A general rule of thumb for if you cannot take care of a Pokemon:
If you captured it from the wild, release it. If you purchased it or received it, rehome it.
When you take in a Pokemon, you must try to give it the best life you can. But there is no shame if you have given it your best effort, and you cannot provide the home the Pokemon needs. But once you understand that you cannot keep a Pokemon, you must decide what to do with it.
A Pokemon captured from the wild will be able to be returned easily. Released Pokemon will generally be returned to a suitable environment for them if released through the PC Storage System, and it should have minimal problems readjusting to life in the wild.
A Pokemon raised in captivity from birth, however, would likely not be able to thrive in the wild. They would not know how to find food, or how to hide from predators. Regrettably, releasing a Pokemon raised in captivity into the wild is almost the same as a death sentence.
Similarly, Pokemon captured from the wild will not do well in shelters. They have limited space, they remain in one place. A Pokemon captured from the wild and used for battling would find itself lacking anything to do, and would likely begin to lash out.
There is no shame in giving your best effort, and deciding you still could not care for a Pokemon as it deserves. But please think of your Pokemon's history, and its future, when you make your decision of what to do next.

sooo midterms are almost finished (thank arceus) but, i have this friend in the university's battling club with an upcoming tournament.
i was planning on going to watch, simply because i enjoy a good battle and they're great for seeing the things ive been studying in action.
however, my friend asked if he could practice battle against me. ive never been much of a battler. sure, i did a few with other kids or wild bidoof as a kid but that was ages ago. im just not sure if patch and five are up for it...

This semester I'm taking a class on Pokémon native to Unova! I've never been to Unova, although I hear it's quite nice!
Could some Unovans (or anyone really) share some fun facts about Unovan Pokémon? I'd love to know some things my professor may never mention!

fire and bug types are the best types. this is why volcarona and centiskorch are the best pokemon.
