at this point but would make his motivation and social commentary that much weaker.

I swear if it just becomes another daddy or mommy issue imma rage quit so fast!

Striker is half shark demon

His sound design is explicitly constantly emulating the noises a rattlesnake makes. Since he's most likely a hybrid and he says to Blitzo how they are "superior to most of our kind" he's definitely part imp. So we got two halves and we got snake demon and imp, so it's basically covered? lol I don't know how this theory became so popular😅

He doesn't even look close to the design of the other sharks

he only looks like Chaz a little bit.

And lots of characters share similar characteristics like that snout.

This one had some merit with the ringed eyes and imma be real I haven't noticed those elsewhere but like even if he had a grandpa shark what purpose would that serve?

Bah I just don't like it. Let the man be a slimy snake! Its more unique and it suits him better!

Striker is asexual cause he got grossed out by sex jokes

To be clear you could totally read him as asexual! But the reason being the damn sex jokes is giving me whiplash. Striker got flustered and frustrated at best cause the timing of each sex joke was inappropriate as all hell and cause everyone did it as he tried to be intimidating and threaten/kill them. If anything they were bruises to his ego not any indication to his libido.

But like... In all seriousness asexual confirmation deserves more than a reaction to sex jokes.

Hellaverse does it better with Alastor. In his case it does tie in with his sexuality.

Same goes with all the theories that he's homophobic too.

He did the sexy villain thing trying to seduce Blitzo like so explicitly and smiled when Blitzo called it hot then! What are you talking about?

Different situation, more receptive to sexual undertones and instigating them too. That's what I'm trying to say!

And again. Asexual reading can apply. But it can't be just the sex jokes alright?!😭

Striker is related to Crimson and Moxxie.

Oh this one is the worst one and absolutely gives me a heart attack and thank goodness for the crew's soft confirmation that they aren't via strixxie fanart cause no joke I'd cry since its my favourite ship!

It's just similar horns!!! Striker was designed as a mix between Moxxie and Blitzo and that's the only reason why!

Striker also had sexual tension with Blitzo on screen are you gonna tell me they are related too cause he was designed with half of him in mind?

So, I'm looking at the trailer and hear Stolas say something like this . . .

"This transaction between us . . . i-it's not right anymore. I just want someone to care for."

I'm gonna assume he's talking about the exchange of the grimoire for sex with Blitzo. The deal that HE made in the first place????

Okay, first off- What do you mean, it's not right anymore?? NOT ONCE has it EVER been right! Making someone satisfy your pleasures in exchange for giving them something that's impossible to have and you never intended on giving them in the first place unless it benefits you somehow. That is called EXPLOITATION! Children . . . exploiting someone is NEVER a good thing! No matter how badly you want something to happen, it's never good to make someone do something against their will, and Stolas NEVER considered this! And even if he did, I doubt he would've cared!

Why is he suddenly caring now?

Because this is just another way for Viv to throw another Stolas pity party and she needs some kind of tension between Stolas and Blitzo so that their relationship can feel earned later. I think I have a pretty good feeling on what they're gonna make season two about.

This is gonna turn back into the "Stolitzo show" where we focus on the supposed "romance" between Stolas and Blitzo. How are they gonna go about it? Well, I think what's gonna go down is, instead of Stolas being in the wrong for how he treats Blitzo, they're gonna make the latter the bad guy for how he "treats" Stolas. Because blah blah blah, Blitzo doesn't love Stolas back, blah blah he's not considerate of Stolas's feelings for him, blah blah he's being mean, blah blah, he needs to give Stolas a chance. And at the end of the day, Blitzo is gonna feel all sorry and realize he loves Stolas, he apologizes to Stolas, the two are endgame and they live happily ever after! I'm calling it right now! With the way Stolas said what he said above, he's gonna make it seem like he's trying to reason with Blitzo saying the deal for the book is a bad idea as if HE wasn't the one that called Blitzo that one night and made that deal.

Do Viv or the writers ever THINK before writing these down??

To be honest, this is more of me being a musical theatre nerd and kid throughout most of my life. But something I want to say is that Hazbin Hotel was half of the musical Vivziepop and her stans want you to believe, then the show to me wasted the perfect opportunity for a opening number. The worst part to me is that Vivziepop also had the perfect (or atleast really great) reference to do it.

Like, imagine after Charlie tells the story of Adam and Lilith, how Lucifer fell (basically the whole beginning storybook narration.) We cut to a shot where the exorcists are flying away from Hell after another extermination and it pans down to the Pride Ring, which is very much destroyed with some buildings even in flames. Then a different opening number song could start playing as we’re introduced to the Pride Ring and its inhabitants.

If this opening sounds somewhat familiar, then you’ll likely know what the reference I’m talking about is. It’s The Nightmare Before Christmas’s This is Halloween

To people who haven’t seen the film, I’ll give a short rundown on its opening number. Before TNBC opening number begins, we are shown a scene of the different holiday doors before the shot pans into the Halloween door. Cue the opening number, and we are introduced to the background Halloween Town residents and some important characters (Sally, Oogie Boogie, etc)

If Hazbin Hotel took a similar approach to its opening number, it would honestly help most of the problems. We would be introduced to Hell (or at least the Pride Ring) smoothly, side characters who would have major roles later would already be shown to us, we would get a better look at exterminations, essentially most of the character problems would’ve been fixed (or at least toned down)

Also, while I don’t really care about any of the songs, they aren’t exactly the type of musical songs I like/aren’t memorable to me personally. I personally hate how they come out of nowhere. In the first episode, there is literally no transition to Charlie’s song in the slightest. No instrumental build up, nothing. Because no, characters in musicals don’t start singing out of nowhere.

Helluva would be a lot more tolerable if Blitzø and I.M.P. were treated like the Eds in EEnE were.

And Stolas was treated like The Kankers.

Cherri Bomb Redesign (Bonus!)

Surprise!! It’s her!

I refuse to believe Cherri doesn’t have bunch of scars or injuries from using explosives and fire all the fucking time. There is no goddamn way. Also shes like running and jumping all over the place constantly she’d definitely have a running blade like 90% of the time. (Don’t walk on running blades you will probably trip) Her pant leg is ripped to look cool and also just for easy access to her leg.

I wanted this to be kind of sloppy with the colours; show how a lot of sinners dont have just a select few sins and note how often people participate in almost all of them. Ik it may not be the most pleasing colour palette to look at but that’s kind of the intention. Jumbled colours and asymmetry is really just Cherri’s thing in my head. I wanted it to look like she made or thrifted her clothes as well or like just stole them.

The bomb and cherry in her hair are supposed to kind of look like those hair bobble things that fucking HURT when you snapped them but they were cute so I feel like utilising hair bobbles is something I need to do much more

You could kill a man with these I swear to god.

Her tattoos and stuff are just basic cherries and vines and the little bomb and the bisexual symbol thing. Also bellybutton piercing is some I’ve only ever done once on an OC I have named Angela/Angie which is… kind of ironic?

You even get a little redraw for funsies! This was done for my friend helping me with my rewrite ideas so this is like the least I can do as repayment. You can see heaven up in the corner too :3

I don’t actually have a bunch to say about Cherri’s redesign, I want her to just be this “Oh wow! Thats definitely an outfit!” kind of design cause I love those. Oh and she definitely did the raccoon tail masking bits with craft tape.

I told my friend the dumbass stick figure on her arm is put there because I was thinking of her asking Angel to draw on her and she’d get it tattooed and he cannot draw at all so he just did a stick figure and was like “this is so cool.” and it was not cool at all/j

I wouldve added more stickers to her running blade and stuff but her colour palette is already VERY full so this is the price to pay. Still not sure if I’ll continue doing these but we shall see!! The next design post is likely going to be the lineup and some side by side comparison things ;P 📺

Hey @spotlightlowlife i remember for your post from ed ed Eddy, comparison to Viv shows I remember in the comments what I replied about comparison to. Invader Zim to her show you said that was on the list I didn't look back at the comments to double check. I was right but away I couldn't believe what this what they said like how dare where's the heavy influence of Invader Zim Viv their some things I can and can't remember but I do remember hearing. That she was influenced by the show but you can't even tell her show takes place in hell but it's not as dark as Invader Zim is none. SO DON'T COMPARE HER SHITTY SHOW TO INVADER ZIM.

That show is great she did a terrible job to show that. Also I find it weird that she never brings Invader Zim cause we all know she brings up Bojack horseman as a comparison to her show. I never watched Bojack horseman but for what I heard their is none. But I have seen Invader Zim and don't disrespect that show. Looking forward to seeing what everyone has to say about this I wish that person made a thread post explaining it cause I can't tell or any comparison.

Holy fucking SHIT can I get one episode, can I just fucking BREATHE and see other characters without seeing this twink on my screen. We just got Verosika back. Why is Stolas getting more songs yet again when Verosika rightfully deserves it. She honestly should've taken the lead. And I feel like I already know what Stolas is going to sing about in this scene like please shut the actual fuck up nobody cares that your blitzy doesn't love you.

Let me just wait and see how this executes before I judge further more. I get bad vibes from this trailer alone.

I don't know. Has it ever crossed anybody's minds that Octavia has a different perspective on Stella? Maybe Octavia had a more genuine relationship with Stella? Maybe she feels cared for. Maybe she feels like Stella actually gives a fucking damn about her. Maybe she actually feels LOVED by her own mother than a fucking bird twink who constantly thinks about lower class cock over his own daughter. Think about that. Maybe Octavia is pissed about Stolas not loving Stella, is because Stella actually treated her with CARE. And I'm not trying to defend the domestic violence thing. Stolas shouldn't be with that feral women and Stella's way of dealing with him is insane. But at the same time, she had valid reasons to hate his guts. Octavia just wants a normal family and is scared that her father loves Blitz more than her. So whenever he's rambling about Blitz, Octavia goes to Stella instead. For comfort.

anyway. why does helluva boss insist again and again that stolitz (you know, the one with the bird and the guy the bird owned for a time) this is a mutual affection, that this relationship is worth the focus, and hardship these two get into?

realistically like. i think after a pity fling with a royal who. owned him at one point blitzo wouldnt want to be anywhere near stolas. for good reason. and stolas never ever. Ever gives him a reason to disagree. the only feelings floating around are physical lust.

if we think about this realistically the best we can do with what the story gives us is that stolas is desperately lonely and just needs somebody, anybody, and will use blitzo to make that happen, because lets be real. using someone for sex demonstrates a sheer lack of respect for the person. We can't act like theyre consentual fuckbuddies, Blitzo's job depends on this. Blitzo doesnt have any reason to enjoy being around him other than i guess the ass is good or something. (???)

but the story acts as if they're in love when they arent. these people do not know eachother. like at all. (what is there to know tbh)

it acts like blitzo has these deep unknown feelings for this man who continually takes advantage of him. Here's the thingthat helluva boss misunderstands, a toxic person is not just... a mean person.

Giving stolas so much grace here, at the least he is a damaged person, but that does not give him an excuse to treat anyone like this. And he will have to do a lot of work to make up for that damage.

Just severing the deal is the bare minimum. He hasn't even apologized.
